COMMUNIQUE

OFFER OF SCHOLARSHIPS UNDER THE NEW ZEALAND


DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME FOR POST
GRADUATE COURSES FOR 2016
The Government of New Zealand is providing Development
Scholarships (NZDS) to targeted countries in Africa including Mauritius,
that offer the opportunity to undertake studies at postgraduate level in
tertiary education institutions in New Zealand.
The Scholarships Scheme aims at strengthening sustainable
economic development in Africa by contributing to human resource
development particularly in agriculture and geothermal development.

Type and Level of Scholarships

NZDS are awarded for full-time, postgraduate level study (i.e.


Postgraduate Certificates, Diplomas and Masters degrees) starting in
2016.

Eligibility criteria and information on the NZDS

Applicants for the scholarships must meet the generic eligibility criteria
before their application will be considered against the selection criteria,
including any criteria specific to Africa. The Scholarships are directed
to public sector, private sector and civil society (including NGO)
candidates who independently apply for a scholarship, and who meet
the eligibility and selection criteria.
Preference will be given to
applicants from disadvantaged communities.

Application process and closing dates of applications

Information and Application Form

NZDS candidates should apply directly to one of the ten eligible


New Zealand Education Institutions after ensuring that they meet the
New Zealand Scholarship eligibility criteria.

scheme, application forms and the list of the participating New Zealand
education institutions is available at:

The process is detailed below:


(i)

The applicant can obtain an Offer of Place (letter of admission)


from their chosen NZ University and submit this with the
scholarship application form and other required documents to
the New Zealand Government by 31 July 2015. Applications
may be couriered direct to the New Zealand Government in

Wellington New Zealand, or sent via the applicants nearest


Embassy or High Commission for passing on to Wellington.
(ii)

An alternative process is to submit the scholarship application


form to the New Zealand University at the same time as
seeking an Offer of Place, and the university will pass it on to
the New Zealand Government.
For this process, it is
recommended that applications reach the university by 30
April 2015 to allow time for processing the request for
admission and passing on to the New Zealand Government by
31 July 2015.
