THE SUN
PRISONERS
By RAHUL MISHRA
village respected him. Wujo, Evan and Moby became friends. The children were
very happy in leading such a lavish life, eating raspberries, running behind
butterflies, throwing stones at monkeys, running at the banks of Saka river proved
to be great fun for them.
It was a dark night in the Sakai, the people were having their dinner. Carl
said Joseph tomorrow lets wander in the deep forest and start our mission. When
Evan asked about the mission uncle Paul told the gang that it was last Sunday when
Joseph contacted him and informed that his men had got signs of tresures of the lost
civilizations of the Incas. If we get the treasure then our village will not be poor. I
will distribute among villagers. Said Joseph. Where were the signs found?asked
Evan. It was to the south of Sakai. In the forest region. The main treasure lies
somewhere near the Olapo mountain, from where the Saka river seems to
originates.said Poldo. Poldo was a loyal old servant of Joseph. He also told that no
one had ever gone there as it was surrounded by dense forest where many
dangerous wild animals lived. the whole village now depends on the success of our
mission. I have a motorboat. We will set off tomorrow. Ladies will remain here. You
three can come with us. We are then seven. said Evans father. The children whole
night could not sleep well, sometimes they dreamed of lion rushing behind them,
sometimes they saw different kinds of animals some tall, some short, some long,
some poisonous, and they never forget to see themselves loaded with gold and
precious gems. Next day they set out for their treasure hunt. Evan wore his trekking
shoes which he had wrapped in the newspaper at his home. He put the toffees and
raspberries in a piece of same newspaper and kept them in his pocket. Whole village
was there to see them off. Carl, Joseph, Poldo, Paul, Evan, Wujo and Moby boarded
the boat. They took two barrels of petrol with them,as they had to move opposite to
the currents of the river. They took eatables lasting for about one week. But the
thing which thrilled children was the jungle rifle given to each of them.
The boat moved against river along wild banks where they
saw many furious animals drinking water. It was evening setting on when the boat
shook.
Evan heard shots of bullets. He sprang out see that the boat was surrounded by
huge crocodiles which were enough to overturn the boat. And Carl was busy
controlling the wheel of the ship-boat. After a hefty encounter with the crocos the
treasure-hunters were clear that the voyage was no fun. At night the dinner was
served and before eating the passengers thanked and prayed to God. The next
morning was dull, there were dense bushes all around, with the huge trees behind
them. It was about mid noon when a huge eagle visited their deck. Joseph was
astonished as the bird had a red ribbon wrapped around its neck. it is tamed. You
see, its tamed. He cried. It took Evan less than two seconds to reach the deck. But
before one could act a swarm of alike tamed eagles reached the spot. The next
moment an arrow hit the deck where Moby was standing. OH! MY GOD THE
TRIBALS. WHERE THE HELL THEY CAME. THEY WERE ALL LOST AND
DESTROYED ABOUT THOUSAND YEARS AGO! cried Joseph. Evan saw a
group of old rafts full of wild looking tribal. They were speaking a strange tone but
Evan was sure that they seemed annoyed, astonished and angry. No guns, please no
firing, they are the guards of the treasures. We can talk to them. shouted Poldo as
he saw Carl aiming at the tribal. Soon the tribe-men seized the guns and tied the
passengers to bamboo rods and took them to the bank of river. Through the zigzag
passages of forest they reached a cave in between the bushes of raspberries. The
cave opened into a large palace which was whole underground. There were
thousands of tribal inside. They were looking at the prisoners as though they had
never met any stranger. The prisoners on the other hand were surprised to see the
heaps of gold all around. The prisoners were put into a dark room. The tribals were
the followers of the sun.
Next day the prisoners were taken before the king who lived in a huge hall
and heaps of gold surrounding him. Evan thought of presenting the king with
something special. He put his hand in his pocket to find that he was left only with
the paper piece he had kept with toffees, which he had ate last night in the dark
room. In the golden light he saw that the paper had written about solar eclipse
which was to occur in the parts of Africa. An idea flashed into his mind. the eclipse
was going to take place in ten minutes. Soon the trial was over and the prisoners
were taken to an open place where they were to be slayed! Evan told his group just
to shout looking at the sky. He quickly told them about the eclipse. They started
shouting as if they were offering prayers to God. The tribals were confused. They
were astonished to see that the sun had heared their offerings. The solar eclipse was
taking place, which had confused the tribes. The king also came rushing. The tribes
now considered them angles of the sun. The prisoners were now greeted as a special
guest. The chief also gave them bags of gold when the group was returning to the
village. Every one in the village was dumbstruck seeing the gold pieces. And Evan
also had a great time.
