My favorite movie
“Up” is the most recent movie released from Pixar Animation Studios. It is a
masterpiece that has to be respected and loved. Some people said that is only a good
movie, and nothing else. However, I will tell you why “Up” is one of the best movies
nowadays, and one of my favorites too.
First of all, “Up” has a simple and beautiful story. The storytelling is easy to
understand for everybody, there’s a reason and consequence for every action. And
also there’s a beginning, development and conclusion for every main character of the
plot. Moreover, the movie is brilliant because there is a lack of dialogue, but still
people can identify and understand only by the situation and the actions. This movie
experiments on the audience with a big list of emotions that even if you don’t want to,
you feel identified. I don’t like “pink” stories but when you watch it, “Up” can touch
your heart.
Well, if it’s a CGI movie what about the visual effects? The answer is simple:
“Up” has an amazing VFX. Pixar’s productions are very high quality animated
movies and you can see this in older works such as “Ratatouille” and “Wall-E”. A
great example can be appreciated in the old man Carl Fredricksen, whose clothes are
really close to textures in real life. Another point we have is that it’s Pixar’s first 3D
movie; you can see depths and detail in each frame that pops up from the screen, after
you see the action you lose your breath. This movie improved the animation industry
with new computer animation algorithms. In this case, the set of algorithms that
involved the movement of each balloon, which, believe me or not, were independent
in animation and had the real physics motion as in real life. As you can see, the
animation of the whole movie was a step forward in the industry.
A movie with good story and amazing visual effects is not complete without
nice music, camera management and good voices, and “Up” has these things and
more. The music director, Michael Giacchino, achieved telling a story without any
dialogue, and the most clear example is in the 4 minute sequence were Mr. and Mrs.
Fredricksen meet each other. As the music practically gave life to the movie, the
camera management was very accurate because of the photography director, who took
care of each frame in the scenes. And finally actor voice’s as critics said, fit perfectly
to each character, because they gave laughs in funny moments and seriousness when
the scene needed. From my point of view “Up” movie achieves a boundary with any
kind of audience.
As you can see, “Up” has a well-developed story; amazing effects that still
surprises us in difficult times and great elements such as music and camera
management. My verdict is that you should appreciate this movie for all these things,
because in one way or the other it makes contact with audience and believe it or not
“Up” has reached the title of a new classic movie.
