FROM BADAUN TO BAGHDAD

(A short-livedjourney of a Martyr)
TAMHEED (A brief introduction)
Shaikh Usaidul Haqs life and his work is an enormously vast
subject. I dont consider myself capable enough of writing a
biography of such a legendary personality and my mind is also
not in a steady state to pen down anything, because, the fact that
he has left us has still not sunk in. Although, I bathed his body,
performed his salatul Janaza, and eventually buried him, it still
feels like he is sitting in the Library, perusing some book and
writing his views on that book or writing an article on a new
editorial from Jaam-e-Noor OR if he is free from the books, then
probably he would be talking to Maulana Khushtar Noorani or
Dr. Ahmed Mujtaba Siddique on the phone, but the reality is
something else. Now that he is not present amongst us, it is
difficult for me(someone who is less educated) to rejuvenate his
memories.
Habitually, every time the pen makes me write Madda
Zilluhu and Zeeda Majduhuafter Shaikh Saahabs name. Now
to erase that and write Rehmatullahi Alaih is not encouraging
for me. The Journey from Madda Zillahu to Rehmatullahi
Alaih is repressed in so many tears that the one who was always
referred as a heartthrob and beloved cannot outline the journey.
Anyway, after repeated requests from our dear and beloved,
Maulana Khushtar Noorani, I am going to present some brief
facts of Shaikhs life to you in this excerpt, as advised by Maulana
Khushtar Noorani.
When hadnt even thought that nature (Qudrat) has bestowed
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) simple life with so many colors,
3

a young man with a simple dress and a white cap had so many
colorful aspects to himself and that I realize now, when I are
writing about him.Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) life projects
a wealth of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge to the
masses. The enthusiasm with which he acquiredabundant
knowledge, in a similar way he didnt just conveythe knowledge
but also ensured comprehensive dissemination of knowledge to
the masses. My beloved teacher, Imam e Ilm-o-Fun, Hazrat
Khwaja Muzaffar Hussain (Alaihir-rahma) used to say this,
Zeenat hona kuch aur hain, aur Haq adaa karna aur (To be
the beauty of some work is something else and to master that
work is something else). He used give an example that in a
function, the beauty of the stage/podium is held by one; but the
function is prosperous because of someone else.
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) Islamic works (Tehreer) had
attained a very high degree at a young age. His work was spoken
about everywhere and scholars with an eye to detail used to always
appreciate his work.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma), in his life span of 38 years
and 10 months did many things right from teaching, Tasneef and
Taaleef, Hajj and Umrah, visit to the holy places around the world,
he went around the whole of India in search for books and libraries,
mainly for the others after him so that they dont face any problems
in acquiring enough knowledge. He was not just a great Muhaqqiq
but also a Sufi. He was extremely generous and he had inherited
this generosity (Sakhaawat) from his great grandfather Ameerul
Momineen Sayyedana Usman Ibne Affaan (Radiallahu
Anhu). Most of his journey was spent in participating in Islamic
seminars and symposiums, delivery of lectures on various Islamic
topics, and as a judge of various competitions held in different
Islamic schools and universities.
To spread the knowledge and discipline of Islam and help the
society with their various needs (Khidmat-e-Khalq), Shaikh
Saahab has set up various institutes namely Al-Azhar Institute of
Islamic Studies, Al-Azhar Educational Human Welfare Society
and Al-Azhar Foundation (Maharashtra).
4

In spite of attaining such a high repute in the society, he was

never egoistic and conceited of his work. He was always grounded
and respectful. He used to always visit the Dargahs (Shrines of a
Saint)with a lot of faith and respect. Especially at the Dargah of
Shams-e-Marehra, Abul Fazl Aale Ahmed Huzoor Achche Miya
(Alaihir-rahma) of Marehra Shareef, he used to be extremely polite
and disciplined. In relation to Shams-e-Marehra (Alaihir-rahma)
He used to often mention the poetry (Sher) of Ghalib during his
public speech.
Zikr us pariwash ka, aur phir bayaan apna
I (the writer of this content) am Shaikh Saahabs brother, his
student and a confidant of his virtues and his secrets. I had the
opportunity to be with him during his final journey. My father
As-Shah Abdul Hameed Mohammed Salimul Qadri (Sahab-eSajjada, Aastana Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef) visits Baghdad
every year and this has been an old custom. This year, Hazrat
said that Shaikh Saahab will also visit along this year. A group of
40 visitors reached Baghdad Shareef. We visited the Shrine, and
we didnt even realize how the seven days passed swiftly over
there. All of us returned back and Shaikh Saahab has remained
there until the Day of Judgment. This is not the time to mention
the journey in detail, but In Sha Allah, we will try to pen down
the details of this journey some other time. I am not aware of the
fundamentals of writing a biography, neither am I a writer. In
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) presence, we never used to write
anything as he used to do everything. Weve never even written a
tehreer, and to write down this extreme biography is not easy. A
poet has said that
Is Ishq Ki Talaafi-e-Maafaat Dekhna
Roney Ki Hasratein Hain Jab Aansun Nahi Rahen
I know that this biography written by me will be read as:
Roney Ke Bhi Aadaab Huwa Karte Hain Faani
Yeh Unki Gali Hai Tera Gham Khaana Nahi hai
I gathered the courage to write this after realising that I am
also a part of his team. Presenting to you a short biography of his
life as follows:

Wilaadat (Birth)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma) was born on 23rd Rabiussani
1395 Hijri/ 6th of May 1975 in Maulvi Mohalla, Badaun Shareef.
Taaleem (Education)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma) opened his eyes in an
extremely well-educated and spiritual environment. The Usmania
family of Badaun shareef has an 800 year old history of its welleducated and spiritual environment;it is so profound that it doesnt
require any evidences. As a family custom, at the age of four, in
the month of Shawwal1399 Hijri during Urs-e-Qadri, his Tasmiya
Khani (It is a custom where the child is taught the primary lessons
of Tajweed and the Arabic Alphabet) took place and the lessons
of Qaidah Baghdadi were given to him by his Uncle Maulana
7

Abdul Haadi Badauni. It is important for me to

share this that before he started with Qaidah
Baghdadi, my parents had already taught him
Surah Fatiha, Surah Ikhlaas, Kalima Tayyiba
& Durood Shareef. Other than the important
recitals,
the
Children

Khanqah-e-Aaliya

two
names
very
thoroughly.

(2) Gaus-e-Zamaan Shams-e-Marehra Qiblae Jism-o-Jaan Fakhre
Khandan-e-Barakati Abul Fazl Aale Ahmed Huzoor Achche Miya
Saahab (Radiallahu anhu)
Ibtedayi Taaleem (Primary Education)
Apart from the knowledge he attained at home, Shaikh Saahab
also went to Qadri Jannat School, which is close to Jama Masjid
Shamsi, after that he also went to Mission English School, Badaun.
Hifz-e-Quran (Memorization of Quran)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma) started the course of
memorization of Quran in the Islamic month of Shawwal in the
year 1982 at Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. At that
time, the Master of Hifz-e-Quran Qari Karimullah
(Rehmatullahi Alaihi) was a teacher in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya
Badaun Shareef. In the year 1989, he completed the course of
Hifz-e-Quran. During this course, he also learned to read and
write the Urdu language from one of the teachers, Maulana
Hafiz Noor Mohammed Qibla (Alaihir-rahma).
Dars-e-Nizami Ki Ibtidaa (The commencement of course of
Dars-e-Nizami)
After the completion of the Hifz-e-Quran course, Shaikh
Saahab started the course of Dars-e-Nizamiin the month of
Shawwal, 1990. At that time, in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya many
famous teachers were working and teaching. Mainly, Imam-eElm-o-Fan khwaja Muzaffar Hussain Rizvi (Rehmatullahi Alaih),
Maulana Shaikh Rehmatullah Qadri, Mufti Mutiurrehman Muztar
Purnavi, Maulana Niyaz Ahmad Qadri, Maulana Mufti Shaheed
8

Aalam Rizvi and Maulana Infaasul Hasan Chisti.

Until the year 1993, Shaikh Saahab studied in
Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya. It was very famous
about Khwaja Saahab that he never used to stay
in any Madrasa for a long time and it was true
as well. After teaching in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya
for 2 years (this was Khwaja Saahabs longest
tenure until then in any Madrasa), he went to
Faizabad from Badaun. After this, my father
sent Shaikh Saahab to Faizabad in order to
complete the Dars-e-Nizami course under the
guidance of Khwaja Saahab.
In the year 1998, Shaikh Saahab completed the Dars-e-Nizami
course and returned to Badaun. On the auspicious occasion of
Jashn-e-Sad Saala (100thdeath anniversary of Aala Hazrat Taajul
Fuhool Badauni), the Saheb-e-Sajjada of Baghdad Shareef Peer
Sayyad Ahmad Zafar Al-Ghilani (Grand caretaker of the Dargah
of Gaus-e-Aazam, Baghdad Shareef) convocated (Dastaar bandi)
Shaikh Saahab with the Dars-e-Nizami degree.
Aala Taaleem (Superior Education)
On a Wednesday, in the month of September 1999, Shaikh
Saahab went to study at Jamia Al-Azhar Cairo, Egypt via visiting
the Dargah of Baghdad Shareef. It is important for me to mention
this here that my father wanted to get Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma) admitted in Baghdad Shareeffor higher studies. In the year
1997, when my father visited Baghdad Shareef, he told the Sahebe-Sajjada of that time, Peer Sayyed Yusuf Al-Ghilani
(Rehmatullahi Alaih) that he wants to get Usaidul Haq admitted
in Baghdad for higher studies. On this, Peer Sayyed Yusuf AlGhilani (Rehmatullahi Alaih) informed my father to get him
admitted in Jamia Al-Azhar, Cairo, Egypt. Based on his
instructions, my father got him admitted in Jamia Al-Azhar, Cairo.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) took admission in the course
of Tafseer & Uloom-e-Quran, branch of Kullia Usooluddin
and completed the course in June 2003. After that, he took up the
course of Iftaafrom August 2003 until July 2004 in the Daarul
9

Iftaaof Misr (Cairo). Upon returning from Cairo,

in the year 2008 -2009, he took up M.A. in
Uloom-e-Islamia from Jamia Millia Islamia, New
Delhi,
India.
Asaateza (Teachers)
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) first and the most influential
teacher has been his father, the Saheb-e-Sajjada of Khanqahe
Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef, whose teachings and guidance
made him an Aalim-e-Rabbani from just being an Aalim.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) got the lessons of ultimate
demeanor, patience, thankfulness, respect and
gratitude, Tawakkul (Strong faith in Allah),
Tasawwuf (The path of Sufism) from his father,
Shaikh-e-Tareeqat Abdul Hameed Mohammed Salimul
Qadri (Saheb-e-Sajjada, Aastana Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef).
After my father, Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) next teacher
worth mentioning is Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun, Khwaja Muzaffar Hussain
Rizvi Alaihir rahma(passed away in 2013). Hazrat Maulana
rehmatullah Qadri (Shaikhul Hadith, Madrasa Arabiya Madinatul
Uloom, Bhidohi), Hazrat Maulana Mufti Mohammed
Mutiurrehman Madtar Purnavi, Hazrat Mufti Infaasul Hasan
Chisti(Shaikhul Hadith, Jamia Samadiya Phaphund Shareef),
Hafiz Noor Mohammed Qadri (Passed away in 2013, a renowned
teacher of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya), Hafiz and Qari Karimullah
Qadri (Passed away in 2008), Profressor Allama Abdul Haee
Farmavi, Profressor Allama Jamia Abdul Qaadir, Profressor
Allama Mehmood Abdul Khaliq Halwa, Profressor Allama Saeed
Mohammed Saleh Sawaabi, Profressor Allama Sayyedul Maseer,
Professor Allama Tahabeeshi, Professor Allama Abdul Mutee
Bewami. Other than the ones mentioned, he completed the one
year course of Iftaa in the darul iftaa of Misr in the guidance of
Mufti-e-Aazam Misr, Shaikh Ali Jamia.
Shaadi Khana Aabaadi (Marriage)
When Shaikh Saahab was studying in Misr, my father
informed him that his marriage date has been fixed as Sunday,
15th of August 2004 and the brides family is a Sayyed family
10

from Bariely. Many Ulema (Islamic Scholars)

and Mashaaikhs (Shaikhs of the Sufi order)
attended the wedding. A few attendees worth
mentioning, his teacher Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun Khwaja
Muzaffar Hussain Rizvi (Alihir rahma), Hazrat
Maulana Qari Shamsuddeen Sahab Qibla, and his
best friends, Maulana Khustar Noorani Qibla,
Maulana Manzarul Islam Azhari and Maulana Nauman
Azhari.
Safar Barae Hajj Wa Umrah Wa Ziarat-e-Baghdad Shareef
Wa Deegar Muqamaat-e-Muqaddasa (Hajj, Umrah, visits to
Baghdad Shareef and other Holy places)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had visited various holy places.
I will list them here in their order of
importance. This is the order First Hajj
tours, Umrah tours, Baghdad visits and other
holy places of visit.

Mumbai.

Teesra Safar-e-Umrah (Third Journey of Umrah)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) performed his third Umrah in
the month of May2012/ Jamadil Aakhir1433 Hijri. His wife also
11

accompanied him in this journey.

Safar-e-Baghdad-e-Moalla (Visits to Baghdad-e-Moalla)
Visits to Baghdad Shareef have been a key tradition of the
Khanqah-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. The level of position
and respect which this Khanqah holds in Bargah-e-Ghause
Aazam, we dont see the same for any other places. The relations
between Khanqah-e-Qadriya Badaun Shareef and Khanqah-eGilaniya Baghdad Shareef have been very strong and exist for a
very long time. An extensive article can be written on this subject,
but Ill present a few historic facts for the readers.
In 1278 Hijri, Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Shah Fazl-eRasool went to Baghdad for the first time. At that time, Qutubul
Afraad Hazrat Maulana Sayyed Ali Al-Gilani (Quddisa Sirruhu)
was the Saheb-e-Sajjada of the Dargah of -Ghaus-e-Aazam. He
got up from his seat (Masnad-e-Ghausiya) and
held Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasools hand and made
him sit next to himself. I dont think anyone
might have got this level of respect in the
court of Ghaus-e-Aazam. Maulana Fazl-e-Rasool
spent a lot of time in Baghdad Shareef and the
Saheb-e-Sajjada also gave him the Khilafat (all
the rights of succession of the Silsila Qadriya)
and ordered his son, Sayyed Salman Ghilani to
take lessons and the rights of succession from
Maulana
Fazl-e-Rasool.
In
this
journey
of
Saifullahil Maslool, he became extremely famous
in Baghdad due to his extraordinary repute.
Due to this reason, in the year 1290 Hijri,
when Taajul Fuhool Maulana Shaikh Abdul Qadir
Baduani visited Baghdad (At this time, Sayyed
Salman Al-Gilani was the Saheb-e-Sajjada of
Baghdad Shareef), as soon as the Saheb-e-Sajjada
saw Aala Hazrat Tajul Fahool, he immediately
asked him Anta Ibnu Fazl-e-Rasool?(Means
Are you the son of Fazl-e-Rasool?)And then
they kept talking about Saifullahil Maslool.
12

Sayyed Salman
that
time.

describe it)
After Taajul Fuhool, in the year 1336 Hijri, Sarkar Sahibul Iqtidaar
Mutiurrasool Maulana Abdul Muqtadir Qadri Badauni visted
Baghdad Shareef. As soon as the Naqibul Ashraaf Peer Sayyed
Abdul Rehman Al-Gilani (The Saheb-e-Sajjada of that time) saw
Maulana Abdul Muqtadir, he said Huwa Ashbahu Bi Jaddihi
Fazlir Rasool Lakinna lihyatahu Atwalu Minhu (Means He
is like his grandfather Fazl-e-Rasool, but just that his beard is
longer than his grandfathers beard ). After him, Mufti-e-Aazam
Hyderabad, Maulana Abdul Qadeer (Rehmatullahi Taala Alaihi)
visited Baghdad Shareef 45 times in his life. (For more details on
this, you can read Tazkar-e-Mehboob- written by Maulana
Abdul Raheem Qadri Badauni Published by Taajul Fuhool
Academy in 2008)
Currently, Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjada, Aastan-eAaliya
Qadriya
Badaun
Shareef
has
visited
Baghdad Shareef around 50 times so far.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) Ka Safar-eBaghdad (His visits to Baghdad Shareef)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma) visited Baghdad Shareef for
the first time in year 1992/1413 Hijri. Second time in the year
1994/1414 Hijri, third time in the year 1996/1417 Hijri, Fourth
time in the year 1999/1420 Hijri and for the fifth time in the year
2014/1435 Hijri, (He went for all of these along with his father)
and now until the day of Judgement, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma) is blessed to be in the Bargah-e-Gaus-e-Aazam)

The followers of Tareeqat know how important it is to

associate with Murshid (Saint of a Sufi order)

in order to attain sanctity. Shaikh Saahabs
(Alaihir rahma) family has been passing the
sanctity which theyve received through Shamse-Marehra Huzoor Achche Miya & Sayyedana Shaikh
Abdul Qaadir Jilaani to the masses for many
centuries that have passed by. Shaikh Saahab
(Alaihir rahma) took Baitin the silsila Qadriya
on Thursday, 13 th of November 2008. His peer
and murshid, Hazrat Abdul Hameed Mohammed
Salimul Qadri bestowed him with Khilafatand
Ijaazatof all the orders of silsila Qadriya
and made him his Wali Ahad (Immediate
successor).
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had also got Khilafatand
Ijaazatfrom Waris-e-Panjtan Sayyedana Shah Sayyed Yahya
Hussain Marehrawi (Sajjada Nasheen Aastana Aaliya Qadriya
Barakatiya Marehra Shareef; Passed away in 2011)
Ijaazat-e-Hadith (Authority of Hadith)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had received the authorityof
Hadiths from
1. His father, Tajdar-e-Ahle Sunnat, Hazrat Shaikh Abdul

Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef)
2. Doctor Ali Juma (Mufti Jamhooriya Misr)

Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya ki Nishaat-e Saaniya (Educational
Revolution)
Madrasa Aaliya Qadriyas education is historic and spread
across many centuries and the madrasa is a witness to all the
14

educational and humanitarian services offered

to masses by the students of Madrasa Aaliya
Qadriya.
Shaikh Saahab (Alihir rahma) used to always tell the followers
that he doesnt need any money from them to run the Madrasa
and instead used to ask them to send their sons to the Madrasa for
education. This way, we started educational services started right
from the beginning. Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) used to say
that ,Now the Madrasa hasnt started and the actual Madrasa
will start after 8 years, at the moment, I am making my team of
expert students. When these students will complete their studies,
then the inception of Madrasa will commence. Due to this reason,
the admission process wasnt announced publicly. Shaikh Saahab
(Alaihir rahma) used to accept admissions only for Jamat-eAedaadiyaand Oola (Level 1 & 2 classes in the course of an
Aalim). This way, every year, one batch kept increasing. When
Shaikh Saahab (alaihir rahma) started teaching, at that time only
the Jamat-e-Aedaadiyaexisted. When these students graduated
to Jamat-e-Oola, then the second batch for Jamat-eAedaadiya was hired. Then, the next year, the students from
Oolamoved to Saaniya (level 3) and the students from
Aedaadiyamoved to Oola. Then again, new entrants started
with Jamat-e-Aedaadiya. This way, the first batch graduated
in 2011. Along with Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma), Maulana
Anwar Sohail Qadri, Maulana Nabi Raza Qadri, Maulana Dilshad
Ahmed Qadri, Maulana Mujahid Qadri, and Maulana Iqbal Qadri
and from the year 2008 I (Maulana Ateef Qadri)
performed the duties of a teacher in the Madrasa.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had made some
changes
to
the
existing
syllables
of
Aalimcourse in the Madrasa, for the Jamate-Saaniya,he introduced the book of Taajul
Fuhool Ehsanul Kalaam Fi Tahqeeq Aqaaidul
Islam, later I was given the opportunity to
teach this book and for the same class the book
Madkhal Ila Usoolul Hadith was also taught.
15

For the Jamat-e-Raabiya Tafseer Aayaat Ehkaam

was also taught. Likewise, there are many
examples
of
educationalrevolutions.
Tadreesi Khidmaat (Educational Services of Madrasa Aaliya
Qadriya)
Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya has been an eminent institute in the
field of Islamic teachings and education for several centuries. In
the light of the limited knowledge I have, I can say that this
Madrasa has been the oldest (ancient) in India. May be there are
other Madrasas which are older than ours, but they are not in the
same spirit as they used to be.
This topic can be extremely huge, but Ill briefly mention the
time of Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasool Badauni.
He mainly learned from his father Maulana Shah Ainul Haq
Maulana Abdul Majeed Qadri Badauni and many other teachers.
The education he received has many eminent Islamic scholars;
through one link from Qazi Mubarak, through two links from
Meer Zaahid Harwi, through four links from Mulla Yusuf Alkosji,
through five links from Mulla Jalaluddin Dawaani, through seven
links from Meer Sayyed Shareef Jurjaani, he has been a student
of the above mentioned. Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasools Madrasa
doesnt require any proof for its esteemed education. All of these
educational services have reached Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma)
and the Madrasa now has an extraordinary repute in the society.
Our eminent teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun, Khwaja Muzaffar
Hussain Rizwi (Alaihir rahma) used to always say that To learn
something is easy; but to tutor someone is difficult and both
these skills are different. Even if someone is extremely learned,
it is not necessary that he may be able to pass on the same
knowledge to others through teaching. He used
to smilingly mention that it is easy to teach;
but to train someone on How to teach is
difficult. The skill of training is a natural
talent gifted by the Almighty Allah.
This natural talent of training used to be evident in Shaikh
Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) lectures and classes. Before going to
16

Misr (Egypt), he had taught in the Madrasa for

8 months from January 1999 until August 1999.
Upon returning from Misr, from the 3 rd of
December 2004 until 20 th of February 2014, he
continuously taught and tutored the students
of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya. I will briefly mention
some of the books he used to teach in the
Madrasa.

Talamizaa (Shaikh Saahabs (Alahir rahma) Students)

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to say that I am making a
team of experts for my Madrasa, which Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma) eventually made. Many students learned from Shaikh
Saahab, but Ill mention a few which are parts of his expert team.
1. Maulana Azzam Miya Qadri (Muhtamim Madrasa Aaliya
Qadriya, Badaun Shareef)
2. Maulana Sayyed Aadil Mehmood Kaleemi (Sajjada Nasheen,
Khanqah-e-Kaleemiya, Katra)
3. Maulana Mufti Dilshad Ahmed Qadri (Teacher, Madrasa
Aaliya Qadriya, Badaun Shareef)
4. Maulana Mujahid Qadri (Teacher, Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya,
Badaun Shareef)
5. Maulana Khalid Qadri Majeedi (Teacher, Madrasa Aaliya

Ilmi Khidmaat (Work in the field of Islamic Education)
Teaching in a Madrasa (if the schedules are followed
thoroughly) is such a busy task in itself that after this, to undertake
any other work is difficult. The teachers who teach in a Madrasa
understand how time-consuming it is to teach in Madrasa
especially
if
the
curriculum
schedules
are
followed thoroughly. To teach in a Madrasa in
itself is a big educational work; but Shaikh
Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) love for teaching and books, took him to a
18

higher level in his journey of life.

The Islamic articles that he wrote were published periodically in
various Islamic magazines of India and Pakistan. The topmost
publication in this list being Jaam-e-Noor. It is right for me to
mention that, Maulana Khustar Noorani convinced Shaikh Saahab
(Alaihir rahma) to write articles for Jaam-e-Noor magazines in
lieu of their strong friendship and respectful relationship. Maulana
Khushtar Noorani thought of adding a column named Khaama
Talashiin his magazines. (Khama Talash means Fault Finder;
this is only done with an objective of correcting ones errors and
not to ridicule someones work). He was on the look-out for
someone who can do this. Maulana Khushtar Noorani used to
say
I thought that, to pay comprehensive attention to someones
Islamic work is an exceptional skill and an extraordinary task.
The person who does this should be extremely learned, observant
and should have the verbosity to articulate his views on different
Islamic subjects effectively. I thought about this many times;
however, every time my mind would direct me to choose Shaikh
Usaidul Haq for this task.
After many discussions and requests from Maulana Khushtar
Noorani, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to take on this
task in the name of Abul Faiz Mueeni (They had to keep a
different name; as this person is supposed to be kept confidential)
(Khaama Talaashi Page 8/9)
Khaama Talaashi articles started publishing in the month of
April 2005 and continued until December 2006. In this column
of the magazine, the inaccuracies and faults of the content of the
previous magazine that was published by Jaam-e-Noor were
ridiculed in a sophisticated manner. One might think that To
ridicule means to put someone down, or to make fun of
someones work; but this was clearly done to correct someones
work and not repeat the same faults. Later it was announced that
Abul Faiz Mueeni was Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma)
I remember that our beloved teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun Khwaja
19

Muzaffar Hussain (Alaihir rahma) used to say that, Khaama Talaashi

is skill which cannot be accomplished by one man and it requires a
team; a team with a skillset of Ilm-e-Hadtih, Ilm-e-Tafseer,
Knowledge of Islamic History, Shora-e-Adab,etc. After naming
an exhaustive list of skillsets required, he used to say that Khushtar
has made this team with a lot of hard work. But the reality is that, a
young man(Shaikh Saahab) sitting on a mat in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya
used to write Khaama Talaashiin one day; sometimes in one sitting.
Een Saaadat b zore baazu neest
Taa na Bakshad Khuda e Bakshinda
In the month of December 2009, all the excerpts of Khaama
Talaashi were collated in theform of a book which was published
by Fikr-e-Islami, Delhi. After Khaama Talaashi, Jaam-e-Noor
released another book named Taaqqub. This column continued
only till February 2008 due to their busy schedules. All the
negative and positive aspects of different articles that were
published in India were brought to sight in this column. Shaikh
Saahab (Alaihir rahma) anxiously wanted to publish the old books
written by his grandfathers and great fathers (Akabir-e-Badaun)
and due to his occupancy in this project, the Taaqqubcolumn
had to be discontinued. Now, only Maulana Khushtar Noorani
can tell you whether he didnt feel the need to continue with this
column or he didnt get anyone better than Shaikh Saahab to write
this column after Shaikh Saahab refused to write this column.
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) deep insightful articles are
a witness to his knowledge dissemination services. Its not the
time to delve deep into this topic, but Ill mention a few of the
books/articles he had worked on.

Apart from this, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) has published
around 50 books which were simplified, well-researched and
translated by his expert students.
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) work in this field has been
graded highly especially his work on the book Qaseedataan
Raayataan (Published by Taajul Fuhool Academy 2013), one
would be able to judge his level of competence and his abilitites
to simplify books by reading this book.
Tasneefi Khidmaat (Writings)
Any intelligent person knows the importance of writing books/
articles. Writing has utmost importance in wordly history and in
Islamic History it has immense importance, and every educational
institute has been successful through their literature. Many
Khanwadas of India have been famous due to their written content
and Khanwada-e-Qadriya is one of them. The people from our
Khanqah have written extremely precious and helpful books and
handed over to the masses for perusal and various people have
benefitted from them. Shaikh Saahab is a son of the same family
and he had inherited this quality of exceptional writing skills from
his elders. He had outstanding writing skills and he was pure
from any egotism for this skill and why wouldnt it be so? He
was raised suchin a spiritual and disciplined environment where
egotismor any flawhas no place. His father who is his first teacher
and his Murshid, Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjad Khanqahe-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef is so disciplined and down to earth
that egotism can never impact him in anyway.
Shaikh Sahab (Alaihir rahma) wrote over a dozen of books (some
23

of them published and some werent), but all the books were extremely
well-researched, insightful and it was one of its kind. The speed and
enthusiasm with which he used to work in this field was awe-inspiring,
if he had been with us for another 10 years, he might have pened
down approximately 50 of them by then. Kindly remember that other
than the books he himself wrote, he also worked on re-publishing
more than 80 books of his elders which were presented in a much
simpler and comprehensive language for the readers.
Sometimes Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to say that Abhi
toh main apne akabireen ka karz utaar raha hu; abhi maine likhna
shuru nahi kiya hai(Right now, Im releasing the books of my elders
and I havent started writing yet)
Here is the list of some of his exceptional books;
1) Hadees-e- Ifteraq-e-Ummat Tahqeeqi Mutaale ki Roushni
mein (First Published November 2008, Second Publication in May
2009)
2) Quran-e-Kareem ki Sciency Tafseer (First Published January

Khanqah-eAaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef started publishing
a book named Mazhar-e-Haqin the year 1983.
24

In the year 1991, this name was changed to Taajul Fuhool Academy
and until now this academy has been providing various Islamic services.
Under the Taajul Fuhool Academy, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma)
started releasing a monthly magazine called Mazhar-e-Haq and
this continued from the year 1997 to 2005. Likewise, many other
books were released by this academy; a few of them are listed
below
1. Mohabbat, Barkat Aur Ziarat; Hazrat-e-Aqdas Ash-Shaikh
Abdul Hameed Mohammed Saalimul Qadri Badauni
2. Aaina-e-Mulaqaat; Doctor Shadab Zaki Badauni (Published

Upon returning from Misr (Cairo), Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma) for the first time translated the book Ehqaaq-eHaq(Writer Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Fazl-e-Rasool
Badauni) which was published in January 2007 and then this
journey of releasing books continued. By Novmber 2013, hundred
and seven (107) books were released by Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma)
Kutub Khana Qadriya Ki Nishaat-e-Saaniya (Revolutionary
changes in the Library of Madrasa Qadriya)
The history of Khanwada-e-Usmania (Family of Hazrat Usmane-Gani Radiallahu anhu) is an 800 year old history in India and it is
now known as Khanwada-e-Qadriya of Badaun. The history of
our library is as old as the family and the collection of books is precious.
This library of Qadri Servants is no less than a library of a Nawaabor
a King. In the year 1936, Aashiqurrasool Maulana Shah Abdul
25

Qadeer Qadri Badauni was appointed as Mufti-e-Aazam in

Hyderabad. Due to his absence in Badaun, the library wasnt taken
care of. He was shocked to see the situation of the Library upon his
return to Badaun from Hyderabad. The table of content was missing
and the books werent kept in the best conditions. After he passed
away, his son, Hazrat-e-Aqdas As-Shaikh Abdul Hameed Mohammed
Salimul Qadri (Madda Zilluhu) reformed the entire library and the
table of content which still exists. He was the only caretaker and due
to his busy schedules of taking care of the Madrasa, no more
reformation beyond this had happened.
In 1995, when Shaikh Saahab came to Badaun from Faizabad on
annual leaves, he thought of refurbishing the library, which led to
cleaning and organising the library to a certain extent. When he returned
from Cairo, the reformation of library started full-fledged. New books
were given numbers and the old books which were faded and had
gotten loose with their volumes, were reformed to an extent with
definite volumes. Shaikh Saahab was extremely particular in case of
books, he used to call the book binder and get him to do the binding
in his presence. This reformation was very crucial and it was attained
by special attention received from Hazrat-e-Aqdas at regular intervals.
The Library took a new form after a lot of hard work carried on
during the year 2006 to 2007.
The library is so well developed for the Muhaqqiqeen that
they can come and get their questions answered through the
reference of the books in the library. The reformed library was
inaugurated on Wednesday 24th of October 2008 by Hazrat-eAqdas.

Kutub Khana Madrasa Shamsul Uloom Ghantaghar Badaun
Shareef ki Nishaat-e-Saaniya
One of the major works of the freedom fighter of India,
Maulana Abdul Majid Badauni (Passed away in the year 1931/
1350 Hijri) is the auspicious building of Madrasa Shamsul Uloom
in Ghantaghar, Badaun. He had formed a huge library with
thousands of book in the year 1919-1920. The books were very
well maintained and organised in the library, but as time passed the
overall library had taken a worn-out shape.
After renovating Kutub Khana of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya, Shaikh
Saahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to visit the Kutub Khana of Madrasa
Shamsul Uloom, which was obviously not in good shape. Shaikh
Saahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to renovate this library.
Madrasa Shamsul Uloom is owned by Hazrat-e-Aqdas Sahebe-Sajjada Aastana-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. Upon
returning to the Madrasa, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) seeked
permission from Hazrat-e-Aqdas to renovate the
Library of Madrasa Shamsul Uloom, and the
permission was given instantly. From the next
day onwards, Shaikh Saahab along with his team
used to spend days in renovating the library. The place was whitewashed, new furniture was made and Shaikh Saahab got busy
into indexing the books and getting the books in a numerological
27

order. Old and worn out books were binded again and here as well
Shaikh Saahabs hard work and attentiveness turned fruitful. He also
mentioned that many important books went missing in the library.
The building was worked upon and the library in it was decorated.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) kept many of his books in this Library.
Janaab Farrukh Naeem Qadri sent several books written in English
from Abu Dhabi. These books are kept in a section named Maulvi
Fazl-e-Haq(Whom is the grandfather of Farrukh Naeem Qadri).
Many books were presented by Aarif Parwez Qadri (who is a poet
and isrelated to Hazrat-e-Aqdas). A set of auspicious books were
presented by Late Doctor Sadaqatullah Khan Badauni (He was also
strongly associated with our Khanqah for a long time)
As this Library is centrally located in Badaun, Shaikh Saahab
(Alaihir rahma) wanted it to be a public library. After seeking
permission from Hazrat-e-Aqdas on this thought, he advertised
this library in different newspapers (English, Hindi and Urdu).
Hazrat-e-Aqdas named this Library Maulana Abdul Maajid Public
Library. A section named Fareedi Daarul Mutaalais formed in this
library. The post of a Librarian is held by Janaab Mohammed Tanveer
Khan Qadri.
On 4th of Shabaan 1429 Hijri/ August 2008, on the occasion
of 165th birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Maajid Badauni, this
library was inaugurated by Hazrat-e-Aqdas Saheb-e-Sajjada
Aastan-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. Dr. Khwaja Ikram
(Director of Qaumi Counsil Baraye Firog Urdu Zabaan), Maulana
Khushtar Noorani and Maulana Sajjad Misbahi were also present
during the event.

(Visits)
When we pay attention to Shaikh Saahabs
(Alaihir rahma)life we find that he had kept
himself so busy in quest for more knowledge and
related chores. Apart from teaching in the
Madrasa, writing and publishing different books,
his quest for books took him places.
I am dividing this section in two parts
28

1. Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) search of books in Libraries

2. His participation in Islamic seminars and symposiums ;Visits
to different Madaaris-e-Islamiya as a Mumtahin; A lecture on a
special topic; As a judge in various Islamic competitions.
1. Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) search of books in Libraries
Our beloved teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun Khwaja Muzaffar Hussain
(Alaihir rahma) used to say that The passion to read books is
different and the passion to find books is different. We see that
both these passions existed in Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma). I
had read it somewhere that there is a lot of difference between
passion and habits. Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had the passion
as well as the habit to read. He used to say that to not have anything
to read for two days will be the biggest punishment for him.
We often see that people prefer to read stuff that interests
them. Some may find interest in History or geography or if
someone has interest in Islamic Literature then one may find interest in
Ilm-e-Hadith or Ilm-e-Quran.
However, Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) situation was a little
different; People interested in the field of Ilm-e-hadith used to
appreciate Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) knowledge in this regard
and people interested in the field of Ilm-e-Quran used to feel likewise.
I dont want to mention a lot of this matter but I want to mention that
his interest and knowledge of different subjects can be witnessed
through his Khaama Talaashiarticles.

Shareef; 2ndof March 2014 (This was the last library he visited 2
days before he passed away)
The second part of his visits is a bit more wide-ranging.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to be more inclined to
attending educational functions rather than social (Awaami)
functions. He wasnt seen much in social celebrations. After much
emphasis and requests from people, he used to agree to attend
some of them. He used to often send me (Maulana Ateef Qadri)
for these and say, Main Ateef Saahab ke Haq mein dastbardar
ho gaya hu (I have given him the responsibility of attending
social functions)
The programs he used to attend were either an Islamic seminar/
symposium or deep insightful lectures on special topics which
were concluded by open question and answer sessions or during
the final exams in different Madaaris-e-Islamiya or as a judge in
various Islamic competitions.
Due to limited availability of time and the emphasis by
Maulana Khushtar Noorani to keep this excerpt brief, I am

Tarbiyati Khidmat (Teaching someone the Discipline of
Islam)
A Mufakkirhas quoted that To learn something without
discipline is better than no education. I cant say how true this
quote is, but one cant disregard the importance of discipline.
Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) personality was full of
knowledge and discipline, which is why he used to emphasize on
the aspects on attaining knowledge along with discipline. To serve
this purpose, he commenced an institute named Al-Azhar
Institute of Islamic Studies. Under this institute, a 12-Day
Disciplinary and Educational Workshop was arranged for 50
students of Madaris-e-Islamiain the Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya
Badaun Shareef from 18th to 29th of January 2006. Lectures on
delivered on various topics mainly on the challenges one would
face in their current day to day life. For these 12 days, all the
arrangement of food and accommodation was done by the
generous Khanqah Aaliya Qadriya, Badaun Shareef. In this
workshop, Mufti Aale Mustafa Misbahi, Maulan Khushtar
Noorani, Maulana Noman Azhari and Maulana Sajjad
Misbahi
also
delivered
lectures.
Maulana
Manzarul Islam Azhari gave a lecture via
34

telephone from the United States of America. Maulana Mohammed

Ahmad Nomani gave a lecture on Taqaabul-e-Adyaan. The
workshop concluded with quizzes, prize distribution ceremony and
certification.
After this, he started with a competition on Uloom-e-Hadith
from 8th to 11th February 2008. Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma)
wrote a book for the content of this competition and it was handed
over to the students of Madaaris Islamiyatwo months prior to
the competition, so that they can prepare well for the competition.
On the 11th of February 2008, the prizes were distributed to the
winners of the competition by a special guest of honour - Sharfe-Millat Hazrat Mohammed Ashraf Miya Marehrawi.
In a similar way, a workshop was arranged for students from
different schools and colleges. He wanted to do this, as he was aware
of the lack of Islamic education amongst the students from different
schools and colleges. First workshop for the school and college going
students was arranged from 8th of May until 22nd of June 2005 and
this was distinctly the biggest workshop held by Ahl-e-Sunnat wal
Jamaat in India. The students were trained on basic fundamentals of
Islam like Namaz, Roza, Hajj and Zakat. Alongside these, lectures
were delivered by Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) on Tauheed-oShirk (Oneness of the Almighty and Associating Partners with the
Almighty), Aqeedah Khatme Nabuwwat (The belief in the Last
Messenger of Allah), Nikah and Talaaq(Marriage and Divorce).
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had made a lesson plan for this
workshop, assigned lecturers for different topics throughout the course
and announced quizzes on various topics.
From the 24th to the 30th of June 2005, a workshop named Fehme-Islam haftawas announced in which lectures on various topics were
delivered. Dr. Sayyed Aleem Ashraf (Who is a well-known Muhaqqiq)
spoke on Islam and Jihaad during this workshop. Likewise, during
summer vacations every year, many workshops were held in different
schools and colleges.
Khidmat-e-Khalq
(Humanitarian
and
Social
Services)
The principles and values of a Khanqah bestow righteous
35

deeds, sanctity of heart, best of character and high self-esteem, along

with theseat the same time, there is a lot of emphasis on humanitarian
services. The life history of Rasoolallah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
and the Sahabaas (Companions of the Prophets) (Radiallahu anhum)
projects an affluence of humanitarian services. As the values of a
Khanqah are derived from the values bestowed upon by the Prophet
of Islam Hazrat Mohammed Mustafa (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam),
one will find all the values ordained by the Prophet existent in a
Khanqah. It is important that all of these are carried out in a Khanqah.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) was a strict follower of the values
of a Khanqah and he was the Alam Bardaar (High authority;
someone who holds the supreme flag of a Khanqah) as well. Shaikh
Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) father Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-eSajjada Khanqah-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef had bestowed
such great values and principles in him which are required in a son of
a Khanqah.
Along with teaching, writing, Taqwa (Abstaining from bad
deeds), Taharat (Purity of Soul), Shaikh Saahab also worked a lot
on humanitarian services and he excelled in this field as well. He
helped somany ill people recover and that only Dr. Masood
Hussain Siddique, Dr Ahmad Mujtaba Siddique Barakati (Aligarh)
and Dr. Faisal (Aurangabad) can tell you.
Drinking Water Facilities
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to provide chilled water
packs at various places during hot summers, especially at the
railway station, bus stations, and the Dargahs. He used to send
the students of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya for this task at various
places. Along with the chilled water, he used to also give a small
brochure introducing Islam. Conveying the message of Islam
alongside humanitarian services has been an old customs of
Khanqahs.
Muft Taaleem (Free Education)
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) was himself quite educated
and he used to emphasize strongly on attaining
education. He used to support many poor students
who couldnt pay their fees by paying their
36

fees. Many students from India and around were aware of this quality
of Shaikh Saahab. Only Allah knows this better that how many of
such students he has supported. I am aware of few, but Shaikh Saahab
has always advised me to keep the names as a secret.
Shayari (Poetry)
Shaikh Saahab (alaihir rahma) wrote less poetry but beautiful
ones. He used to pay a lot of attention to the field of Shayari, and
you can witness this in his work on the book Qaseedataan
Raayataan. He knew thousands of poetry in Urdu, Arabic and
the Faarsi (Persian) Language, which we used to encounter during
our conversations with him and in his articles.
Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir Rahma) comes from a family where
writing poetry was inherent. His father, grandfather and great
grandfathers have been great poets and to see this inherence in
him wasnt surprising.
Most of his poetry has been published through Jaam-e-Noor.
A renowned poet should be able to give comprehensive review
on his poetry, but I want to say this that Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir
rahma) used to emphasize his poetry by this verse of poetry written
by his grandfather Aala Hazrat Taajul Fuhool.
Un ki Midhat Se Garz Hai Shora Kuch Bhi Kahen
Sher Goyi Na Hunar Hai, Na hai Hirfa Mera
Wafaat (Death)
On Tuesday, 4th of March 2014, we started our return journey
from Baghdad Shareef and the return tickets were from the Irbeel
Airport. We decided that well travel to Irbeel by car, as we can
also visit some important Dargahs (Shrines) on the way to Irbeel.
Five of us (Hazrat-e-Aqdas, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma), Hafiz
Abdul Qayyum Qadri, Haji Iqbal and Myself) left by car. Around
70 Kilometers away from Baghdad, some people started firing
our car from both the sides and one of the bullets shot Shaikh
Saahabs head and he was martyred immediately. Innaa Lillahi
Wa Innaa Ilaihi Raajiun.

37

During this time, Shaikh Saahab was reading Al Arabaoon-alNawaviyyah and his blood spots are still there on this book. This
book is now kept in the Kutub Khana of Madrasa Qadriya Badaun
Shareef. It is important to mention over here that, Shaikh Saahabs
great grandfather Ameerul Momineen Sayyedana Usman-e-Gani
(radiallahu anhu) was martyred while he was reading The Quran.
This incident occurred around 2.30pm Iraq Time and on the 6th
of March 2014, Hazrat-e-Aqdas, Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjada Aastanae-Aaliya Qadriya led his Salatul Janaza and then he was buried in the
special burial ground in the Dargah premises of Gaus-e-Aazam.
