before the cumulative patch is installed. To determine if this issue exists, you
need to answer the following two questions.
1. Did this computer upgrade from R430.1 to R430.2 without any problems?
If Yes, continue with the migration to R430.3 point release.
2. Was the Honeywell Adapter configured to a fixed IP address from DHCP
after the initial installation was completed?
OR
Was the computer initialized without configuring the IP Address? If yes,
then the computer may become unstable after upgrade.
If the answer to question 2 is Yes or unknown, contact the Migration Help
Desk (MHD) for further assistance before migrating to R430.3.

Tera Term to replace HyperTerm
Starting with R430.3, HyperTerm/HyperTerminal emulator is discontinued and Tera Term terminal emulator is
included with Experion. You must use Tera Term for all terminal emulator needs, including communication with
Cisco switches. If HyperTerm is installed, discontinue its use and remove it from your system. Note the
following:

Experion supports Tera Term version 4.82.

Tera Term can be installed on any node that is used for configuring the FTE switches.
Tera Term is available on the Experion media set and can be installed based on requirement. It is not
automatically installed as part of Experion installation.
Tera Term is also available on Honeywell Process Solutions website for installation and use with previous
releases of Experion.

2 EXPERION PKS R430.3 INSTALLATION

2.1 Installing the point release on non-redundant server node

Attention
Installing Experion PKS R430.3 from removable drives (CD, DVD, USB drives) is not supported.
Before installing the point release, you must stop the SNMP services. If PMD is installed, use PDS Server tool from
Start > All Programs > PMD > Start Or Stop PDS Server and stop the PMD services. Use the Experion PKS
Start-Stop Services Control Panel tool to stop all services manually.

To stop the services

1

Log on to the server using an account that is part of both the Windows Administrators and Product
Administrators group.
Attention
Ensure that you log on with the mentioned required privileges.

For systems with licensed QVCS only: Open the QVCS Manager application and complete the required
QVCS operations (for example: Check in, Check out, revert, and so on). Close the QVCS Manager
application manually.

Perform the following Checkpoint tasks.

a

Disable all Checkpoint tasks; click Stop for all the scheduled Checkpoint tasks.
Attention
Any currently executing Checkpoint tasks must be complete before continuing. Ensure that all the automatic
or manual Checkpoint Save tasks are complete.

b
c

Ensure that the Checkpoint share has replicated correctly to all the Console stations.
To verify the replication of the Checkpoint shares, check the Event Summary Display page on the
Station after the manual/auto Checkpoint Saves are completed for all controllers. If the Event
Summary Display page does not display any replication failure event, the replication is successful.

Disable all virus scan/protection/backup applications or services. Both the Symantec LiveState Recovery
service (Experion Backup and Restore) and the DVM Logger service, if present, must be disabled.
Attention
You must enable the services after completing the procedure.

Close all the running applications.

If RSLinx is installed, perform the following steps to stop RSLinx for systems using ControlNet.
On the desktop, right-click My Computer and select Manage.
The Computer Management window appears.
b Expand Services and Applications in the left pane.
c Click Services.
The list of services appears in the right pane.
d Perform the following steps.

release from the ESM client. For more information, refer to the Installation Builder User's guide. If you
are not using ESM to install the point release, go to step b.
b Ensure that you are logged on using an account that is part of both the Windows Administrators and
Product Administrators group.
c Browse to the folder (downloaded and extracted in section 1.3.7) containing the installer Experion PKS
R430.3 > supportsoftware.exe. If the installation is from the network then map the location where the
installer folder is located to the network drive.
a

Attention
1. In the command prompt, as an Administrator, type the following command.
net use <drive>: \\computername\share\<folder> (for example, net use Z: \\199.63.5.151\temp\Experion
PKS R430.3 )
Ensure that the path mapped (for example, \\199.63.5.151\temp\<point release>) has both Read and
Write permissions.
2. Type the user name and password (must be in quotes if there is a blank).
3. In the same command prompt window, change to the above mapped drive and run supportsoftware.exe.
d

Right-click supportsoftware.exe and then click Run as Administrator. If the User Account Control
dialog box is displayed, click Yes to continue.
The Welcome to Experion PKS Update Manager dialog box appears.
Click Install to start the Experion PKS R430.3 installation.
Attention

During the installation, when the system restarts, manually log on to the system with the required
credentials to continue with the installation.
If the installation is being performed from the network, after each system restart, map the drive to continue
the installation. To map the drive, perform the steps as given in the Attention of Step b.
You may see the following error message related to service which cause the installation to abort. Stop the
service manually after acknowledging the message and restart the installation.
Failed to stop <service name>. Installation will be aborted now.

Follow the on-screen instructions and click Finish. The node restarts after the installation is complete.

To validate the installation

To verify if the Experion PKS R430.3 is installed, perform the following steps:
a Using Notepad, open the ProductVersion.txt file located in the following path.

b Verify the ProductVersion.txt for the following:
+Experion PKS R430.3 Install completed on MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS AM/PM
If the above line is present, it indicates that the installation is successful.
Note
After Experion PKS R430.3 point release is installed, an entry is made in the registry to indicate that the
system is upgraded to Experion PKS R430.3. However, no other references are being updated. Hence, you
may also see previous Experion release references in the product info.
