PRESENT SIMPLE
I.

DEFINITION/
DESCRIPTION

PRESENT CONTINUOUS
I.

DEFINTION/
DESCRIPTION

The simple present in the English

Language is the present tense that
expresses a habitual action, ie,
habits, routines in daily life.

The "present continuous" of any verb is

composed of two parts: the present of the
verb to be + the "present participle" the
main verb.

II.

II.

USES/ FUNCTIONS
This tense is used to express
facts or general truths.
We also use the present simple
to talk about habits; in this
case, prayer frequency
expressions usually appears as
usually we or always.
We also use it to express
schedule or programs (such as a
theatrical program).

III.

SPECIAL FEATURES
AFFIRMATIVE

To do this simply should add an

"s" at the end of the verb in the
third person singular. The rest
of the people, does not add
anything.
NEGATIVE

USES/ FUNCTIONS

The present continuous is used to

talk about something that is
happening at the moment in which
we speak. Time expressions such as
"now", "right now" and "at the
moment" indicate the present
continuous.

We also use it to talk about

something that is happening today
but not necessarily when we speak.
In this case, time expressions as
"currently", "lately" or "these days"
are used.

We use the present continuous to

talk about something that is already
decided to be made in the near
future. Their use indicates that it is
fairly certain that will happen as
planned.

The negative conjugation is

done with the verb "to do"
