SCOPE
1.1
General
This specification covers the minimum technical requirements for the design,
manufacture, and testing of mechanically induced air flotation units. For a specific
flotation unit, this specification shall be used in conjunction with the project
specifications and data sheets for that flotation unit. Any exceptions to the
requirements of this specification shall be submitted in writing for resolution by the
COMPANY.
1.2
Item Definition
Flotation units separate solids and oil from produced water prior to disposal and
include as minimum: the tanks, rotors, skimmers, electric motor drivers, level
controller, and breather valves necessary to process and control the flow of treated
water.

Process Design
3.1.1
The gas flotation unit is used to remove oil and suspended solids from
effluent water produced by oil and gas processing facilities. The unit
employs mechanically induced gas flotation for the separation process.
The mechanism shall include motor-driven rotors and skimmer paddles.
3.1.2
Gas bubbles are dispersed in the oily water stream by a vortex set up by
the mechanical rotors. Oil particles and suspended solids attach to the gas
bubbles as they rise to the surface. The skimmer paddles will then remove
the oil and suspended solids from the gas flotation unit.
3.1.3
Oil in the water may be in the form of fine emulsion. The produced water
enters the gas flotation unit from a corrugated plate interceptor (CPI) by
means of gravity flow.

Mechanical Design
3.2.1
The gas flotation unit shall be installed above ground, mounted on an oil
field type steel skid to rest on a concrete pad.
3.2.2
The unit shall include emulsion breaker storage tank and injection pump
mounted on the gas flotation unit provided by the Vendor.

Vendor shall state the location of the fabrication yard for inspection
purpose.
4.2.2
4.2.3
4.2.4
Before the packaged unit is shipped, Vendor shall assemble all items
together as a "system" and shall carry out tests to prove each item as a
part of the system.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
5.1
General
Documentation requirements shall be as specified in MEP-G-ES-001,
General Technical Conditions for Tender and Purchase of Equipment and
Materials, and the following additional requirements.
5.2
Specific
5.2.1
Upon submittal of a bid, the Vendor shall furnish complete water treatment
equipment specification, including basic dimensions, weights, motor data,
utility consumption, retention time, and other pertinent data required to
evaluate the operation of the flotation unit.
5.2.2
