Mineral resources in Norway

The mining and quarrying industry comprises companies
engaged in extracting and processing minerals and rocks
from bedrock or superficial deposits.
Five categories of raw materials are distinguished:

industrial minerals (e.g. limestone, quartz, olivine

and nepheline syenite)
Building
materials

natural stone
(e.g. larvikite, granite and flagstone)
raw materials for construction (sand, gravel,
crushed rock and clay)
metallic ores (iron, nickel and titanium oxide)
energy minerals (coal and peat)

Norwegian mining and quarrying industry in 2010

1200 producers
5500 employees
