A trip to Chicago

(Katie and her 5-year old son Chase, live in the very northwest corner of Ohio... in a small town called Montpelier, a
quaint little town of about 4,000. They live very close to both the Indiana and Michigan borders. They are just back from
a three-day trip to Chicago).
Dear Maom,
Chicago was wonderful. Chase had a lovely time. His favourite attraction was the Field
Museum of Natural History. He was amazed by Sue -the dinosaur. It is the largest and most
complete example of a T-Rex ever found. He loves dinosaurs, so this was of particular
interest to him. He brought home several souvenirs from his trip and was so excited to go to
school today to tell all of his friends about his stay in Chicago.
We also went to The Museum of Science and Industry and saw the Titanic exhibit. It was
extraordinary. They had a 13 ton piece of the ship's hull on display, as well as a large number of
artifacts that were retrieved from the wreckage. They had recreated several sections of the ship, including the grand
staircase. It was like going back in time. Amazing!
We visited the Adler Planetarium... because Chase loves anything dealing with space and planetary exploration. He
enjoyed that. And, the Sears Tower, which used to be the tallest building in the world until two buildings were
constructed in Malaysia that are a bit taller... but the highest occupied floor of the Sears Tower is higher than those in
Malaysia. The observation deck is on the 109th floor, I believe. The view is spectacular, of course. Chicago is such a
lovely city, anyway (the third largest city in the U.S., by the way). We also took a boat tour of the city from Navy Pier,
which was beautiful. Oh, and I took him to FAO Schwarz, the famous toy store. He loved shopping there, but was less
than thrilled with any other shopping that we did. :-)
I tried to choose dining spots that he would most enjoy. He most enjoyed the Rainforest Caf, which is very cool. It
looks identical to a tropical rainforest. The walls are aquariums and there are plants and vines and tropical flowers all
over, and animatronics animals like gorillas, tigers, parrots, etc. It was fun.
Very
humid, though.
It was a very good trip. I am so glad that Chase enjoyed it. He already says
that he thinks we should move to Chicago. He's destined to be a city boy, I
think. He likes fast-paced living, like his Mommy. :)
Anyway... how was your weekend? Busy preparing for work, it seems.
Well, I still have to unpack. Let me know when you are most likely to be
caught online and I will make a sincere effort to find you.
Love,
Katie
