Goldfish

Carassius auratus

Goldfish have been extensively bred to bring out beautiful colors and unusual
characteristics. Fancy goldfish can have remarkable eyes, elongated fins, or caps
on their heads. Goldfish originated in China and are hardy coldwater fish. They do
not require extra heating to survive. Recommended for beginning aquarists.

Housing

Goldfish should be kept in an appropriate size aquarium

Goldfish typically need more than one gallon per fish inch to maintain good water quality
Water temperature should range from 64 F. to 72 F.
Do not keep goldfish in tropical aquariums; they are more comfortable in water with lower
temperatures
They may outgrow their tank mates and produce more waste than other fish
Stable water quality, water temperature, and pH levels are critical to the health of fish.
If you are unsure of your water quality or pH levels, PETCO provides free water testing.
