PLANNING DISPOSITION & CONCESSION

SUB-COMMITTEE

April 2, 2015
MTA Chairman Thomas F. Prendergast,
Thank you for your service in moving our great city. As discussions continue surrounding
the 10 year MTA capital budget, we urge you to include a study for a subway shuttle
connection to connect Washington Heights and the East Bronx. The residents of our
communities rely on current bus service between our regions to commute to work, and
the vibrant commercial corridors that economically sustain our local businesses. Though
our regions have long been connected by our bus system, congestion along the 207th
street/Fordham Rd corridors have caused well above average commute times for our
residents.
I urge you to explore the option of creating a shuttle along the 207th St and Fordham
Road corridors including stops at the following locations:
207th St A Station
207th St 1 Station
University Heights MetroNorth Station
Fordham Road 4 Station
Fordham Road B and D
And the Fordham MetroNorth Stop
Fordham Road is our citys third largest commercial corridor in terms of revenue. By
better connecting our communities we can work to ensure a substantial decrease in
commute time increasing both the financial success of our commercial areas and the
efficiency of our transportation network.
As public servants, we must ensure that our Citys transportation network is dependable,
speedy, and efficient. Public transportation is necessary to spur economic growth in our
most vulnerable communities. As you continue to develop your capital priorities, we urge
you to consider a 207th street - Fordham Road corridor subway line. We pledge to work
hand-in-hand with your office to ensure all New York City residents receive the utmost
reliability in transportation services.

Sincerely,

Council member Ydanis Rodriguez District 10, Northern Manhattan
