David: What's goin' on?

[crowd cheers]

MR. SENSITIVE

HEROES

[David takes a "Neal is my Guitar Hero" sign out of the audience and sets it on
Neal's side of the stage]

David: How we doin' tonight everybody?

[crowd cheers]

David: Ahhh good Lord. So we uh, we've been on the road awhile. But uh, we just
got off of a little, a little four-day break and, we've got a lot of energy to give you
guys, so help us out.

[crowd cheers]

David: Well first off, I have to ask. I've now seen, like, three or four signs about an
elephant ear.

[crowd cheers]

David: Am I that transparent in my terrible eating habits, that you guys all seem to
think that that's all I want? Maybe I want a corn dog, too. Maybe you need to think
about that.

[crowd cheers, David laughs]

David: I already told. I love it. Good God. Alright, we're gonna keep things rollin'
with a little song off-- how many people in this audience have The Record?

[crowd cheers]

David: Then you know-- [laughs as he spots some objects being waved around in
the back] Hold on. Hold those up. Andy what's uh, ho-- hold on. [turns to Andy]
What's the uh, what's that thing on "Family Guy?"

Andy: It looks like it, but it's not. It's--

David: What, what is it?

Andy: It's a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man.

David: You gotta say it right, if you're gonna say it.

Andy [very quickly]: Wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man

David: One more time.

Andy [very quickly, mimicking the TV character voice]: Wacky waving inflatable
arm-flailing tube man.

David: Do you remember where you can find those? Is it--

Andy: I don't.

David: Off, off I-5 [mimicking character's voice] in Weekapaug!

[Andy and audience laugh]

David: We really are gonna play more songs, I promise. [referring to tube men]
Those things are ridiculous, Miss.

I DID IT FOR YOU

David: Thank you very much.

[crowd cheers and yells stuff at David]

David [to audience member]: Do I still like pizza? What the hell kind of question is
that? Of course I love pizza. Why, do you have some? I'm gonna stop talking about
food. I feel like there's a theme...with this night already.

[crowd yells things at David]

David [to audience member]: It is the theme every night, you're right. I do eat
nothing but food. [laughs] How does that statement even work? Of course I eat
nothing but food. What else would I eat? That's gross.

[David tosses a pick at someone in the audience and misses his target. He makes a
disappointed sound]

David: Alright so this next song is uh...well this, this next song has a bit of history
behind it. It's actually...
[David pauses to hear Neal say something to him in the secret mic. He laughs.]

David: This next mea-- [laughs]. So we have a closed-circuit mic over here, and
Neal's talkin' while I'm talkin', and it's funny. So...sorry you guys are missin' out. [to
audience member] What did he say? You don't wanna know.

David: But uh...this uh, this next song is actually from before Idol. It's a song called
"We're Only Honest When We're Sleeping."

[crowd cheers]

David: I wanna see everybody's hands in the air just like this [puts hands in the air
and starts clapping].

WE'RE ONLY HONEST WHEN WE'RE SLEEPING

David: Thank you very much.

[crowd cheers]

David: How many people in the audience...how many people in the audience
tonight...would you-- are in love?

[crowd cheers]

David: So by default, how many people in the audience are not in love?

[crowd cheers]

David: Less hands but more noise. Interesting. This song's for that second group.

KISS ON THE NECK

David: So uh... [sees child in the audience and waves] Hi sweetheart. Hi.
[acknowledges child with a chin up] Yeah. [laughs].

David [to Neal]: Neal! [points out into audience] There's a group of ladies over here
that want-- oh, he's busy. [to ladies] Sorry.

[Neal turns to David to see what he wants]

David [To Neal, pointing at ladies]: They wa-- they wanted to talk to you.

[Neal waves at ladies and smiles. David laughs]

David: So we uh, we've been uh, we've been uh, ya' know, doin' this whole thing for
awhile. We put The Record out in November. And uh, when we were puttin' The
Record together we wrote a bunch of songs. And some of these songs didn't uh,
didn't make the cut. Doesn't mean they're bad songs...

[some people respond by saying "awww." David gets a confused look on his face]

David: That seemed like the appropriate response at that point? [makes "unsure"
noise] Nah but these uh, they're all songs that, that I and we are still very, very
proud of. And so we try to throw 'em out at, at shows just like this. So you guys
can hear what we're workin' on that didn't...quite make it. Song's called "Souvenir."

SOUVENIR

[David laughs as crowd cheers]

David: Oh, thank you guys...so much. Dude there's...a ton of people in here right
now. I'm lovin' this.

[crowd cheers]

David: Thank you guys so much for comin' out man and supportin' us and...buyin'
the records and...watchin' the videos and...voting on all the various....things that
one would vote on in a process such as this.

[crowd cheers. David laughs]

David: I gotta say man uh, I remember...this time last year we were actually, we
had just finished up uh, the Idol tour. And I know that tonight is the last night for
this season and...

[crowd cheers]

David: I don't know [waves arms in a circle] where they're at. [looks at whatever is
on his wrist] I don't know who's on stage at this exact moment, as I look at this
watch that isn't really a watch.

[crowd laughs]

David: But uh, I do wanna say man, I, I uh...bein' on the other side of it's a little
strange. And uh, and seein' a new batch of, of uh...amazing people go through the
process, and to see it kind of all come to an end for them, and they're all gonna go
off and do their own things. Its' uh..it's very cool to see. I feel like a
weird...loving...parent, kind of thing. So...

[crowd laughs]

David: Big up to those guys, and when they all come out with records, you guys
should go buy every one of 'em. Deal?

[crowd cheers]

David: I just saw one dude cross his arms when I said that. I'll assume he's not
gonna buy everybody's. That's OK. That's alright.

David: So for those of you earlier, that when I asked if you had The Record,
everybody goes [waves arms in the air] Wooooo! like that. You guys should know
this next song.

DECLARATION

[Prior to the banter beginning, David apparently went to switch guitars but ended
up keeping the same one]

David: Thank you.

[crowd cheers]

David: Looked at the setlist and looked too far down. I think, "it's time to take off
this guitar and switch it." It's not. I was wrong.

[crowd yells things at David]

David: Uh...[to audience member] Happy Birthday to your sister, Anne Marie.
Where is she at?

[Audience member indicates where she is]

David: She's all the way over there? [points toward the back right] Or right here?
[points toward the middle] Wherever you are, Happy Birthday to the elusive Anne
Marie. Well done.

[crowd applauds and cheers. David laughs]

David: You guys in the back havin' a good time?

[crowd in the back cheers]

David: Is there, like, assigned seating up there? Or do you guys just-- are you anti-
social and don't like sittin' around other people? [listens to crowd's reaction] Well
either way, thanks for comin' out. Maybe say hi to somebody. [laughs]

David: This song is uh...this song is one of the, one of the first we actually wrote for
this record. And uh, kinda talks about...I don't know, how absurd and weird it is to
be on a TV show...and everybody knows who you are.

[crowd cheers]

David: Called "Life on the Moon."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOb3GffO9hk

LIFE ON THE MOON

[first part of banter unavailable]

[David is talking about the band]

David: ...on stage with me.

[crowd cheers]

David: Kinda like a boy band, but not really. [points to Andy] This is Donnie.

[crowd cheers]

David [pointing at Monty] Joey

[crowd cheers]

David [looking and pointing at Kyle]: Jonathan?

[Kyle says something to David as crowd cheers]

David [looking at Neal and snapping his fingers trying to remember the name]: And
uh...Jordan?

[crowd cheers]

David: Wait a minute. Who am I, then? Who's left?

[crowd yells names at David as David looks to Andy for direction. Andy gives him a
name]

David [looking at Andy]: Steve? Steve, uh-- I'm Stan. My name's Stan. [laughs]

David: Alright, for real. [motions to Andy] This is my good buddy Andy over here.
[crowd cheers. Andy puts his hand up]

[David looks at Monty, who wipes his face off with a towel]

David: This is Montague. This is Monty, right over here. [to Monty] You're not gonna
do that dance you did the last time I introduced you over here? [points to open area
of the stage]

[Monty moves his arms in a "no" motion. He then makes another motion with his
arms, and David laughs]

David: On the drums we have Mr. Kyle.

[crowd cheers. Kyle waves]

David: We call him Peek-a-Boo. [looks at Kyle, who nods his head "no"] No? Well I
call you Peek-a-Boo, I don't care.

David: And then this is uh [pointing at Neal], this is the Dr. This is Mr. Neal.

[crowd cheers]

David: So I've had the pleasure of sharin' the stage with uh, these guys for awhile.
And uh...I used to be in a band in Tulsa, Oklahoma [points hands out to sides] with
these two guys right here.

[crowd cheers]

David: And uh, the band was called "MWK," and we used to play a song called
"Make Me," which we're gonna play for you guys right...now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdT1Mh_yad0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaARjCau6gA

MAKE ME

LIE

David: So when the sun goes down, that's usually when uh, when things get a little
crazy, and people do things they wouldn't normally do...

[crowd cheers]

David: And I got a feelin' that there's some people in this crowd that, that adhere to
that philosophy.

[crowd cheers]
David: So I'll make ya' a deal. This next song is uh...it's a little bit-- [in a high voice]
ehhh it's, it's a little louder, a little more beat than the other stuff, so...

[crowd cheers]

David: So...we will, we'll play this song extra good.

[crowd cheers]

David: You guys move around a little bit, make some extra noise. Who knows,
maybe touch the person to your left or your right. I don't care. Just have a good
time. This song is called "Bar-Ba-Sol."

[song starts. David says something into the secret mic before heading back to the
center microphone]

David: Help me count this off Michigan! Are you ready?

[Crowd helps David count 1-2-3-4]

BAR-BA-SOL

David: So we've had the...absolute privilege of playin', playin' uh, and sharin' the
stage with a lot of amazing people. And, and not, not that long ago, we uh, we had
the chance to uh, to go to New York and play at the uh, Good Morning America
Summer Concert Series.

[crowd cheers]

David: Presented by Suave shampoos and condit-- I don't know what it was. I
wasn't really payin' attention. But uh...we got to share the stage with a couple guys
from this season of Idol. A guy named uh...

[crowd cheers]

David: ...Adam Lambert.

[crowd cheers. Band plays a riff]

David: And a gentleman named Kris Allen.

[crowd cheers. Band plays a riff]

David [referencing the amount of crowd noise for each person]: It's too close to tell,
I don't know. [laughs] But uh, they are absolute great guys, and, and uh, fantastic
performers, as you guys are all aware. And uh...we got to perform a song
together...

[some people in the crowd cheers]

David: ...that apparently about twenty of you saw. And everybody else is like:
"What?"

[crowd cheers]

David: So, with the exception of those twenty, you guys are in for a little education.

[crowd cheers]

David: It's by a band called "Fleetwood Mac."

LITTLE LIES

[during the musical interlude, David talks to the crowd]

David: Allegan Michigan, you guys have been absolutely incredible. Thank you guys
so much. [takes a drink as crowd claps] Some of you got it figured out. I want to
see the rest of you clappin' those hands.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07O4MZSetIs

[David takes a guitar from Johnny Metal]

David: Give it up for our fantastic crew! [claps]

[crowd cheers]

David: Man, I said it during the last song and I meant it, man. You guys have been
absolutely amazing. I thank you so, so much for comin' out tonight.

[crowd cheers]

David: This is uh...this next song is our, is our, is our current single.

[crowd cheers]

COME BACK TO ME

ENCORE

STRAIGHT AHEAD

[David laughs at something he sees in the audience]

David: Yeah! Is that a lighter? Holy hell, an actual lighter. Not like a, lighter
application...or a cell phone. An actual lighter. I figure you got another two, three
seconds before your thumb lights on fire. So you might wanna just relax.

[more people in the crowd start taking out lighters]

David: Uh-oh. We got a bunch of copycat crowds goin' on now. Look at ya'. I love
it.

[crowd cheers. David laughs]

David: Hey, thank you guy-- I, I've said it a lot tonight, and, and uh, I worry that
sayin' it too much might come off as insincere. But I really cannot say thank you
enough to, to uh...

[David laughs as crowd cheers]

David: To do...to do...[waves arms] this...uh, music thing for as long as we have
and, and to play for like, maybe [motions to people in the front] these three people
here, and the rest of you guys are off doin' other things. To have this many people
show up to watch us make noise, man, is one of the coolest things...that could ever
happen.

[crowd cheers]

David: So thank you guys very, very, very, very much for that.

[crowd cheers. David sees a sign and laughs]

David [to person in crowd]: Did you ser-- alright, did you seriously make that sign
just, just in case I said thank you? The sign says "You're Welcome." And I'm
thinkin' either you...you are amazingly quick at arts and crafts, or...you're
Nostradamus. One of the two. What were you gonna do with that if I didn't say
thank you? If I would have just been like [in "manly" voice]: "Whatever, guys."
[backs away from mic stand and throws his arms in the air]

[crowd laughs. David goes to grab mic stand without looking, and misjudges where
it is. He then playfully grabs the air as if it's the mic stand. Crowd laughs and
cheers]

David: It's all part of the program. Guys, thank you so much. This is "Light On."
