Program (BSSM) is to prepare and introduce
the future leaders of the golf industry. BSSM
program includes courses in golf instruction,
golf operations, tournaments and other sports
oriented courses related to golf.

HISTORY AND RULES OF GOLF


This course provides the student with an
in-depth study of the history and rules of
golf. The course traces golf from its roots
in St. Andrews, Scotland, to the present
time. Other topics include an introduction
to the rules of golf, trends in golf industry,
golf associations, public/private golf
courses and possible career paths.

TURF GRASS FUNDAMENTALS


This course provides the opportunity
for students to learn different types
of turf grasses used on todays golf
courses along with routine and nonroutine maintenance practices.
Additional topics covered include soil
properties, irrigation, proper selection
of type of grass, water quality and
common weeds.

CLUB FITTING AND


REPAIR

This course provides a


clear understanding of
the complicated and
misunderstood field of
custom club fitting.
The course emphasizes the
fundamentals of club design
and the manufacture of golf
clubs. Students learn how
to properly fit and repair
clubs to the needs of the
customer.

GOLF SWING
MOTION ANALYSIS

This course helps the


student improve his or her
golf swing through video
motion analysis software
under the supervision of
the instructor. It provides
powerful, effective, and
immediate feedback to
the students specifically on
clubhead path, swing planes,
speed planes, and balance.

GOLF TEACHING
METHODS

This course engages the


student in applying different
methods in teaching golf.
Emphasis is on identifying
golf training skills, needs
among participants and
developing training modules
for progressive levels, i.e.,
basic to advanced. Students
will also be exposed to
teaching techniques from
todays top golf instructors.

GOLF PSYCHOLOGY

This course provides a student


with knowledge of the human
brains function as it relates to
general motor activities and
golf in particular. The student
will learn to strengthen his
or her mental golf game by
learning the psychological make
up of a professional athlete.
Topics will include psychological
methods, development,
learning, and memory,
motivation and social factors.

COUNTRY CLUB MANAGEMENT
This course covers the role of the general
manager of a country club. Topics include:
supervision, management, operations,
personnel, public relations, budgeting and
membership. The student also will have the
opportunity to gain a basic understanding
between the Home Owners Association
and a golf facility.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE


MANAGEMENT

This course provides an overview of


food and beverage operations and
management. Topics include careers,
equipment layout and dcor, menu
planning, management development,
staffing, customer service, purchasing,
receiving, and storage.

TOURNAMENT PLANNING

This course is designed to introduce and describe


the critical elements involved in tournament
planning. Areas of emphasis will be: Tournament
development, tournament planning, day of event
assignments, different types of tournaments,
different types of handicaps used in tournament
play, rules in tournament play, tournament
software and logistical concerns when holding
large tournaments.

THE SCORING GAME MANAGEMENT

This course is designed for intermediate students


who are already familiar with short game swing
fundamentals. Students will be able to focus on
learning the short game including chipping, lobs,
pitches, distance wedges, bunker play and putting.
This class will capture data and statistics obtained
through practice and participation to shoot lower
scores.

Admission Evaluation
Applications will be evaluated
after we receive all documents
and admission fees. Applicants
may be asked to provide
additional evidence of academic
proficiency. Decisions typically
take 3 to 4 weeks. Once your
application has been approved,
we will issue a Letter of
Acceptance and mail the Form
I-20* (Certificate of Eligibility for
Nonimmigrant Status) from a
CALUMS designated school official
(DSO). If youre an international
student, proceed to Step 3.

Official transcripts must be requested from


all colleges or universities previously attended
and sent directly to CALUMS in the originally
sealed university envelope. Transcripts in
foreign languages must be officially translated
in English.

Proof of English Proficiency*

Original Financial Statement*

Official financial (bank) statement is required


to prove that you have the adequate funds to
support your education in the United States.
Minimum required amount is $27,000 and
additional $4,500 for each dependent.
Bank statement must be drawn from
your financial institution on a letterhead
signed by an authorized bank official. This
statement must include the total amount
stated above.
If you have a sponsor who will cover your
expenses, you must fill out the Affidavit
for Financial Responsibility form, signed by
both the applicant and the sponsor.

If English is not your native language, you must


submit Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) or International English Language
Testing System (IELTS) taken not more than
2 years from the date of application. If no
TOEFL or IELTS score is submitted, you will
be required to take an English Proficiency
test upon your arrival in CALUMS. If you dont
pass the test, you will have to take English
Development classes until demonstrating
acceptable English proficiency.
