ST202 WidthVIEW

Measurement of slab profile and width is achieved by using

Sequence Technologies ST202 WidthVIEW laser systems
during the continuous casting or rolling process. These noncontact measurement systems are resourceful tools in
monitoring the result of complex changes in the steel making
process and can assist in minimizing quality issues by
providing an early warning of out of tolerance slab dimensions.
As the slab shape varies with changes in parameters such as
cast speed, cooling and steel temperature, the ST202 is an
effective solution for immediate feedback to operations and
quality personnel.

Measurement Principle
The ST202 uses two triangulation sensors that measure shape and width by
projecting a vertical beam of laser light on the slab edge. The profile is
calculated from the image pixel data using the systems proprietary software.

The ST202 WidthVIEW is a non-contact laser

system designed to accurately measure slab narrow
face profile, width and thickness in order to optimize
control of slab dimensions. The ST202 uses two
high speed profile lasers and proprietary software to measure
up to three times faster than other non-contact methods and
more accurate than mechanical calipers. The sensors
measure ten complete edge profiles per second. This sample
rate enables the system to accurately measure profile while
tracking any vertical movement of the slab due to casting
process variables. Unlike other profile systems which use
complex optics and moving components, Sequence
Technologies profile lasers contain no moving parts,
enhancing reliability in harsh steel mill environments.

The PC user interface continuously measures and graphically

displays the edge profile, minimum and maximum widths,
thickness, and important system parameters. Customers may
interface with the ST202 system through typical third party
client software such as RSLinx or Kepware for long term
quality assurance reviews.
