The format of the debate has been simplified so that all students dont have to worry about debate
technicalities. Each speaker will have to speak 5 minutes each, starting with the 1st speaker in the
government team then 1st speaker of the opposition team, and each team will take turns to deliver their
speeches. The first two speakers should present as many arguments as they can in support of the topic
they are supporting and respond to their opponents arguments by rebutting what is necessary, while
the third speakers should focus on rebuttals and summarize the debate a whole.

rounds will be awarded with an additional 20points for each round won. Each speaker will be evaluated

Theme: General Knowledge
Sample Topic: That we should ban the sale and consumption of Bluefin Tuna to prevent its extinction
Sample position by both sides
In this case, the government team would be arguing how and why banning the sale and consumption of
Bluefin tuna (an area which is provided in the reading materials) will prevent the extinction of the
species. Furthermore, they could argue that without a hardline stance, we may not be able to save the
species from extinction.

prevent its extinction. They may also point out the current efforts is already enough to prevent
extinction. Furthermore, it may hurt lead to black market that may be even worse for the efforts.
