Family Ties

Founded by Mayer Malbin, the man after whom

the company is named, his original shop was the
typical hardware store of its day. Joseph Selden
went to work for Mayer Malbin more than threequarters of a century ago, eventually buying
the company from his boss in 1946. A few years
later, Josephs son-in-law, Bob Gordon, joined the
business and began transforming Mayer Malbin
from a plumbing store into an industrial supply
distribution center with a larger focus. Soon
thereafter, Josephs son, Irwin Selden, brought his
engineering experience on board, expanding the
companys range of specialty work.

The family presence at Mayer Malbin continues to grow to this

day. Bobs sons, Dan and Jon Gordon, and Irwins son and sonin-law, Mark Selden and Edmund Jalbert, have all worked at
Mayer Malbin for the past 30 years. Now a fourth generation
has joined the family businessSam Gordon, the son of
Dan, previously spent a few years practicing law; and Jason
Gordon, the son of Jon has recently joined the ranks after
many years as a computer software engineer.
This tight-knit crew is committed to making Mayer Malbin
the best value for its customers. Our family-style, hands-on
management approach allows Mayer Malbin to quickly react to
change something which eludes our big box competitors.

Centrally located in Long Island City, New York, Mayer Malbin is the one-stop shopping
center for our industry. We boast six buildings with a combined 100,000-square-feet
where our entire inventory is stored indoors.
At Mayer Malbin, we stock the largest inventory of pipe, valves, fittings, and
industrial specialty items in the Northeast. We also realize that our clients often need
uncommon parts and supplies, or that sometimes our clients need large quantities of

Wedco Fabrications provides high-quality precision welding and fitting in our local 638 steam fitter shop to general,
mechanical, and sprinkler contractors. We also specialize in Cement Pipe Lining.
