Hematology and Hemapathologists

In MRCOG Module, Maternal Medicine candidates will encounter Hematology topic which is a
deep study of blood and its disorder. The doctor who specializes in this fields including other
ailments like blood and bone marrow cells are known as Hematologists and Hemapathologists.
The test of Hematology can help to diagnose diseases like anemia, hemophilia, blood clotting
disorders, infection and leukemia.
It should be noted that there is a difference between Hematologist and Hematopathology which
is mentioned below:
A hematologist generally works on investigating and organizing hematologic disease particularly
cancers. Usually a hematologist has completed supplementary years for training in hematology
and is generally a broad certified internist or pediatrician.
On the other hand, a hematopatholgist is a broad certified in anatomical and clinical pathology
and has auxiliary years of experience in hemapathology. You cannot relate hemapathology to just
the study of the disorders in blood and bone marrow, but it range covers organs and tissues that
employ blood cells to do their physiologic functions, like the lymph nodes, the spleen, thymus
and other lymphoid tissue. The hematopathologist center of attention is on the analysis of
circumstances of the hematopoietic and lymphocyte-rich tissues, typically by straight
examination of tissue and blood in the lab.

Some of the Common hematology tests are the following:

hematologists. It involves taking cells from the bone marrow for analysis for numerous types of
ailment.
