Concrete Tile Design Competition

Competition Guidelines
Domus and KAZA Concrete are offering established and aspiring designers the unique opportunity
to have their tile design realised, manufactured and promoted.
The brief is simple - design us a range of unique, decorative, concrete wall tiles which are practical
and yet aesthetically pleasing, utilising KAZAs ability to produce 3D textured surfaces.
The winning entry will become part of the KAZA Signature collection and the design will be
manufactured in early 2015. The winning designs will be promoted by Domus and KAZA and the
product will be credited to the designers name. An installation will be included in one of our Domus
London showrooms.
Size guidelines - for practical reasons please dont design tiles less than 3cm x 3cm, and the
maximum size of one tile should be 40cm x 60cm. Tiles should be between 0.5cm-5cm thickness.
Remember that excessive thickness leads to excessive weight.
Shape - Although classic shapes are most welcome, KAZAs technology allows for tiles of any
conceivable shape. A design may consist of many differently shaped tiles which if put together form
a homogenous surface.
Pattern, relief, texture - any detailed pattern or texture can be accommodated.
Colour - one single tile should be one single colour from the KAZA colour library www.kazaconcrete.com/collection/colours.html. Any pattern on a tile cannot be a different colour
from the colour of the tile as colour pigments are mixed into the concrete material. Colour variation
can be applied on multiple tiles within a tile design set.
Inspiration - bear in mind the much debated idea of form before function, and really think about
the material - what can you do with concrete that you cannot do with other materials?
Judging panel - a short list will be compiled by Sam Frith (designer of KAZA tile Wa) and then
judged by a panel of experts including: Ab Rogers (Ab Rogers Design), Narinder Sagoo (Foster +
Partners), Daniel Campbell (Stiff + Trevillion) and Morag Myerscough (Studio Myerscough).
Further inspiration can be found on the KAZA Concrete website or you can visit the DOMUS W1
