VANDALISM SOLUTIONS

Vandalism is the behavior of cruel destruction or spoiling of anything disreputable

without permission of the owner. Vandalism sometimes considered one of the less
serious common crimes, but it can become quite serious and distressing when
committed extensively, violently or as an expression of hatred and intimidation.
Vandalism can occur in many ways, and the reasons are equally varied. Therefore
vandalism has become serious problems among teenagers and the solutions are
punishment and motivation, education programs and campaign and supervision.
There is some effective ways to stop or preventing vandalism is by punishment and
motivation. Firstly, the motivations and punishment is one of the methods for vandalism
solutions. The teenager who does vandalism should be punished such as to clean up
the city and to remove the illegal advertisement, beside that the government can form
specific penalties for vandalism charges convictions for minors and juveniles such as
repairing the damaged property, paying for someone else to repair the damaged
property, fines, expulsion from school, detention in a juvenile skill community service,
time in jail for serious cases.

The teenager caught with evidence of vandalism is

punishable by caning make the other teenagers get afraid to do vandalism. The
teenager who does vandalism also must be given the motivations to avoid them
continuously do the immoral activity. School and government can give motivations. In
some cases it is nothing more than youthful foolishness or irresponsibility If a child is
just suffering the consequences of listening to the wrong people or trying to live up to

the requirements of a club or group, one session of motivations may be enough to

discourage such behavior forever after.

Another way, they need educational programmes and campaign awareness.

According to Bonnie, Fisher. S, Steven P. Lab (2010), school or government should
establish a youth association of which teenagers help the government to fight against
vandalism. Established the youth association in schools is a reasonable action because
through the association, the youth can do a lot of useful activities. Youth in this
association could also be a good influence on their peers to prevent themselves
committing vandalism. School should have speech competition every year for every
student to participate. Thus, teenagers will have the awareness of the dangers of
vandalism and then decide to avoid the act. Created education programs for students
and teenagers can reduce the vandalism. The government should included civic
education in moral subject in school. There will be and activity such as clean up the
community and to prevent tagging and destruction of property, Vandalism exhibition as
they will apply social studies concepts related to citizenship: social responsibility and
working with community and they will study how vandalism hurts a community. This
awareness campaign should be done continuously. The teenagers should know public
facilities are important because we can use when we have emergencies and everyone
can use it.

Moreover, government need CCTV supervision for risk building happen vandalism and
neighbour rule in housing state. Each government organization or public facilities must
install CCTV supervision to prevent crime and vandalism in Malaysia. CCTV supervision
will do the supervisor more often to the place that always the vandalism is occur and the
installment of the CCTV for easy to monitor and to make the irresponsible teenagers
tend to think twice to damage public property because CCTV record their activities and
this become evidence for the punishment. Every housing state should have neighbour
rules or Rukun Tetangga can reduce vandalism. In that case, they not dare do it any
vandalism. Furthermore, everyone in the neighborhoods need to know the surrounding
and advise those who vandalisms especially teenager.
