We are a group of young men and women, between the age of 18 to 40, whose
mission is to develop leaders who will create positive change in the local and
global community and their own lives through training and networking
opportunities. Our Vision is to be the premier leadership organization for young
leaders and entrepreneurs between 18 to 40 that offers quality projects, balanced
programs, opportunities to network with other organizations to serve the
community to further the ideas of Junior Chamber. Although "Philippine" is part of
our chapter name, we are not solely a group for Filipinos. Rather, we are an
international chapter. Everyone is welcome to join, and we have members from
the United Kingdom, Australia, Dominican Republic, Taiwan, among others. This is
our 45th year of existence, and we invite you to make a difference in your
community, your nation, and your world!
We believe....
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life
That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignity of nations
That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise
That government should be of laws rather than of men
That earth's great treasure lies in human personality
And that service to humanity is the best work of life.
As the outgoing Chapter President, it has been my honor and distinct privilege
to have proudly served you as this organization’s 44th Chapter President of
the Philippine New York Junior Chamber (Jaycees), Inc. during the past year of
2007. The year was definitely filled with many memorable occasions. With the
chapter theme of 2007 as “Driven to Excellence”, which symbolizes the natural
drive of our Jaycee members, I believe that our chapter achieved excellence in
so many ways, not only within the Jaycees community, through the many State
awards won by our members and by our chapter, but to the whole New York
City community-at-large, especially the Filipino-American community, as
evidenced by the numerous successful projects and events that were
sponsored by our Jaycees organization in the past year of 2007.
Now in its 45th year of existence, the incoming 2008 Team of Officers, led by
President Victor De Leon, will look to continue the long, rich history and
tradition of excellence that has been exemplified by the members of our
historic Jaycees chapter. Originally chartered in 1963, our Philippine New York
Jaycees organization immediately made history by becoming the first ethnic-
based local Jaycees chapter in the world. Now that is history-making.
But before signing off, I would like to thank the entire 2007 Team of Officers
and members for their hard work and dedication. And to everyone, Jaycees
and friends of Jaycees, thank you for coming to our Ceremonies this evening.
But most of all, I would like to thank everyone with deep gratitude for
supporting the Philippine New York Jaycees and the Jaycee movement! May
we all continue to be Driven to Excellence!
Gary Abasolo
44th Chapter President (2007)
The Philippine-New York Junior Chamber
2008 Chairman of the Board (COB)
& Immediate Past President (IPP)
2008 NY State Region South Director
The officers of the 2008 Board of Directors, who will be inducted tonight, very likely,
are people that are special and close to you, that you hold dear to your heart; we
may know them as a brother, sister, spouse, colleague, or friend. Yet they, also, are
unique in that they have been inspired to serve, by those who have built and
strengthened the foundation of this organization. By taking on this mantle of
leadership, by applying the skills and information they have learned in molding
themselves into leaders in their own right, they are helping to design a better
tomorrow for generations to come.
To all of you, our beloved guests, we appreciate you spending time with us, The
Philippine-New York Junior Chamber, to celebrate an annual rite and long-standing
tradition! Thank you for supporting the Chapter; we encourage you to continue
doing so by spreading the word, as well as joining us in our various events and
activities--The Philippine Independence Day Parade & Festival; membership-night
socials; individual-development seminars; our 45th Anniversary Gala; and the ING
New York City Marathon(Water Station), to name just a few!

“Leadership Through Integrity”
For many people in the community, the Jaycees represents a group of motivated young people
who have provided strong leadership in community projects. Through the years, we have
contributed to the development of other Jaycee chapters and as well as provide support in the
creation of a young professionals organization, we helped to improve the image of the Filipino
Americans through our assistance in the annual Philippine Independence Day celebration, and
we have become leaders in various community organizations throughout the Tri-State area.
Today, many of our Jaycee alumnus have spread their wings to include providing leadership
and assistance in nation building through programs such as Gawad Kalinga.
The Philippine New York Junior Chamber provides opportunities both locally and globally for the
individual persons to develop themselves. What other leadership organization can boost of an
international presence and still provide the cohesiveness of a small organization? Since joining
the organization in 1992 and witnessing the 30th Anniversary Celebration, I am always amazed
at the enthusiasm, the drive, and camaraderie that Jaycee members possess. The Jaycees of
today are no different. Though times have changed, few things remains the same since that
day that I joined in April 1992…it is the commitment, the desire, hopes and aspiration of our
members that provides each us the reason for being a part of this organization. Whether we
become members for one year or ten years or even sixteen years, we all can contribute to our
chapter’s success and our individual success.
This year as chair for our 45th Anniversary celebration slated in the Fall of 2008, I wish to
extend an invitation to all Jaycee members, past and present, to come back and rekindle
friendships, share stories of your fondest Jaycee experiences and share the rich history that we
have to the newer members. Share with them the lessons of leadership, teamwork, good
planning and appreciation of the efforts given – no matter how small.
To our 2008 Chapter officers, I wish you all well in your leadership journey this year. There will
be many challenges but it is how you overcome these challenges to reach your goal that makes
success all that much sweeter.
To our current and newest members, you have the opportunity to define what you want to do
this year. Let your voice be heard and share your expertise. Seek to learn something new and
propose an idea that has never been done before. Make this year truly special by taking the
time to contribute and participate.
To our guests, thank you for your continued support of the chapter. It is through partnerships,
collaborative efforts and support from our family and friends that allows us to keep motivated to
make our ideas a successful reality.
Mabuhay ang Philippine New York Junior Chamber. Mabuhay tayong lahat.
Yours in Jayceeism,

Mission
The Mission of the Philippine New York Junior Chamber(Jaycees), Inc., as part of
the world’s largest leadership training organization, JCI, is to train and develop
young adults into becoming leaders, entrepreneurs and socially responsible
individuals who will create positive changes in society, affecting both the local
community of the New York City metropolitan area and the global community as a
whole.
Vision
The Philippine-New York Junior Chamber will continue to be a premier leadership
training organization, in which individuals will have an opportunity to acquire the
skills necessary to be leaders by taking action and initiative through a hands-on
approach, and in serving our various communities. Using the network of support
from the various JCI organizations throughout the world, as well as from within the
Chapter itself, these young people will be driven and motivated to continue the
history and legacy of excellence of the Jaycee movement and, subsequently,
inspire others to become leaders in their own right.
Victor de Leon was born on July 29, 1968, in Quezon City, Philippines and
immigrated with his family to the United States in 1974. They settled in New
York City shortly thereafter; lived in Elmhurst before moving to Jamaica Estates
in 1978.
Victor joined the Philippine-New York Jaycees and became fully engaged right
away. He co-chaired last yearʼs Philippine Independence Day Parade and was
very involved in chapter projects since he joined. He was also an ardent
runner, representing the chapter in the New York City Marathon. Victor took
the position of Chapter Director in 2007 and was elected as Chapter President
for 2008. In addition, he was recognized by the New York State Junior
Chamber, as the "Most Outstanding Jaycee" in 2007.

Gary has been a Member of the Philippine New York Jaycees since September of 2002 and has served as
Legal Counsel for the organization from 2003 to the present. In the year 2006, Gary served as the
Membership Services Vice-President (MSVP) of this organization, which underwent a period of tremendous
membership growth during the year that Gary was the chapter MSVP. Gary won the Year-End Award
recognized by the New York State Jaycees as the Most Outstanding Local Chapter Vice-President of the Year
in the Membership Services area in the entire state. In the process of winning the NewYork State Jaycees
Year-End Award in 2006,Gary was able to achieve a most impressive historic sweep of all four State Quarterly
Awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Quarters) given out during the year as the Most Outstanding Local Chapter Vice-
President in the Membership Services area for all four Quarters of 2006.
Last year in 2007, Gary became the 44th Chapter President of this storied organization, with the 2007 chapter
theme of 'Driven to Excellence'. Under President Gary's leadership, the chapter finished as the Runner-Up in
the Year-End State Award of Most Outstanding Local Chapter of the Year in 2007. However, individually,
President Gary was the Winner of the Don Cavalli Award as the Most Outstanding Local Chapter President of

Philippine New York Jaycees Chapter. Gary was also the NY State Jaycees Master Speak-Up Year-End

Now in the current year of 2008, Gary has assumed the role of Immediate Past President (IPP) and as
Chairman of the Board (COB) of Directors & Officers. However, Gary continues to wear many hats as a
Jaycee and still serves as Legal Counsel for the Chapter, as well as, the chapter's State Director (Liason to
the NY State Jaycees). In additon to his local chapter duties, Gary currently serves as a State Officer as the
2008 NY State Region Director for Region South.
Most recently,Gary has begun his own solo private law practice in Jersey City, New Jersey, with his office

not only in lawyers organizations but is also quite active with several other young adult professional
organizations, including, Collaborative Opportunities for Raising Empowerment, commonly known as CORE
and the Filipino Young Professionals of New York City (FYP-NYC). In all, as you can see, Gary has shown to
be quite a well-rounded Jaycee and an active young Fil-Am.
