TURRET BEARING DEFLECTION MONITORING

ST310 BearingVIEW

Non-contact bearing deflection measurement is achieved

using the ST310 BearingVIEW system from Sequence
Technologies. Periodic testing of large diameter bearings is
typically performed by cumbersome manual measurements
using dial indicators. Sequence Technologies has solved by
developing a precise laser based method for measuring
deflection which saves time and eliminates potential safety
hazards associated with confined space regulations.
The ST310 BearingVIEW uses a pair of triangulation
laser sensors, portable data acquisition hardware
and proprietary software to safely measure turret
bearing deflection. Two ST203-1 laser sensors,
mounted in air purged protective enclosures inside the turret,
are positioned on brackets which allow them to continuously
measure bearing deflection at all times. Cables connect the
sensors to the ST300 DatAQ portable data acquisition system
and laptop, which can be located out of harms way.
The interactive software running on the laptop allows the
operator to measure deflection samples one at a time, or
automatically over an extended period up to 24 hours. In
addition to the displacement results from the lasers,
accelerometers may be used in conjunction to gain further
insight to the health of the bearing.

KEY FEATURES

Non-contact displacement measurements

Record and view live measurements
Save and review historical data on the PC

Designed for industrial applications

Rugged, mill-duty components
Analyze laser displacement along with accelerometer
frequency data on one system

Measurement Principle
The ST310 uses two highly accurate triangulation laser sensors to measure
deflection of the bearing as loading occurs. Laser measurements are taken
manually or autonomously for extended periods.

Operational Overview
Empty ladle is set on outboard arm and rotated 180 degrees
Lasers are zeroed out and the outboard arm is now loaded with weight
Lasers measure bearing deflection and software displays results
Procedure is repeated for the other arm

BENEFITS

Eliminate unreliable recording of dial indicators

Comply with confined space Safety Regulations
Facilitate ISO certification
