Grow your best tomato yet

Nothing beats the flavor of fresh-fromthe-garden tomatoes. Make this your
biggest and tastiest tomato harvest yet
with proper planting and care.
Reduce pest problems and increase
the harvest by growing your tomatoes in a
sunny location with well-drained soil or in
a quality potting mix for container gardens. Improve your garden soil by adding
several inches of organic matter to the top
eight to twelve inches of soil prior to planting. Compost, aged manure, and other
organic materials help improve drainage
in heavy clay soil and increase the water
holding ability of sandy soil.
Add a slow release organic nitrogen
fertilizer
like
Milorganite
(milorganite.com) according to label
directions at planting. Slow release fertilizers provide a constant diet that is better for
your plants and less work for you. Save
yourself more time by mixing the fertilizer
into the soil when incorporating the organic matter. Then give your plants a midseason boost as needed.
Once the soil is prepared, wait for the
air and soil to warm to plant your tomatoes. Planting too early when the soil is still
cool and the nights are chilly can stress the
plant and delay your harvest.
Plant your tomatoes slightly deeper or
in a trench for better rooting. Trench tomatoes by digging a shallow trench about 3
to 4 inches deep. Remove the lower leaves
and lay the plant on its side in the hole.
Roots will eventually form along the stem.
Carefully bend the stem, so the upper
leaves will be above the soil. Fill the
trench with soil and water.
Stake or tower your tomatoes to

reduce insect and disease

problems and make harvesting
easier. The type of tomato and
your schedule will help determine the training system that
works best for you.
Determinate tomatoes (look
for the D on the tag) grow a
certain height and stop. They
work well in towers, containers
or even hanging baskets.
Indeterminate
tomatoes,
labeled with an I, keep growing taller, producing more flowers and fruit until the end of the
growing season. These do best
when grown on tall sturdy
stakes or extra tall strong towers.
Towering tomatoes is easy.
Simply place the tower over the
tomatoes at planting. Tomatoes
grown in towers produce a
larger, but later harvest than
staked tomato plants.
Allow a bit more time if you decide to
stake your plants. Place the stake in the
ground at planting. Be careful not to
injure the roots. As the plants begin to
grow prune off all side branches, suckers,
that develop between the main stem and
leaves. Loosely tie the remaining one or
two stems to the stake. Cloth strips, twine
or other soft ties work well. Keep tying up
the plants as they continue to grow.
Staked tomatoes produce the earliest and
smallest harvest.
Check new plantings every few days
and water often enough to keep the developing root system moist. Reduce frequency
as plants become established. Water
established plants thoroughly whenever

the top few inches of soil are slightly moist.

Mulch the soil with evergreen needles,
shredded leaves or other organic mulch to
keep the soil consistently moist and suppress weeds. Consistent soil moisture
encourages more flowering and fruiting,
while reducing the risk of blossom end rot,
cracking and misshapen fruit.
Harvest your tomatoes when fully colored. Leave them on the plant an extra 5
or 6 days for even better flavor.
Unfortunately, the animals often move in
and feast on the ripening fruit. In this case,
you may need to finish ripening tomatoes
indoors.
And once you taste that first red ripe
tomato, youll be looking for more sunny

spots for containers or to expand your garden.

Dear Dr. Winter, I would like to inquire about the

cost of mini implants. I actually just learned about
them after finding out I need a partial for 6 missing
teeth in a row on my upper left. I am interested in
finding out your mini implant prices without
extractions, bone grafting, or X-Rays. How much
difference in price is there from a three teeth bridge
to a 6-tooth bridge? Also, are your mini implant
procedures done the same day?
Dear Jean, mini-implants are not used for posterior
bridgework. The narrow diameter of the implant
(1.8mm wide) and the hard chewing would lead to
failure of the mini-implants and the bridgework!
There may be some dentists that are willing to do a
large bridge with mini-implants but that would never
be done at Hampton Dental Associates. Again
making a large bridge and anchoring it to very small
pins would lead to the bridge being pushed left and
right during chewing. That is why the FDA has
approved mini-implants for long-term use for
retaining dentures and partial dentures.
Another complicating factor is that the bone in the
upper jaw is not very dense compared to the lower
arch. Maxillary bone is like Styrofoam or balsa wood
compared to pine or oak in the lower jaw.
Mini--implants are used to retain dentures or
partials or to hold on to a single crown in the lower
front of the mouth. Other than that you would require
a minimum of 3 implants for replacing 6 teeth. I
would be happy to discuss traditional implant
bridges, extractions, grafting and any other treatment
options if you wish to schedule a comprehensive
examination and x-ray visit. Giving fees without
seeing x-rays or examining your bite and adjacent
teeth would be guessing as several factors go into
calculating the best treatment options. If you still
have teeth in the upper arch and there are 6 teeth that
need to be removed it is probable that there are issues

How to manage seating arrangements
After all of the invitations have been sent
and RSVPs returned, engaged couples who are
including a sit-down dinner as part of their wedding receptions must figure out the seating
arrangements for their guests. Such a task can
be both fun and stressful.
The fun of making seating arrangements
stems from reuniting friends and family members
who couples feel will enjoy one another's company and make the reception that much more
fun. But feuding family members can make the
task of assigning seats somewhat stressful.
Couples need not be relationship experts to
plan seating arrangements that ensure guests
have a good time. The following tips can help
couples enjoy the process of mapping out their
wedding reception seating assignments as much
as possible.
Make assignments by hand. While there
is software designed specifically to help couples
map out seating assignments, many couples find
it easier to do the seating assignments by hand,
which allows couples more freedom to
rearrange tables. In addition, making the seating arrangements by hand ensures that couples
spread out guests who might not get along.
Don't seat guests in the hopes of quashing
old conflicts. While the jovial spirit of a wedding
ceremony and reception might seem like the perfect atmosphere for feuding friends or family
members to bury the hatchet with regard to old
conflicts, this leaves open the potentially ugly
possibility that such conflicts might escalate.
Couples don't want their weddings to be remembered for all the wrong reasons, so keep feuding
factions apart when assigning seats.
Keep special needs guests in mind. Some
guests at the wedding may have special needs,
and this must be kept in mind when planning
seating assignments. Guests with medical conditions may benefit from sitting close to the restroom, while those with mobility issues might be
best served sitting in a spot where waitstaff can
more easily recognize when they need something. Consider sitting older guests, whose vision

might not be as strong as it once was, as close

to the happy couple as possible so these guests
can see everything and won't feel left out.
Make sure the seating assignment table is
easily accessible. The table on which seating
assignment cards will be placed should be
accessible upon entering the reception hall. A
table that's far off in the corner may confuse
some guests, who might think the seating is a
free-for-all and simply sit in the first empty seats
they see.
Consider flow between tables when making assignments. While you might have aced the
seating assignments at each table, don't overlook the importance of mapping out tables as
well. No couple wants their guests to feel isolated from friends or family members at other
tables, so do your best to ensure there's a good
flow between the tables. Plan for tables of family members to be placed next to one another,
and do the same with groups of friends. This
encourages guests to mingle and can make the
night much more enjoyable for everyone
involved. Planning seating assignments for a
wedding reception is no small task. But couples
can employ several strategies to make the
process go as smoothly as possible.

Technician to join our team. Responsibilities included the installation,
service, repair and preventative maintenance of the Corrugator and
Conveyor systems in a state of the art facility. This position is for 2nd
shift.
Preferred qualifications include but are not limited to: 2-3 years of
Electro-Mechanical Automation System Installation & Troubleshooting
Experience; operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery
which includes: motors, servos, drives, relays 3 phase power, communication devices, industrial/electronic controls and power transmission
systems; good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems;
strong troubleshooting and problem solving ability with practical,
mechanical and electrical aptitude; must be able to read and interpret
both electrical and mechanical drawings; must be fully computer literal
with Microsoft environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently in a mature and professional
manner; two year technical degree, certificate or equivalent experience
desired. All candidates must be willing to work any available shift; as
well as overtime. Corrugated background and/or boiler license is a plus,
but not required. Only TEAM THINKING individuals should apply.

Experience as a Service Advisor in a heavy-duty truck, equipment or automobile environment is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience is required.
