MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS
TECHNOLOGY

SAFETY

Contributing towards the development

of Malaysia's automotive industry with
Toyota's latest technology.

Ensuring 100% safety is our top priority.

Safe practices are incorporated into our daily operations,
including assembly and manufacturing plants, vehicle
and parts distribution centres, sales and service centres,
and throughout the company.

The most advanced facilities and expertise which meet

Toyota's global standards have been implemented at the
UMW Toyota Motor group's manufacturing companies to
produce the latest products and services.
Our people have been professionally trained and
equipped to handle the demands of Toyota's global
standards. Our investment in human resources and
facilities is a continuous endeavour. This allows us to
contribute to the development of the automobile
manufacturing industry in Malaysia.

Our employees are trained in safety procedures on their

first day at work, during their induction programme. Such
safety training extends throughout their career-term.
Y.A.B. Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, the then Deputy Prime Minister
of Malaysia, officiating the Toyota Hiace export ceremony in 2006.

At pre-shift meetings, the first topic to be discussed is

safety, while regular pre-safety checks are carried out on
manufacturing equipment. The three key areas that are
prioritised include Equipment & Tools, Standardised
Work and Training & Confirmation.

Safety is our No. 1 priority.

Training in all three key areas is enhanced via KYT

(Kiken Yochi Training, which means training for the
prediction of danger), periodical audits and suggestion
schemes. Genchi-Genbutsu (Experience, Observe and
Analyse) is also a fundamental part of the accident
prevention process.

Export of Hiace vehicles to Thailand started in 2006, and

this is a clear indication of the widespread preference
towards our Made-in-Malaysia Toyota vehicles, even
outside the country.

QUALITY

In addition, the safety of our staff is of utmost

importance to the company, and regular campaigns are
held to increase the awareness and skills of staff in
keeping safe on the road.

Regular safety campaigns are carried out.

Delivering only the best through Kaizen

activities by all the team members.
The legendary reputation of Toyota vehicles for reliability
is the result of Toyota Motor Corporation's passion for
quality and focus on customers. At each stage of the
manufacturing process, we take every step to ensure
quality is secured.
We have instilled the Quality and Kaizen mindset
amongst our employees following the Toyota Way
culture and values. This enables us to continue to provide
our customers with quality products and services that
Toyota has been long known for.
Quality control at every stage to ensure Toyota standards are met.

Our Toyota vehicle quality achievements have been

recognised by the JD Power Survey for Initial Quality
Study (IQS). The IQS serves as the industry's benchmark
for new vehicle quality, both in design and production
(defects/malfunctions).
The results of the JD Power Survey for IQS are testament
to our consistent achievements in meeting the mark of
good quality and design innovation.

TOYOTA PRODUCTION SYSTEM (TPS)

Maximising the strength of TPS.
Our manufacturing plant applies the famous Toyota
Production System (TPS). Based on the basic concepts of
Just-in-Time (JIT) and Jidoka, the TPS can efficiently and
quickly produce vehicles of sound quality, one at a time.
In delivering innovative and quality products to our
customers with the shortest possible lead time, we start
with 5S: Seiri (Sort out), Seiton (Arrange), Seiso (Clean &
Shine), Seiketsu (Standardise) and Shitsuke (Discipline),
with the viewpoint of reducing Muri (Overburden), Muda
(Wastage) and Mura (Irregularities). Kaizen activities are
also carried out continuously throughout the factory.

our investment strategy for the necessary equipment,
based on the Toyota Production System (TPS).

We will continue to play a role in the development of

the auto parts industry by introducing the Toyota

(TPS) to our auto parts suppliers.
Conference with Toyota parts suppliers.

Step by step, our suppliers' capabilities have been

improving, while the export of auto parts by our
suppliers to factories outside Malaysia has also been
increasing every year. Likewise, our local content ratio
has been gradually increasing with each year.
The stamping of Vios body parts began at Toyota Auto
Body (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (TABM) in 2007. Through
these stamping operations, we were able to realise
body precision improvements and contribute these
developments to the local industry. As part of our plans,
we will continue to further expand our body parts
stamping operations.

Suppliers have to meet our exact requirements and specifications.

Personalising care for our customers.
Lexus Showrooms are inspired by Omotenashi (treat),
where each customer is personally assisted by a
customer relationship executive, a product consultant
and a service technician at the relevant touch-points.
Although owning a luxury car is often only viewed as a
symbol of dignity, at Lexus we seek to deeply enrich
people's minds, while ensuring the wellbeing of our
community and environment.
The Lexus Showroom Lounge allows our customers to
relax or work as they choose, while they view the
various Lexus models on display. Hence, the entire

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES

Toyota has been at the forefront of finding eco-friendly

solutions for an increasingly environment-conscious world.
Toyota introduced the worlds first mass-produced hybrid
car, the Toyota Prius, in 1997.

Creating a sustainable environment.

We place environmental preservation high on our list of
priorities. Guided by the Toyota Environmental Action
Plan, we set targets and we have achieved reduction of
carbon dioxide emissions for logistic activities and our
assembly facility. Packaging material for parts has been
designed to reduce wastage, and hazardous wastes are
managed to ensure compliance with Environment Quality
(Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005.
In 2009, our assembly facility, Assembly Services Sdn. Bhd.
(ASSB), celebrated its 10th year of being ISO 14001 certified,
an internationally-recognised standard for environmental
management systems. Similarly, all our Service Centres have
been ISO 14001 certified since 2006.

Under the Toyota Save The Forest programme, volunteers tend to

seedlings before they are taken to the forest for replanting .

Notably, Toyota engines have been engineered to

provide efficient fuel consumption and low exhaust
emissions. Our Environment, Safety & Health Policy has
been communicated to all staff members to ensure a
consistent mindset at all levels.

Since its introduction, the Toyota Prius has proven to be

the most popular hybrid car in the world, with
worldwide sales exceeding the 2 million mark as of end
September 2010. The Toyota Prius is the realisation of
Toyotas dream of contributing to a sustainable
environment through futuristic design and innovative
technologies. In recognition of this, the Toyota Prius has
won numerous prestigious awards internationally for
eco-friendliness and design excellence.
The Toyota hybrid system combines different power
sources (a petrol engine and an electric motor) to maximise
efficiency while significantly reducing unwanted emissions.
Together with the use of eco-friendly and recyclable
materials, Toyotas hybrid cars have fulfilled the goal of
creating products that are in harmony with the environment.
The Lexus LS 600h L and the Lexus RX 450h, full hybrid
luxury vehicles, were introduced to Malaysia in 2010 by
Lexus Malaysia. Subsequently, the Lexus CT 200h was
added to the hybrid line-up in 2011.

To reinforce this commitment, internal activities have

been initiated, such as the Toyota Save The Forest
programme, the annual environment month and nationwide
recycling compaigns.

We hope to realise our dream to see more hybrid

vehicles on Malaysian roads in the future.
