Conspiracy: Theories
Conspirer: The Government
The belief that our own government is against us is not a thought based around rebellion,
or our retaliation against authority, but rather around an attempt for answers to justify, or account
for the innumerable theories we present to them. These theories are mostly left unanswered, for
new ones are persistently presented, so we are left with the feeling we are being betrayed by a
deceitful government, our government. Conspiracies are an attempt, made up my society, to
answer some of the most complex questions that have gone unanswered for centuries. Dating as
far back as early as 1662, in Hartford, Connecticut, with accusations that led to convictions, and
ultimately, executions of members of society. Identifying these witches was a social process, a
means by which people controlled society and punished antisocial elements (Van Arragon
739). There was a pattern of, untidy business transactions at the root of the accusations, and
reflected local tensions between neighbors (Van Arragon 739). The most vulnerable members of
society seemed to be, women who, purposefully, or not, refused to accept their place in society,
and were eligible for inheritances (Van Arragon 740). What is the conspiracy? Interest in an
emerging medical field. Witch hunts, were used by a male medical profession to eliminate
competition from midwives (LiBrizzi 640). People quickly came to the conclusion that the
scale and reach of the accusations, mean that the outbreak was all a delusion (Van Arragon 740).

The point I am getting to is this, for as long as society has existed the elite have used their wealth
as power to manipulate individuals, groups, events, etc., so that whatever benefit of the outcome
is to their advantage only. This example was one of the first conspiracies that the elite of a
society used to their advantage. Today, talk of conspiracies by, the greatest conspirer: the
government (Driscoll and Finley 2), are communicated more rapid than ever thanks to social
media. The questions that are up to receive, evidence-based answers revolve around: the 9/11
terrorist attacks that resulted in the Iraq war, lies and deceit from past Presidents, and their
administration, operations and experiments of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the role of
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), or New World Order, fluoridation, the origin
of AIDS, and knowledge of extraterrestrial existence.
Alex Jones is a host for an Austin, Texas-based radio show that includes him voicing his
strong opinions on government deception. Among his recent claims are that, President Barack
Obama isnt a U.S. citizen (Katel 887). The term birthers is used to describe Americans that,
believe Obama has engaged in a decades-long deception about his place of birth (Katel 888). It
is assumed that, Obama is conspiring against the well-being of America (Katel 891). As a
result a bill was proposed that would require all, presidential candidates to provide birth
certificates (Katel 889).
The terrorist attacks that struck the U.S. on September 11, 2001, when two planes crashed
into the World Trade Center (WTC), and the Pentagon, as well as United Airlines flight 93 that
crashed in a Pennsylvania field, have brought forth a plethora of conspiracy theories (Morris
648). The reason for so many theories is due to the controversy surrounding President George W.
Bushs decision to invade Afghanistan instead of Saudi Arabia, the country of origin for fifteen
of the attackers (Driscoll and Finley 8). The terrorist organization, al-Qaida, were responsible

for the plot carried out on September 11th, and an investigation by the U.S. Pentagon returned
results that, Saddam Hussein had no links to al-Qaida (Driscoll and Finley 8). This brings forth
the belief that Osama Bin Laden was not the mastermind behind the attacks, suggesting instead
that they were a plot by the Bush administration to discredit Muslims and justify greater world
domination (Morris 649). Celebrities have come forward voicing their opinion on the possibility
that our government is deceiving us. For example, actor Charlie Sheen, a supporter of the socalled truther movement, which claims that airborne terrorists couldnt have inflicted the
damage done by the Sept. 11 attacks and that, consequently, there must have been some degree
of government involvement (Katel 887). Sheen went on to say, The official 9/11 story is an
absolute fairy tale, a work of fiction.
At the heart of U.S. conspiracy theories is where the CIA, or Criminal Intelligence
Agency can be found. The CIA was created by the National Security Act of 1947. The purpose of
the CIA is to acquire intelligence relevant to U.S. strategic interests (Kuzmick 155).
