Initial Growth Plan

School Leader: After completing your self-assessment, please complete your growth plan objectives.
Instructional Director: You will be able to review the School Leaders Growth Plan and their sign-off to indicate they have
submitted it for your review. You should review the plan prior to the Initial Planning Conference.
Growth Focus Element 1

1. After reviewing your Self-Assessment and other data, choose one element from the LAUSD School Leadership Framework to focus on
to move closer toward effective or highly effective practice:

Considering the rubric for the element selected above, what strengths in your current practice, for this element, can you build upon to
advance your practice?:
Establish and implement ongoing opportunities for families.
Allocate time and resources accordingly.

What will you see and hear in your classrooms and school when you improve your practice in this element?:
A stronger connection between staff and parents.
Parents and teachers collaborating to provide ALL students with rich opportunities to enhance students learning and creating a safe and
educational environment for all students.
List the strategies that you will add to your practice in order to achieve your objective:
Create a Parent Advisory Committee and a Parent Workshop Committee.
The parent advisory committee (which is composed of parents and staff members) will meet once a month to review student data (DRDP, parent
surveys and any other relevant information that will be utilized to develop and create opportunities to enrich and enhance our educational
program.
The Parent Workshop Committee is composed of teachers and classroom assistants, they will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with
the different organizations in the community that offers opportunities (e.g., classes, workshops, training) for low income families. They will be
responsible for setting up classes for our families.
List the action steps you will take to implement these strategies (i.e., observe colleagues, read research articles, attend professional
development, etc.):
1. Reach out to colleagues
2. Develop the committee
3. Meet with the committee to explain expectations
4. Develop a brochure of the different types of organizations that provide services for families.

advance your practice?:
Some of the areas I will build upon on my current practice will be to build on my observation skills and the feedback provided to the teachers
(accurate and timely feedback).
What will you see and hear in your classrooms and school when you improve your practice in this element?:

Develop a classroom observation schedule.
Develop a CLASSROOM OBSERVATION RECORD SHEET including all the elements of the Teaching & Learning Framework. After each observation,
complete the record sheet with comments, providing timely and accurate feedback to the teachers.
List the action steps you will take to implement these strategies (i.e., observe colleagues, read research articles, attend professional
development, etc.):

Develop Professional Developments for Instructional Leaders on the topic of English Language Learners/Dual Language Learners
Introduce and incorporate Preschool GLAD strategies in the classrooms. Preschool GLAD strategies will create a rich environment of
language, ideas and concepts. It fosters a success-based, interactive environment that stresses cross-cultural respect and sensitivity. It values
the family, community, and language of the child.
Train teachers in Frontline Phonics; Children learn letters and sounds through music and fun object lessons. As the children begin learning the
letters and sounds, they begin blending concept and they begin reading words and books.
MATH
Develop Professional Developments for Instructional Leaders on the topic of Math, specifically on the topic of Number Sense and
mathematical operations.
Provide Resources on preschool math; specific pedagogy and strategies to incorporate and teach math at the preschool level.
Instructional Materials:
Inventory and replenish instructional materials, which foster the development in Math. Such materials that include number games,
manipulatives, and animal counters.
Incorporate math activities during small group, mealtime, large group and outdoor activities. Implement and develop activities that will
enhance learning in number sense, such as matching, counting, classifying and sorting objects.
Incorporate problem solving activities that foster and develop simple addition and subtraction, such as, estimation jar, calendar, computer
software, graphs, and counters.
