What is architecture?

Architecture is process and the product of planning, designing,

and constructing buildings and other physical structures.

Architecture can also mean to describe

Introduction

The meaning of any building is transmitted

Through the materials in which it is built
And by the function it is designed to perform; usually depicted by the shape of the
building

A general term to describe buildings and other physical structures.

The art and science of designing buildings and (some) non-building structures.
The style of design and method of construction of buildings and other physical
structures.
The practice of the architect, where architecture means offering or rendering
professional services in connection with the design and construction of buildings, or
built environments.
The design activity of the architect, from the macro-level (urban design, landscape
architecture) to the micro-level (construction details and furniture).

The vast majority of buildings consist of external walls surrounding an

interior space and covered by a roof to provide shelter.

The basic shape of the building/ structure directly relates to the materials
chosen to form that enclosure.

Therefore, a building, as an object, reflects the society of its time more than
any other art-form.

Introduction

Introduction the art of design

Example buildings in our society

The function of an architect is to develop a design that depicts a perfect/

artistic relationship between abstract parameters, such as

context
time
function
style
By considering factors such as

Therefore, architecture is essentially the art of reconciliation;

availability and suitability of materials

climate
economy
life span of the building/ structure

which focuses on fulfilling variety of demands of its users in within a

projected image of three dimensional form.

The art of design

Every design consists of an effort to reconcile a form and its context.

It is the context, in association with the architect's stock of experience that

prompts the first ideas

The process develops as the architect uses both personal and general experience
to analyze the extent of the problem.

The architect seeks to develop reconciliation between all design parameters and
the factors influencing them.

Every building inevitably reflects the force or weakness of the original concept.

To be successful, a design must encourage new and unexpected uses as well as

having its roots in the original proposal.

The tension between these two aspects is what endows a building with a
meaning beyond the level which is a mere sum of its parts.
