EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE.

Battle between the Scots and the Irish invaders is seen

taking place. Confusion. MACBETH runs through middle and seen
destroying everyone in his path. Beheads MACDONWALD.

CUT TO:

TITLE ACT 1

EXT. FOREST

MACBETH and BANQUO are walking toward the castle. Ominous

music is playing. Creepy laughter is heard.

MACBETH
The gods have been on our side this
day, Banquo.

BANQUO
(Looking around)
No one can deny that, my Thane, and
yet this eerie feeling hangs about
like clothes to my body.

MACBETH turns to BANQUO laughing.

MACBETH
Fear not Banquo for whatever
trouble dare show his face in front
of us will surely not survive to
face the next. The greatest
warriors in all of Scotland have
nothing to fear.

MACBETH turns to run into WITCH 1. WITCHES come really close

to both men and walk around them almost seductively.

WITCH 1
Macbeth, so brave and so bold.

MACBETH
How do you know my name?

WITCH 2
Who doesn't, oh mighty Thane of
Glamis?

WITCH 3
Macbeth, do you believe your
victories this day will go
unrewarded?

WITCH 1
Yes, my dear Thane of Cawdor. This
journey has not yet come to an end.

BANQUO
For as long as the true Thane
lives, Macbeth shall never hold
that title.

WITCH 2
Hush now Banquo, for you will be
greater still.

WITCH 3
But for now, hail Macbeth, the King
of Scotland!

The WITCHES disappear and Macbeth and Banquo look around for
them but do not find them.

BANQUO
Do you truly believe the claims of
those three creatures?

MACBETH
Let me ask you this Banquo, do you
never wonder what would happen if
you were the real king?

MACBETH breaks into song “IF I WERE KING OF SCOTLAND”

MACBETH (CONT’D)
If I were King of Scotland,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba
deedle deedle dum.
It is my vaulting ambition.
To be ruler of all Scotland.
I have to kill King Duncan.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba
deedle deedle dum.
If I were the king of Scotland,
I would be a very happy man.

But the king has put so much trust

in me
I cannot let him down.
As his relative and subject, I
should protect him
I have to show my loyalty to the
throne
I shouldn’t kill him, I’m his host.
I’m supposed to keep the murderers
away!
(MORE)

MACBETH (CONT’D)
He is loved by all the people of
Scotland;
he is such a humble leader.
In his death, he'll leave a great
legacy.
Everybody will weep once they hear
that their precious ruler died.
But I REALLY WANT TO BE THE KING!

If I were King of Scotland,

Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba
deedle deedle dum.
I will do what must be done.
So that I can rule Scotland.
I WILL kill King Duncan!
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba
deedle deedle dum.
If I were the king of Scotland,
I would be a very happy man!

Camera watches them walk deeper into the forest. Black out.

INT. CASTLE ROOM

DUNCAN is seated on his throne. MALCOLM walks in.

DUNCAN
Have you found the traitor?

MALCOLM
Yes father, and you can be sure
that the dear Thane will dealt with
most lethally.
DUNCAN
And Macdonwald, what news of that
rascal?

MALCOLM
Macbeth has seen to it that his
rebellion comes to an end.

DUNCAN
Ah Macbeth, most virtuous of all
the Thanes in my land. We must see
to it that he is greeted with the
traitor's former title.
(Pause)
Yes, Macbeth shall be Thane of
Cawdor.

Enter MESSENGER.
 4.

MESSENGER
Thane of Glamis has arrived, and
with him Banquo.

DUNCAN
Send them in.

Exit MESSENGER. Enter MACBETH and BANQUO.

MACBETH
Your Highness.
(Bows down, on one knee)

DUNCAN
Rise, virtuous Thane. Your
victories this day have been the
greatest of my day.

MACBETH
I live to serve you and my country,
my liege.

DUNCAN
And you have served us well. As a
token of our gratitude we give to
you the land of Cawdor.

MALCOLM
All hail, Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor!

ALL
All hail, Macbeth.

MACBETH
(A little shocked)
I do not believe I deserve an honor
so rich, my king.

DUNCAN
If not you, then tell me, who?

MACBETH
(After pause)
Well then let us celebrate this
momentous occasion at my castle at
Inverness. I am sure my Lady will
be most pleased to serve you there,
my lord.

FADE OUT.

INT. MACBETH’S BEDROOM

LADY MACBETH is seen sitting on a chair. She is reading a

letter. The words of MACBETH are played back while she is
seen reading. Audio Fade In.

MACBETH
The three witches said not when or
how, but their words were clear.
(Pause)
King of Scotland.

Words echo. LADY MACBETH puts down letter and gets up.

LADY MACBETH
The prophesies have begun to come
true. First, Thane of Cawdor, and
that has been done. And now he must
wear the crown of the king. He will
wear the crown.
(Pause, looks up, spins)
All the spirits of this world and
next. Speak to me, reveal, how this
Thane will take the throne. Demons
of ambition, unsex me here. Let me
feel no pain, no regret, no fear.
(Falls to the ground;
screams)

Enter MESSENGER swiftly, creeped out.

MESSENGER
My Lady, Macbeth has arrived.

Exit MESSENGER. Enter MACBETH.

MACBETH
My love, I have brought the King
here to Inverness. See to it that
he is well treated.

LADY MACBETH
When will he leave?

MACBETH
Tomorrow.

LADY MACBETH
Duncan shall not see the light of
tomorrow for this day shall be his
last. The king will end his life,
you must see to that. And I will be
with you, right beside, you all of
the way.

MACBETH
I don’t know about this. My
allegiance belongs to him.

Song background music begins to play - “King Macbeth”

LADY MACBETH
Your allegiance is to none but
yourself. Kill him, and you will be
the king.
(Pause.)
King Macbeth.

Lady Macbeth begins to sing “KING MACBETH” She prepares the

potion for the guards while she does and hands Macbeth dagger
at the end.

LADY MACBETH (CONT’D)

When at first I got this news from

witches, all the three
I'd be grateful, who wouldn't, to
queen of Scotland be
Unless of course the king was Thane
of Glamis
And when Duncan needs a makeover
I simply have to take over
I know you know exactly what he
needs

And mainly in this case,

Though you're the weakest Thane in
all this place
Don't worry, I'm determined to
succeed
Follow my lead,
And yes indeed, you will be…

KING MACBETH, You're gonna be King

Macbeth
I'll teach you the proper ways to
get your praise
The right way to kill the king

Your gonna take this dagger
And kill Duncan finally

BLACK OUT.

TITLE ACT 2

INT. CASTLE ROOM

BANQUO and FLEANCE are present in the room. Camera follows

MACBETH who is entering to the room, holding the dagger
behind him. A SERVANT follows

BANQUO
I see you are not sleeping. The
king is in bed. He’s been in an
great mood and has given your
household and servants many gifts
for your hospitality.

MACBETH
Truth be told, we were unprepared
for the king’s arrival, so we
couldn’t take care of him as well
as he’d like.
BANQUO
All is well.
(Pauses. Looks around, and
quietly says)
I had a dream last night about the
three witches. Their words held
some truth to them.

MACBETH
I don’t want to think about them.
But, later, we must discuss this
matter.

BANQUO
Whatever you’d like.

MACBETH
Your loyalty will be rewarded in
due time.

BANQUO
I’ll do whatever you want as long
as my conscience stays clean.

MACBETH
In the meanwhile... relax.
(Stoops down to FLEANCE)
You too, Fleance.

BANQUO
Thanks, sir.
(As he walks away)
And good night.

BANQUO and FLEANCE exit. MACBETH turns to SERVANT and says in

a low voice. Begin “BET ON IT” music.

MACBETH
Tell my wife to sound the bell when
my drink is ready and then go to
bed.

SERVANT
Yes, my lord.

The SERVANT exits. MACBETH begins to sing. The CHORUS are

voices from the castle walls.

MACBETH
(Singing)
Is this a dagger which I see before
me?
Is the handle pointing toward my
hand?
Come on dagger, let me clutch you
tightly.
I don’t have you but you’re still
right there.

CHORUS
Did you see it?

MACBETH
The dagger that is floating right
there

CHORUS
Did you see it?

MACBETH
Now I can’t find it anywhere

CHORUS
Did you see it?

MACBETH
Hallucinations cloud my mind
Was it ever really there?
Like the dagger I have right here?

I'm not gonna stop, that's who I am

The dagger is a sign, it leads me
to my plan
Will I murder King Duncan?
You know you can

MACBETH (CONT'D)
Duncan, you’re going down, today is
the day
I am the type of guy who means what
I say.
Bet on it, bet on it

BLACK OUT.

INT. MACBETH’S BEDROOM

LADY MACBETH is present. She walks around holding the drink.

Speaks boldly, proud of herself.

LADY MACBETH
The drinks that have made them
intoxicated have made me bold; what
has quenched their thirst has put
me on edge.
(Pauses. Motions outside.
Speaks softly.)
Listen! Quiet! The owl screeched
“Good Night” like the bell ringing
before an execution. Macbeth must
be murdering the king while his
guards look like fools, snoring
away. You can’t even tell if
they’re dead or alive given the
amount of medicine I put in their
drinks.

MACBETH enters into darkness.

MACBETH
(Scared. Speaks
hesitantly.)
Who's there? What’s that?

LADY MACBETH
My husband!

MACBETH
I killed him. Did you not hear a
noise?

LADY MACBETH
I heard the owl cry and the
crickets sound. Didn’t you say
something?

MACBETH
(Confused. Scared. Not
listening.)
When?

LADY MACBETH
Just now, as you came down.

MACBETH
No.
(Scared. Motions to door.)
Do you hear that? They’re coming
for me. They’re screaming my name.

LADY MACBETH
(Concerned.)
Who? Who screams your name?

MACBETH
The guards. They say “Macbeth,
Macbeth sleeps no more.” Do you not
hear them?
(Scared. Looks about
himself.)

MACBETH continues to speak, almost inaudible. LADY MACBETH

attempts to soothe her husbands, calm him down.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
(Quielty. To himself.)
I thought I heard a voice cry
“Sleep no more! Macbeth murders
sleep.” Innocent sleep. Sleep knits
up the unraveled sleeve of care. It
is the death of each day’s life.
Sleep relieves the weary laborer
and heals hurt minds. Sleep is the
main and most nourishing course of
life’s feast.

LADY MACBETH
(Meanwhile.)
Hush. Hush. Listen Macbeth. There
is nothing. Hush now.

MACBETH is now more worried. Holds up dagger with blood on

it. It falls to the floor.

LADY MACBETH (CONT’D)

You must take that dagger back.
Smear the blood on the guards.

MACBETH is louder now. Moves away from LADY MACBETH, scared.

MACBETH
No, no. I’m not going back there.
No.

LADY MACBETH
(Picking up dagger)
Coward! I will do it. The Dead and
Sleeping can’t hurt you any more
than pictures can.

She leaves. MACBETH quietly slumps to a corner. Camera zooms

in on his trembling, sweaty face.

BLACK OUT.

EXT. CASTLE DOOR.

MACDUFF and LENNOX knocking on the door. A PORTER opens the

door. He is drunk. Looks sheepishly at the men.

MACDUFF
Did you have such a late night that
it was hard for you to get up just
now?

PORTER
Sorry, sir. We were up late
entertaining the king.

MACDUFF
Where is your master? Is he awake?

MACBETH enters. Frazzled.

LENNOX
Good morning, Macbeth.

MACBETH
And to you two.

MACDUFF
Is the king stirring, thane? I was
told to wake him this early hour.

MACBETH
No. But I shall take you to him.

MACDUFF
I know being the host to King
Duncan is both an honor and a
trouble, but it is still a trouble,
nonetheless.

MACBETH
The work we enjoy is not really
work. Here’s his door.

MACDUFF
I’ll wake him up. It’s my job.

MACDUFF exits. LENNOX and MACBETH converse.

LENNOX
Last night was bizarre. People are
saying they heard cries of grief in
the air, strange screams of death,
and terrible voices predicting
catastrophes.
(Pauses.)
Some people say that the earth
shook as if it had a fever.

MACBETH
It was a rough night.

LENNOX
I’ve never seen anything like it.

MACDUFF returns with fury.

MACDUFF
The horror! This is beyond words!
Unbelievable!

MACBETH
(Trying to look concerned)
What's the matter?
MACDUFF
Go into the bedroom and see for
yourself. What’s in there will make
you freeze with horror.

MACBETH and LENNOX exit. MACDUFF confused, paces around.

Yells to the SERVANT.

MACDUFF (CONT’D)
Wake up, wake up! Ring the alarm
bell. Murder and treason! Banquo
and Donalbain, Malcolm! Wake up!
Ring the bell.

Bell Rings. Commotion is heard. Enter LADY MACBETH and

BANQUO.

LADY MACBETH
What’s going on? Why is that
terrifying trumpet calling
together everyone who’s sleeping in
the house?

MACDUFF
Oh, Banquo. The king has been
murdered!

LADY MACBETH
How horrible! How could this happen
in our own house?

BANQUO
Macduff, please tell us that you
are lying!

MACBETH and LENNOX re-enter with ROSS.

LENNOX
It is true. He has been murdered.

MALCOLM enters with DONALBAIN.

MALCOLM
Who? Who has been murdered?

MACBETH
Your father. The guards, those
guards killed him. And I have had
the pleasure of doing the same to
them.

MACDUFF
Why would you do that?

MACBETH
Is it possible to be wise,
bewildered, calm, furious, loyal,
and neutral all at once? Nobody can
do that. I let my love for Duncan
fuel my rage against them.

MACBETH exits with LENNOX. LADY MACBETH faints. The other men
attend to her.

MALCOLM
(Aside. To Donalbain.)
We must leave now or else we will
be next.
 16.

DONALBAIN
Yes brother. They will come after
you now. You are the heir to the
throne.

MALCOLM and DONALBAIN exit. Confusion and commotion are seen

as men attend to LADY MACBETH.

FADE OUT.

EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE.

MACDUFF and ROSS are speaking. Camera catches up to them from

behind.

ROSS
What good would it have done those
men to kill Duncan?

MACDUFF
They were paid to betray their
master. Malcolm and Donalbain, the
king’s two sons, have run away and
fled, which makes them the prime
suspects.

ROSS
Everything is wrong. And now I must
be off to see them crown Macbeth
king at Scone. Will you be joining
us?

MACDUFF
No, I’m returning to Fife.
Something is not as it seems here.
Good-bye friend.

ROSS
Farewell, Thane.

ROSS stops and stands still as MACDUFF walks away into the
forest.

BLACK OUT.

TITLE ACT 3

INT. CASTLE ROOM

BANQUO is preparing to leave the castle at Dunsinane. Camera

captures him speaking to himself as he packs his belongings.

BANQUO
(To Himself.)
You’ve got it all now... Glamis,
Cawdor, all of Scotland.
(Pause.)
Everything the Weird Sisters
promised. Yet, I have a feeling
that there was foul play on your
part, Macbeth. Something is
definitely not right here.

Enter MACBETH. Seems to be in a happy mood.

MACBETH
Banquo! My good friend! I am to
have a feast tonight, and I am
requesting your presence.

BANQUO
(Cold. Muttering)
May your kingship command me. I am
sworn to abide by your highness.

MACBETH
(Looking at the bags)
Ah but it seems you ride this
afternoon?

BANQUO
Ay my lord. If there horses perform
well it should not take but two
hours.

MACBETH
That is great, simply, do not
forget our feast. And your son,
Fleance?

BANQUO
He comes with me too.

MACBETH
Well then my friend, travel safely
and be swift. Farewell Banquo.

BANQUO exits. Camera pans to MACBETH’s face. MURDERER 1 step

out of the shadows.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
Kill them.

MURDERER 1
Ay my lord.
 18.

MURDERER 1 bow and exit the room. Camera remains on Macbeth’s

face and then black out.

BLACK OUT.

EXT. FOREST

It is dark, past dusk. The MURDERERS wait on a small hill for

the Banquo, looking down. The camera moves around them as
MURDERER 1 begins to sing “MY FRIENDS.”

MURDERER 1
(Singing.)
Hello my friends.
Lets plan a murder.
Ut's Banquo's time
How he smiles in the light.
My friends.
He needs to die.

King told me friends.

Listen
We're to kill
I know
Its time
We strike at midnight
With our might!
It's time My friends
Well let us go and kill Banquo.
Oh! And Fleance too
And we'll do wonders.
Won't we?
my murderous friends!
Come, we must leave quickly.
Now,
Ah, the knife grows warm in my hand
My friends!
Lets go my friends

Come now my friends

now we'll unseam you
Soon you'll feel cold death
Its time to dream
Lets end your days
My mortal friend
I hear your cry
How I hold this sword
Friends, he shall drip rubies
You'll soon drip precious rubies

As the crescendo heightens, BANQUO and FLEANCE are seen

walking through the forest. At the height of the music,
BANQUO yells with a fury to FLEANCE.

BANQUO
Fly good Fleance, fly, fly, fly!

The MURDERERS land on the ground.

MURDERER 1
(Spoken.)
At last. Banquo, prepare to meet
your doom.

The following shot shows the shadow of the MURDERERS as they

attack BANQUO.

BLACK OUT.

INT. DINING HALL

Large rectangular dining table visible. Many people are

standing, chatting. Camera catches MACBETH and moves in. He
is having a conversation until LADY MACBETH pulls him to
start the feast.

LADY MACBETH
(Aside.)
We are all very antsy to begin the
feast.

MACBETH
(Aside.)
Yes my lady.
(To the rest. Loud.)
Good Evening my friends! You know
your own degrees. Please, sit down,
and enjoy my feast for you!
(Ends abruptly.)

MACBETH sees MURDERER 1 motioning to him at the doorway.

MACBETH loses focus for a moment and then addresses guests.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
Excuse me my friends, a matter
urges my attention.

MACBETH walks out of the hall into the CASTLE ROOM. The noise
of the dining room fades away. MACBETH pulls murderers away.
 20.

INT. CASTLE ROOM

MACBETH
There is blood upon they face.

MURDERER 1
It is about Banquo. His throat has
been cut for you.

MACBETH
You are the best of the cutthroats!
You have killed father and son just
as you were asked!

MURDERER 1
I’m afraid, good king, that Fleance
has escaped.

MACBETH
(Contemplative)
That troubles me but I shall not
worry about it too much. Thane
Banquo is dead? Good, then leave. I
will call you at a later time.

MURDERER 1 leaves room. LADY MACBETH enters from the dining

hall.

LADY MACBETH
My lord, you must return to the
feast. They need your attention.

MACBETH
(Still contemplating)
Very well.

INT. DINING HALL

MACBETH walks in and begins to sing. Everyone turns to face

him as he moves about.

MACBETH
There's a banquet going on right
here
A celebration to last throughout
the years
So bring your hot wives, and your
beer too
I’m gonna celebrate my kingship
with you

ALL
Come on now, Celebration
 21.

GHOST BANQUO walks into the room and continues song. MACBETH
is walking around the room.

BANQUO
You jerk you killed me and you
tried to kill my son

ALL
Celebration

MACBETH
(Scared. Walking faster.)
Let’s all celebrate and have a good
time.

LADY MACBETH
It's time to get your act together!
What’s wrong with you?
What's your problem?

MACBETH
(Beckons everyone to
follow him out the room)
Everyone in Dunsinane, Come on!

Everyone else is frazzled and goes outside. MACBETH is alone

and falls on top of table. LADY MACBETH returns and speaks.

LADY MACBETH
Get yourself to bed.
(Agitated)
How can I possibly explain your
behavior to them?

MACBETH
Do what you must and I will do what
I must.
(Getting up from table)
And what I need to do is find where
Fate will lead me next.

Camera zooms in on his face. Intent, determined.

BLACK OUT.

TITLE ACT 4

EXT. FOREST

Scary sounds are heard through the trees as the WITCHES

prepare the potion. Focus on cauldron. WITCH 1 and WITCH 2
move around it. WITCH 3 stays looking at it.

WITCH 1
The onyx cat has meowed three times

WITCH 2
Really? Three times? The hedgehog
only squealed once.

WITCH 3
(Watching the cauldron.
Excited.)
Tis time! Tis time! Harpier cries
Tis time!

ALL
Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
(Cackles.)

WITCH 1
We will boil you next: A snake!

WITCH 2
A newt’s eye and a frog’s tongue!

WITCH 3
A bear’s claw and an owl’s wing!

WITCH 1
Make this charm boil and bubble
like a broth from Hell!

ALL resume to cackling. WITCH 3 stops, while WITCH 1 and

WITCH 2 continue dancing about the pot. WITCH 3 listens for
sound.
WITCH 3
There is a tingling in my thumbs
sisters. Something wicked this way
comes.

Noises of leaves falling and crunching are heard. A man

appears in the darkness. It is MACBETH.

MACBETH
What is it you do at this hour, you
secret hags?
(Pauses. Uninterested.
Questioningly)
Never mind that, I don’t know how
you know the things you do, but you
MUST answer my questions. I am
struck by fear of what has yet to
come. Tell me what I want to know,
now!
 23.

The WITCHES look at each other, smiling.

WITCH 1
Speak.

WITCH 2
Demand.

WITCH 3
(Leaning in.)
And we will give thee a clue.

MACBETH
Tell me what is to pass. The
suspense is terrifying.

WITCH 1 motions to the cauldron as they move around it.

WITCH 1
Appear from the cauldron, you evil
spirits. And show Macbeth what you
know!

APPARITION 1 is a soldier, BANQUO, with helmet on his head.

Rises from the cauldron.

APPARITION 1
Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware
Macduff. Beware the thane of Fife.
(Pauses. Look about.)
Let me go now. Enough.

MACBETH
Tell me -
WITCH 2
(Angered.)
You will not command the higher
spirits. He will speak, and you
will listen.

APPARITION 1 dissolves and out of the cauldron rises the

(Arrogantly.)
Ha! With such prophecies, I need
not worry.

APPARITION 2 dissolves as the first did and the last rises.

APPARITION 3 is a crowned child, FLEANCE.

APPARITION 3
Macbeth shall never vanquished be
until great woods of Birnam Forest
moves to high Dunsinane Hill.

Last APPARITION dissolves into the cauldron. Speaks after a

moment. MACBETH is processing what he has heard.

MACBETH
These were sweet omens! Good! My
murders will never come back to
haunt me until the forest of Birnam
gets up and moves, and I will be
king for my entire natural life.

WITCH 3
Wish to know no more.

A rustling is heard. The WITCHES disappear as soon as they

disappear. The MURDERERS arrive. Camera catches them coming
from behind MACBETH. MACBETH doesn’t turn towards them, but
speaks absolutely. Focus on MACBETH’s face.

MACBETH
Ride to Fife, men, and kill
Macduff.

MURDERER 1
The Thane has fled to England, my
lord.

MACBETH
Then seize his castle at Fife and
kill everyone unwise enough to seek
refuge there.

MURDERER 1
Your wish is our command.

Music crescendos. The murderers leave. Focus is still on

MACBETH’s face.

BLACK OUT.

EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE

The camera approaches the castle. The murderers walk by the

camera. Camera stops and pans out. Focus on castle.

INT. CASTLE ROOM (ENGLAND)

MACDUFF and MALCOLM are in the middle of a conversation at a

window, looking outside, turned away from camera. Camera
zooms in behind them. They turn their heads as they speak.

MALCOLM
You would be much smarter to go to
Macbeth than to come to me. You
have more wits on the battlefield
than I do, he is a much better king
than I am.

MACDUFF
I am not treacherous.
(Pauses.)
You are the rightful heir, you must
be king.

MALCOLM
I have an insatiable love for money
and power. I will terrorize the
lands to feed my hunger. I will
kill the very sons and wives of the
men in Scotland. Will you like
that? I suppose not, go now, go to
Macbeth.

MACDUFF
(Disgusted.)
I was wrong to come here. You are
not fit to rule. You are not even
fit to live.

MACDUFF draws his sword. MALCOLM calms him down and turns the
blade downward, smile on his face.

MALCOLM
You have passed the test, my noble
Thane. You would not forsake your
ideals, not even for a moment. And
that is the very reason you must
help me reclaim my rightful place
as king.

MACDUFF smiles at him, doesn’t know what to say. SIWARD walks

into the room. MALCOLM and MACDUFF turn to face him.

MALCOLM (CONT’D)
Yes Siward, what news have you?

SIWARD
Fife is in shambles. It seems that
Macbeth has killed everyone there.

MACBETH
My wife and my children? Has he
laid his hands upon them?

SIWARD
(Hesitates.)
Yes, my lord. I’m afraid he has
killed all of them.
(Pauses.)
All of England weeps for your loss,
sir.

MACDUFF
(First silent, then bold.)
There is no time for weeping. Only
for vengeance. Macbeth will pay for
his crimes. He will pay dearly.

MALCOLM
Suit up, and let’s avenge your
children and family. Let’s bring
the Divine hammer down on Macbeth’s
evil rampage.

SIWARD
Yes, Lord Macduff. We will all
fight together, English and Scot,
and together we will return
Scotland’s throne to its rightful
heir.

EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE.

The song “WE ALL WILL FIGHT TOGETHER” is played. Dancers

include all SOLDIERS, MALCOLM, MACDUFF, and SIWARD.

SOLDIERS
Together, together, together
England's pride
Together, together, let's all to
Scotland ride
Together, were there for the true
king every time
Together, together bring justice to
this crime.

MALCOLM
Here and now, no time for
hesitation
Let no one have a doubt (yeah yeah)
We all must fight 'fore our
celebration
(MORE)

MACDUFF
Here's the prince, he'll make this

TITLE ACT 5

INT. CASTLE ROOM

MACBETH is on his throne, talking to himself, and LENNOX, who

is seated on seat nearby. He is reassuring himself that he
has nothing to fear. Camera moves in, audio fade in.

MACBETH
I don't want anymore news of who's
switching sides, let them go! It
doesn't matter, because until
Birnam Wood reaches Dunsinane, I
won't have an ounce of fear. The
spirits have told me that no man
born of woman can harm me. Attack
all you want, you English. I will
not shake with fear.

MESSENGER enters, scared to speak to MACBETH.

MESSENGER
There are ten thousand soldiers out
there, my lord.

MACBETH
Get out of here, you lily-livered
fool.
MESSENGER bows and then leaves. MACBETH rises from throne.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
Lennox! This upcoming battle. It
shall either secure me or dethrone
me.
(Pause.)
Give me my armor.

LENNOX
You do not need it, my liege.

MACBETH
I will put it on anyway.
(Thinks for a moment.)
Any news of my wife?

LENNOX
Last I heard, she was not at all
well.

MACBETH
Well then, erase her of all
ailments!

EXT. FOREST

The soldiers are dispersed throughout the forest and seem to

be preparing for the battle. MALCOLM walks around and stops
for a moment and speaks to all.

MALCOLM
Every soldier, take a branch of the
tree and shade yourself with it.
Macbeth has been abandoned by his
best, and we shall take Scotland
back.

The soldiers are seen pulling branches off of the trees and
each fumbles with them. Camera captures this commotion.

INT. CASTLE ROOM

A scream echoes through the castle. MACBETH and LENNOX rise

to their feet.

MACBETH
What is that wretched noise?
Lennox, find out!
LENNOX exits hurriedly. MACBETH worried, trying not to show.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
Fear does not even strike a chord
in my heart any longer. I am numb
to those disastrous thoughts.

LENNOX returns in the same manner. Does not want to speak.

LENNOX
Your queen my lord, she is dead.

LENNOX exits. MACBETH ponders the thought for a moment.

MACBETH
The deed must have led her to the
death.
(MORE)

MACBETH (CONT'D)
She did not have the strength I
have, a strength to live this same
old tomorrow.
(Singing)
Creeps in this petty pace
Tomorrow
From day to day
To the last syllable
Of recorded time;

And all our yesterdays

Tomorrow
Have lighted fools
And tomorrow
The way to dusty death

Out, out, brief candle!

Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow

his hour upon the stage

A MESSENGER hurries in. He is afraid to speak to the king.

MACBETH (CONT’D)
What is it?
MESSENGER
As I gazed out into the foggy
plains I could have sworn that I
saw Birnam Wood moving towards
Dunsinane.

MACBETH
Tell me you that you are lying for
if you’re wrong, you will hang.
Those wretched witches! They
said,”There will be no need to
worry until Birnam Wood reaches
Dunsinane Hill”
(Pause. Worried.)
And now, it’s happening. Sound the
alarms! Wake the sleeping soldiers!
This day, we shall die in battle.
 32.

The MESSENGER leaves in a hurry. MACBETH looks worried now.

Camera focus on his face.

BLACK OUT.

EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE.

Loud drums of the army fades in. They are not far from the
forest. Camera is moving in to focus on the army, leaves
hiding their faces. They stop.

MALCOLM
Throw those branches down and be
prepared for battle. Siward, lead
the first battle. Macduff and I
flank left and fight the remaining
forces.

SIWARD
Let’s stop Macbeth for good.

The branches go down and half of the army follows SIWARD

hurriedly to the castle. Camera watches them approach looming
castle.

INT. CASTLE ROOM

MACBETH is looking outside the window. Troops enter into the

room, led by SIWARD’S SON.

SIWARD’S SON
(Poised to attack.)
Who are you?
MACBETH
You’re worst nightmare.
(Pause for effect.)
I’m Macbeth.

SIWARD’S SON
The devil! With my sword, I’ll end
you once and for all.

MACBETH and SIWARD’S SON begin to fight but the young boy is
no match for MACBETH. He kills the son with ease and as he
takes a moment, turned around, to gloat, MACDUFF enters
hurriedly and starts to speak to MACBETH who is turned
around.

MACDUFF
Turn around fool and show your true
face, you tyrant.
(MORE)
 33.
MACDUFF (CONT'D)
My wife and children, they were
innocent people, and you killed
them. I don’t care to bring
Scotland to its knees. I only want
to see you suffer just as my family
did.

MACBETH
Ah, I do not want to fight you,
since I’ve already brought so much
heartache to your family.

MACDUFF
I will not speak to you, only
fight.

MACBETH
Well you’re wasting your time. No
man born of woman can harm me.

MACDUFF
Then I guess I am the only one who
can. I was born of a caesarean
section, I was from my mother’s
womb, untimely ripped.

MACBETH
Those wretched witches! They played
on my pride, and they won. I won’t
fight you, Macduff.

MACDUFF
Then give up, coward.

MACBETH
I will never kiss this ground in
defeat.
(Hesitates.)
Come, let us fight to the death.

They begin to fight and the battle is an intense one. They go

at it and the camera blacks out before the fight begins.

BLACK OUT.

EXT. OUTSIDE CASTLE.

Soldiers are running all around. Amidst the commotion, SIWARD

stands with MALCOLM. MALCOLM has his hand around SIWARD,
comforting him.

MALCOLM
My good Siward, your son has lost
his life in this battle.

SIWARD
(Pushing back tears)
There is no need to mourn. He died
a true soldier’s death.

MACDUFF enters from the side. He looks weary.

MACDUFF
Macbeth is dead. Malcolm you are
king now.

SIWARD
(Smiles.)
We just cannot wait for you to be
king, my good lord.

The troops begin to surround them as MACDUFF begins to sing

“HE JUST CAN’T WAIT TO BE KING.”

MACDUFF
(Singing.)
He's gonna be the greatest king,
that Scotland's ever seen

MALCOLM
Well, better than Macbeth at least
The king who was just mean

MACDUFF
He's gonna have the longest rule
Like no king had before
MALCOLM
I'm putting on my father's crown
Recapturing the Throne

MACDUFF
Well, it used to be a rather
glorious thing.

MALCOLM
Oh I just can’t wait to be king.

MACDUFF
All hail the new king

MALCOLM
Well technically its-

MACDUFF
All hail the true heir

MALCOLM
It was just prince-

MACDUFF
Now that Macbeth's fling

MALCOLM
He was just a bully-

MACDUFF
Is surely ending

MALCOLM
That's all Macduff -

MACDUFF
All the Thanes in Scotland finally
say

MALCOLM
I think I'll call you earls

MACDUFF
It's the start of a brand new day!

MALCOLM
I think it's time that all of you
Get what you do deserve

MACDUFF
Surely not new king
We all just live to fight and serve
MALCOLM
We need to call the people that
Fled from Tyrant's reign
Out of Scotland, Out of Britain
They wouldn't hang about
This reign is going to be a mighty
thing

Oh, I just can't wait to be king!

Everybody, look here

Everybody, to Scone

Everybody join me -
I'm claiming the throne

(Dead.)
Not yet.

I'll admit my rule wasn't the

finest fling

Can't believe you didn't like a

MACDUFF
(Pushing Macbeth out)
All around the world let all the
voices ring

MALCOLM

MACDUFF

MALCOLM is lifted up by soldiers. Camera zooms in on face.

ALL
To be king!
