The Ian Stoutzker Prize nominations 2015

The Ian Stoutzker Prize for Outstanding Performance in

Music 2015
Criteria: the prize will be awarded by competition to the most outstanding
performer as determined by a panel of adjudicators
Eligibility: all music students registered at the Royal Welsh College of Music &
Drama (with the exception of any previous winners of the prize)

Nomination process:
1.

Competitors will be nominated on the basis of excellence by their principal

study tutor (nominations close at the end of the Autumn term each year).
Nominations will initially be passed to relevant Heads of Department.

2.

Heads of Department may make additional nominations from students

within their department.

3.

Complete list of nominees published (December/January).

Competition process:
First Round: Monday February 23rd from 12.00 (WG) / Friday February 27th
from 2pm (CRR)
All nominees will be heard in a performance typically of between 6 and 8
minutes by a panel consisting of at least THREE members of college music staff.
The First Round will take place before the end of the Spring term. Typically,
between 6 and 8 competitors will go through to the semi-final stage.
Semi-final: Thursday March 19th at 7pm (Dora Stoutzker Hall)
This will be a public event in the Dora Stoutzker Hall. Competitors will present a
programme of between 15 and 18 minutes (with keyboard accompaniment).
Repertoire must be different from that used during the First Round. The panel will
normally consist of at least one external adjudicator and two members of college
staff (who were not involved in the First Round). The semi-final will normally take
place during the latter part of the Spring term or the first few weeks of the
Summer term. Typically, 3 or 4 competitors will go through to the final stage.
Final:
This will be a public event in the Dora Stoutzker Hall in June or July. Competitors
will present a programme of between 30 and 35 minutes, which may include
repertoire presented during earlier stages of the competition. The performance
may be accompanied by any instrumental forces appropriate to the venue. The
panel will normally consist of three or four external adjudicators. Typically there
will be one prize-winner, who will receive a cash prize plus a number of public
performance engagements.
