(C) Identify the difference between high percentage shot and low percentage shot by comparing two different shots and why they
represent a high or low percentage. (S2.M2; MA CF #2.11; Closure)
(A) Work with classmates at their basket assigned basket appropriately. (S4.M4; MA CF #2.11; Task 3)
Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?
Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Give specific feedback, by using pinpointing and corrective specific feedback when needed.
2. Reduce wait time by having smooth transitions and plenty of activity time.
3. Check for understanding after demonstrating each activity by asking specific questions regarding the skill or activity that was
explained.
Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students in this class?

If there are extra basketballs they should be placed in the rack

10 min

Transition: Students will stand back to back with a partner, pairs of

partners will be sent to a basket with a ball- the student who is older will go
get a basketball.
Task 1: Shooting Form Practice- Partner Rebounding
Informing:

There will be 5 hot spots at each hoop

Students will work with a partner using BEEF and shoot 3 set shots,
from each of the spots and then move to the next open spot
Students will start out without their guide hand on the ball
Once partners have gone to all of the spots they will switch jobsshooter becomes the rebounder, rebounder becomes the shooter
Their second turn around they can add the guide hand
The third time around the partner will assess their partners shooting
from all 5 spots using the BEEF rating scale (when their partner is
assessing them they will get their own rebound- and only shoot one
shot from each hot spot

Extension: If students are making shots easily they can take a step back
from the hot spot, or students can take a step in if they are having trouble.
Transition: Students will make a pile of hot spots away from their hoop
and sit around the center court, they will put all basketballs away except for
two. In each group one person will collect the partner assessments and put
those partner assessments on the table.
Task 2: Lay Up Practice

Students will make two layup lines at the 3rd hash mark of the key:
-Student demonstration at central basket
- Left side will bounce pass to the shooting line they will take 1.5
steps and complete a layup from the right side
- Passing side gets the rebound
- Shooting side goes to the rebounding line
- After 3 min of lay ups on the right side they will switch sides
Motivational Objective: How many lay ups can you personally make in a
row? How many lay ups can your team make in a row?
Extensions: Based upon, observation groups may be moved back to the
elbow, where they can add a dribble to their layup
Extension: Switch sides- non-dominate hand .
1 min

Transition: Students will go back sit at their hoop and turn to the center
hoop for a student demo.

Task 4: Shooting Team Competition- High Percentage vs. Low

10 min Percentage
-

At each basket each team will create a line 5 steps back from the
foul line (there will be two teams at either basket- one on each
side)
During this game you have a choice of where you can shoot from
where you shoot from will determine the number of points that
your team gets:
o Inside the key 1 point
o Outside the key 2 points

*Will identify what the key is

When it is your turn you can dribble to whatever spot you would
like to shoot from, after you shoot you get your own rebound and
pass the ball to the next person in line, and run back to your line
High Percentage vs. Low Percentage Shots- you have a choice,
is it worth the risk!
Students will be challenged to complete task for 3 minutes
In a game of basketball you will have the same choice
Keep track of your own points

Accommodations: Point values will be written on the board.

3 min

Motivational Objective- Can you beat your score from the first 3
minutes, have groups strategize about what type of shots they are taking.
Extension: Students must include some type of dibbling move before the
shoot, cross over, behind the back through the legs. You cannot shoot from
the same spot twice.
Transition: Students will sit in the center circle.

4 min

Closure:
(C) What does BEEF mean? (Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow Through)
(C) What is the difference between a high percentage shot and low
percentage shot? (High percentage- lay up, low percentage- three pointer)
(A) Comment on teamwork on communication.
(P) Comment on shooting form and shot selection in first game vs. second
game.
Transition: Students will go to the locker room to get changed.
