Introduction

I choose the novel The Railway Children by Edith


Nesbit. The intelligent character in the novel is Bobbie.
Evidence 1 &
First of all, Bobbie is intelligent when she writes
detailed
letters to the Old Gentleman. When her mother falls sick,

Bobbie writes a letter to the Old Gentleman asking for
things needed by her mother as instructed by the doctor. In
return, the Old Gentleman sends all the things required
plus some extra things that they did not ask. Other than
that, Bobbie also writes to the Old Gentleman and asks him
to investigate about her father who is imprisoned after
being accused of selling governments secret. Then, the
Old Gentleman brings her the good news that her father is
actually innocent and finally Father is released and their
father is reunited with them.

Besides, Bobbie is intelligent when she stops the train

from the landslide. One day, while Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis

go for a walk by the railway track, they see a landslide
covering the track. They realise that the train is going to
involve in a terrible incident. So they decided to warn the
train by waving red flags made out of their petticoats.
However, the train does not seem to stop. So Bobbie
jumps onto the track waving her petticoat flags because
she knows that the train would stop if she stands on the
railway track. Finally, the train stops only 20 meters from
her and the train is saved from a horrible accident.

In addition, Bobbie is intelligent when she asks Peter
