Marriot Hotel

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the quality of services at the Marriot Hotel. As a
tourist, I must say that my witer holiday was totally compromised by all the problems that I had
to deal with during my stay there.
First of all, I booked a room with a relaxing mountain view, but I had no other option but to stay
in a street view room because apparently, my reservation was not included in Marriot`s system
database. Considering that the hotel is placed downtown, every morning I was awakened by the
noise and uproar of the street, instead of starting my day in peace and harmony.
Second, the service was deplorable. The breakfast was always late and twice I was forced to eat
in a different restaurant, although the lunch was included in the promotional price, because the
hotel kitchen was left without supplies. In addition, the bathroom was flooded in the some day
we left the hotel. The maid was so careless that she forgot the sink faucet open. I threw almost all
my cosmetics because I could no longer use them.
Conseqnetly due to the discomfort and inconvenience, I would like to ask for compensation.
Acording to the hotel policy that I read on your wesite, www.marriothotel.com, you pay back
50% of the total cost if the guest has more that one majour inconvenient during his stay there. In
light of these facts, I am entitled to claim that payment.
Plese inform me about your decision as soon as possible.

Dear Spencer,

I didn`t hear from you for a while. It`s been two mounts since you left the country for studying
abroad. I hope you are doing well and that you are enjoying your experience in France. I wish I
had the chance to leave the country and study abroad for an entire semester. My life experience
would be greatly improved.
Last week I saw one of Tarkovsky`s movies, which remembered me of our long discussions
about his poetic cinematography. As he is one of my favorite directors/filmmakers, I was
thinking to write my undergraduate work on the subject of his artistic philosophy, but I would
like very much to hear your opinion. I had always loved your critical point of view, so any advice
you can give me will be very loved and appreciated.
In another train of thoughts, I hope you had a wonderful winter holiday. I saw some amazing
pictures on your Facebook page, so I`m waiting to find out the entire story from you. I wish we
can get together in the break between semesters. I miss your company and I`m looking forward
to hear all the details about the French people and their education system and policies.

Cultural Unity in the European Space

The idea of European unification has its origins in the last century and its implications extend
beyond the economic and geographic area. European continent has emerged over time as a
community of cultures that has generated the most important literary and artistic movements and
a powerful political and religious system. The essential element in the construction of European
civilization was the intense exchange of ideas and cultural practices between the most developed
nations, which became a social, economic and political model for the other European and nonEuropean countries.
Considering that the culture of a nation is defined by all the essential characteristics of a society,
it has a vital influence in the European integration process. Creating a defining common space
for all the European states is not a easy thing to do. Finding common elements for bringing
together all the cultures without destroying every nation`s specificity can be very difficult. The
metaphor of the unity in diversity was one of the most important issues that influenced the
creation of a common area dominated by peace and prosperity.
Even if we refer to Europe as a great civilization, there are several element which create division
between its nations. There are several religions, several communities and castes, several
languages and beliefs which automatically create different lifestyles and mentalities. This can
easily modify the idea of European unification either in favour or against the people. The main
mission of the European Union policy is to transform these diversity in a very useful element
which stimulate and increases life quality and constant developement.
However, in spite of all these basic differences, in Europe`s relasionship with other great
civilizations, one come across a peculiar sense of unity. This idea emphasizes the importance of
cultural unity for defining and protecting our identity as social beings.
