Food is more than just a filler or a way to make sure you stay healthy. For me, food can

hold specific memories and experiences. There is just something about how food can affect your
life, the way you view it, and the lessons you can learn from it.
One of the foods that holds the biggest memories for me is icing, specifically vanilla, and
cream cheese flavored. I grew up with a very health wary family, and it started very young. For
me it was normal to always be eating healthy but I always wanted that junk food. Then in fourth
grade, I met my best friend Hannah. One of the first times we ever hung out I watched her reach
into the fridge and pull out a container of icing. I asked her if we were making a cake and she
laughed and said no silly we are going to eat it. I watched her, confused, as she put some icing in
a bowl and started eating it off a spoon. She continued to offer me a spoonful from the bowl. I
put the spoon in my mouth, and the first thing that hit me was the cold metallic taste of the
spoon. Next, the icing hit my tongue, . It it was smooth, tangy, sweet, and creamy and it was the
most delicious taste to hit my mouth thus far. It felt like a bunch of fireworks hitting off the top
of my taste buds making my mouth explode with delight. It became a ritual of ours to eat the
icing almost every time we hang out. Now, whenever I taste that familiar vanilla or cream cheese
flavor I think of my best friend and the days we spent running in the back yard, swimming, and
watching television.

different questions in my head like what, or how does food
affect my life. It also raised the question about what was
your paper going to be about.
Commented [BD3]: I know what you mean but try to
explain what started young.

Another time food held a certain memory or experience with me was when I was in Italy.
I spent time in the beautiful cities of Treviso, Venice, and Bologna. While I was visiting this
country, I got to experience a whole new culture, way of living, and food. The food there was
always so fresh. You could truly tell the difference between the ways food was made there as
well the taste of it. The cheese there was so creamy and unlike any other cheese I had eaten
before. You constantly saw little farm stands where restaurants and people alike bought fresh
fruits, veggies, and meat straight from the farmer. While I was in Treviso, we visited my
grandmothers friend Jaucamo. He was the chef of a four star restaurant. My grandmother told
him that I was looking to be a chef when I grew up, which I wanted to do for the longest time,
and he took me to the back and let me watch and help him cook. He taught me about the
importance of fresh food, the love you put into your food, and the importance of knowing where
your food comes from. He talked about everyone being connected and how you should always be

the end of cooking the food I got to try all that we had made. First course was a broth soup with

fresh herbs and each spoonful packed in so much flavor. Next was the bread with a lobster
topping, it was so creamy and rich if you ate to many you wouldnt be able to finish the meal.
Next came the salad, which was a nice light touch to have in between the heavier courses. It was
fruity and crisp; he had just bought the lettuce that morning along with everything else in his
restaurant. The course after was your main entre. Mine was a creamy blue cheese pasta that was
made with fresh pasta. We had just made the dough and boiled it. The pasta had a certain texture
that I had never gotten while eating in the United States. Finally came the champagne and
dessert. The cake was light and fluffy with creamy icing with a champagne drink that paired

perfectly with it. By the end of the meal I had a whole new outlook on food and cooking, and I
have ive never forgotten the things he has taught me.
Food is a way of bonding, a way to share memories, and a way to create new experiences.
It is different everywhere you go, but the one thing that connects it is people. People and
experiences that you share with them can often times be connected to the food involved with that
day. To me, food should be appreciated for what it brings to us all the time, joy, fellowship, and
fun.

Resolution: This paper was edited by Kolton. I wrote a first draft, he fixed grammar and added
input into ideas for the paper. While working on this paper with him, it gave me a different look
on things that I would not have noticed or thought of on my own. Through this collaboration I
learned to start asking people to look over my papers so that they can give me input in order to
help better my paper.

out of food as you do.
