GUIDE TO PROGRAM METHODOLOGY

1. Power generation
1 The same steam to bagasse ratio calculated, at rated conditions, is used in calculating the actual
bagasse consumption at actual boiler output
2 The exhaust pressure to be entered by use (cell I11) is used by back pressure turbines as exhaust
pressure, and by pass-out turbines as extraction pressure
3 Temperature of feedwater to boilers must be entered by user: This is used for calculating the
boiler bagasse consumed at full load and this same feedwater is sent to all desuperheters as
desuperheating water
4 When there is only one HP stream, use HP1 only - Program automatically knows that let down
value entered corresponds to HP1 to exhaust. Values on HP 2 conditions must be entered as HP1
conditions or prog error
5 The amount of hot exhaust is calculated as follows: for each back pressure turbine, the actual
power output is subtracted from the actual energy input (mass steam x enthalpy inlet) to get the
energy in exhaust steam ; For pass out turbines, the actual enthalpy values of extracted steam,
read and entered by user, is used to calculate the energy in extracted steam (mass of steam
extracted x actual enthalpy of extracted steam) ; The energy in let down steam to exhaust from
either HP1 range or HP2 range is calculated. All these energies added to get total energy in HOT
exhaust steam, all mass flow added to get total mass of HOT exhaust steam, the enthalpy of hot
exhaust is obtained by dividing total energy kW by total mass T/h. This enthalpy value, together
with exhaust pressure is entered in steam tables program to get the actual temperature. A simple
energy balance determines the amount of desuperheating water required in order to bring this
HOT exhaust to saturated conditions and removed the degree of superheat

2. Condensate flashing
1 Flashing is carried out in two systems: Individual or cascade
2 Exhaust is usually taken back to boilers under pressure but program gives the possibility to flash
some or all exhaust to V1 main - As far as possible, exhaust should not be flashed to V1 pressure,
take all for boiler feedwater
3 User can select whether to include analysis of condensate flashing or not and he can also chose
the type of flashing cascade or individual - Program does the analysis automatically
4 In cascade system, exhaust (if any) is flashed to V1 in exhaust pot and the outlet condensate goes
to V1 pot, add with V1 condensate ex-2nd efect and flash together to V2 main. The procedure
goes on like this until V4
5 The values of actual condensate flow are read from sheet quin and reproduced on sheet
condensate. The programs read both cadcade and individual flashing/No flashing - On sheet
condensate, hide table as appropriate. For the utilization of these condensates and hot water,
make new tables manually for each usage and do the balance manually
