<b>Introduction</b><br>
Business processes are the cornerstone of a sustainable business operation.
Successfully designing processes is thus paramount. However, many aspects
are involved in process design. Experience to date has revealed that it is
necessary to gain knowledge from many areas in order to perform process
analysis, design, and implementation. In this context, it is important to think
of a business process engineer as a professional whose job is to perform the
tasks associated to business process analysis, design, management,
assessment, and improvement. The business process engineer shall be
capable of analyzing the business from multiple perspectives. The role of a
business process engineer is a complex one and, for the successful
conduction of responsibilities, requires knowledge of diverse topics.<p>

Business process engineering could be considered as a discipline


incorporating diverse areas of knowledge whose aim is the analysis, design,
implementation, improvement, and management of business processes. A
business process engineer would be a person skilled and knowledgeable in
these areas to help organizations successfully perform their operations to
achieve their strategy and goals. The business process engineer shall be
capable of analyzing the business from multiple perspectives, assist in the
definition and execution of process oriented programs aimed at more
effective and efficient operation and management.<p>

Due to several reasons, these tasks had been undertaken by people with
diverse backgrounds, with similar diverse results. Business process driven
management, as well as other related business areas, has matured in the
last few years. It is time to think in a cohesive set of knowledge that a
competent individual would need to guarantee that even more successful
results could be obtained in a consistent manner.<p>
<b>Objective of the Book</b><br>
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest
empirical research findings contributing to the creation of a body of
knowledge for business process engineering. This book will be written for
professionals who want to improve their understanding of the strategic role
of business process engineering, management, and improvement within and
between organizations.<p>

<b>Target Audience</b><br>
This book will serve as a reference book of scholarly value for advanced level
students, researchers, and professionals. The target audience of this book
will be composed of advanced level students, researchers, and professionals
working in the fields of business process engineering, management, and
improvement. Moreover, the book will provide insights and support
executives concerned with how to effectively manage an organization from a
business process perspective.<p>

<b>Submission Procedure</b><br>
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before
<b>February 15, 2010</b>, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining
the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of
accepted proposals will be notified by <b>April 15, 2010</b> about the
status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are
expected to be submitted by <b>July 15, 2010</b>. All submitted chapters
will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be
requested to serve as reviewers for this project.<p>

<b>Publisher</b><br>
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group
Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group
Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science
Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. For additional
