ALTERNATIVE APPLICATIONS

SOIL FILLS & SOIL BLOCKS

Soil fills to plinth level and around foundation columns need to comprise of non-expansive soil and well
compacted soils. Conventional methodology in sites comprising of weak expansive soils requires soil
replacement. This process increases construction time, logistical complexities and costs. Additionally,
mechanical compaction is often difficult and plagued by human error. Poorly compacted soils begin to
settle resulting in surface level undulations leading to gaps between the concrete layer above, which is the
leading cause for flooring cracks.
Terrabind advanced soil stabiliser is an answer to the several complexities faced by developers in
construction sites comprising of weak expansive clays.
Terrabind solution when mixed with clay soils produces elevated concentrations of hydrogen that
expel ionised water and dissolve mineral compounds in soil. The recrystallization process results in
improved cementation and break down of capillary action thus rendering increased particle
density, cohesion, compressive strength and compaction while reducing/ eliminating swell pressure.
Terrabind gives the scope to develop an innovative range of design mixes. Terrabind treated soil can
be mixed with cement to produce superior quality stabilised soil blocks without the problem of heaving/
sulphate attacks. Terrabind treated soil mixed with cement can reduce concrete utilisation by reducing
traditional PCC flooring thickness. Terrabind treated soil can be used as subgrade layers for pathways,
roads, paver block/ cabro soil foundations and other quick fix solutions for wall plaster, pot hole filler etc.
With Terrabind, the need to replace soil is eliminated without compromise on acceptable engineering
properties of soil. Terrabind does not contravene ground water ecology nor does it inhibit the growth of
flora and fauna on Terrabind treated soil.

Applications
Terrabind is diluted in water and sprayed from a water truck then homogenously mixed with soil using a
grader/ cultivator/ disc harrow/ rotovator after which it is left to aerate for 30 minutes. This is followed by
compaction using a combination of vibratory and non-vibratory compaction.
FILL MATERIAL - If the treated soil is to be used as a fill material to plinth level or around foundation
columns, then mix soil with Terrabind solution followed by an excavator to lift and place the soil in a
truck for backfill. This is followed by vibratory compaction in lift thickness not exceeding 30 cms. Dry
curing period is 3 to 10 days (depending on weather conditions). For optimum results keep the area
covered for the first 3 days. Moisture curing is not required.
STABILISED SOIL BLOCKS - Where the treated soil is to be used for stabilised soil blocks, the same
process as above applies. After the curing period, the Terrabind treated soil is pulverised, mixed with
cement+water then compacted cured in the conventional method for stabilised soil blocks.
