Instructional Plan
What instructional activities will be used? What tasks will students need to complete?
Opening Activities/Introduction to Material:
Lesson Plan Template Adapted from the STARTALK Lesson Planning Guide and Templates for Student Programs
https://startalk.umd.edu/lesson-planning/

(5 minutes) Drill: Sports poll Qu es tu deporte favorito? Created on

www.polleverywhere.com
Students will text in their responses
Students will work with their elbow partners and ask and answer the
questions Qu es tu deporte favorito? Por qu?
(5 minutes) Intro to material: I will choose a student to read the objective. I will briefly
explain what the class will do today. I will tell the class what www.mixbook.com is and then
have them read my example of a book that I created for the lesson
(http://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/holiday/para-describir-el-beisbol-11059064?
vk=3XWy3R6eHL), which will be projected on the screen. Then I will pass out a graphic
organizer so the students can gather their thoughts on what to write and an instruction sheet
on how to use www.mixbook.com, which also has the information for their exit ticket on the
opposite side.
Main Learning Activities:
(30 minutes) Creating the book Students will have 30 minutes to create a short book (at
least 8 pages) on one of the four sports we have previously learned. They will use the proper
vocabulary, proper grammar, and images from the internet.
(15 minutes) Presentations The students will present their books to the class. However,
only part of the class will be able to present today, while the rest of the students will present
the following class time.
Closing Activities:
(5 minutes) I will have a students reread the objective. Then I will have the students do an
exit ticket, which is located on the back of their instruction sheet for using
www.mixbook.com. They will use their smart phones to scan the QR code (if the student does
not have a smart phone, then they will use the computer they are sitting at). The QR code
will take them to www.exittix.com/UnQ8bcd52401a47d01. They will have the rest of class to
answer the two questions (1. Write a sentence about the sport you created your book on. 2.
Do you like creating a book using www.mixbook.com?).

Standards-Based Instruction
How does this lesson address the three communicative modes interpersonal, interpretive
and presentational?
Interpersonal Communication:
Drill: Students will ask and answer, Qu es tu deporte favorito? Por qu?, with their
elbow partners.
Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and
emotions, and exchange opinions
Interpretive Communication:
Students will read my example of a mixbook. They will also have all of their instructions in
Spanish and have to understand them in order to create their books. Students will then
create a book. They will write about a sport in Spanish.
