Several ideas were bounced around but the one that resonated with everyone the most was the Friendship Star. Sara Lister has created a design using colours that encompasses both the heart of Grimsby and the positive
nature of our Grimsby Guild.

The Executive have been busy planning for these next two meetings since
we have so much going on. May is election month. The Elections Committee has been hard at work recruiting our wonderful members for open positions and the response has been fantastic. It is so important for every
member to become involved even in a small way. Its a learning curve for
all of us but the support is there and so is the fun!
Our May meeting also showcases a fantastic guest speaker, Kathy Wylie,
(and her workshop the following day) as well as member spotlight with
Carol Dinsmore.
One of the items on the Executive to-do list this year was to look at our
logo with an eye toward simplifying it so that it could be used on letterheads, name tags, business cards, brochures, all promoting our guild and
speaking to the heart of our philosophy.

Carol D
My name is Carol Dinsmore. I was born in Lachine, Quebec but did not live
there as my father was stationed in Petawawa and after the war was over we
moved to Hamilton.
I attended G. L. Armstrong, Hillcrest, Parkdale, W. H. Ballard public schools
and Delta S. S. I also attended Mohawk College (night school) but not until my
children were teenagers and I have a degree in fashion design.
I worked in a dental office most of my life as a dental assistant and receptionist. I have been retired for 12
years.
I have been married to my husband John for 50 years and have a daughter Siobhan, a son John, a son in law
Brian and two grandchildren Esme (16) and Emily (13).
No one has quilted in my family, although my mother made all her daughters (4 of them) clothing.
I have been quilting for only 3 years now although I have been sewing since I was a teenager.
I started quilting because I felt the need to do something for me and I also could leave a little of me behind
for my granddaughters.
I love sewing and I also love hand sewing. There is nothing nicer than watching television with something
in my hands to stitch.
My least favourite part about quilting is cutting the fabric. I am still at the point of being afraid of cutting
out the pieces wrongly, especially if I do not have a big piece of fabric. I know this will pass with time and
practice.
My favourite colours are pinks from light to dark, purple and greens.
My least favourite colours to work with are brown and beige although I can certainly admire any quilt done
in these colours..
My quilt stash is quite small, only one small drawer, but it is slowly growing.
I have both a sewing machine and a serger. I feel like my right arm is missing whenever I have to have my
sewing machine serviced and it is not available to me.
My music list would include Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis.
There are just too many good movies out there that I enjoy. Anything with Judy Dench, Maggie Smith and
Meryl Streep.
