Strong: c, d, f, g, h
Medium: a, e
Weak: b, i
Some of the strong adverbs (utterly, absolutely,
completely, and totally) combine best with
adjectives that already imply an extreme: gripping,
action-packed, spine-chilling, spectacular,
tremendous, fantastic, amazing, stunning.
Of the medium adverbs, really and rather combine
with most adjectives, but rather can sound odd with
adjectives that imply an extreme, e.g. not rather
fantastic.
The weak adverbs go best with less extreme
adjectives, especially those with a negative
implication: slow-moving, predictable, far-fetched,
awkward, wooden, uninspired, unconvincing,
mediocre, disappointing.
