NSU community thanks employees

Kelsey Pipes
TNE Writer
The employees at NSU willingly put in a lot of hours and late nights to make sure the students
receive the best possible treatment while pursuing a higher education. Though the employees do
not ask to be recognized the NSU community has created the Employee Recognition Program to
thank all employees for their hard work.
The Employee Recognition Program is an opportunity for faculty and staff to be recognized for
their dedication and contributions they make to the university, said Kirsti Cook, special assistant
to the president. This is a time to recognize retirees, years of service to NSU and awards such as
Model the War and STAR awards among many others.
During this time of celebration, employees also have a chance to propose grants to the board by
submitting an application prior to the event explain the value and purpose of their cause and how
it could improve the experience for students at NSU.
Employees submit an application with a detailed budget and purpose for their grant along with a
statement on how this grant would better them professionally and also positively impact NSU,
said Peggy Glenn, NSU director of development.
Most employees appreciate the way NSU is attempting to recognize the hard work that is put for
on a daily basis and being recognized only makes them want to work a little harder.

I feel that everyone wants to be appreciated and I know NSU is taking great initiative to make
sure that the faculty and staff here feel appreciated and validated for doing such a great job every
year, said Tricia Price, NSU study abroad coordinator.
For the committee in charge of putting the Employee Recognition Program together, they get the
special opportunity to learn about the wide range of talents brought forth from the employees.
This allows for the committee to put the program together in such a way that it honors all aspects
of the employees at NSU.
I enjoy reviewing the wide variety of requests from faculty and staff, from which I learn more
about what these employees do for NSU and what resources they find, said Glenn. But most
of all, I enjoy connection the recipients with the donors who have funded the Presidents
Ambassadors Network so they learn first-hand what a difference NSU is making in our region
and beyond.
There are many things to look forward to at the Employee Recognition Program including prizes
and awards; however the fellowship of employees coming together to celebrate will be the theme
of the program.
Not only am I looking forward to recognizing the hard work of the deserving faculty and staff, I
am most enthusiastic about seeing the NSU community come together in celebration, said
Cook. Seeing everyone join together to celebrate as a family and enjoy their time is so
rewarding.
