It is because I agree with Jimmy Carter, former president

of the United States in the position that when in conflict,
human rights protection ought to supersede state
sovereignty in the conduct of United States foreign
policy that I feel compelled to affirm todays resolution,
Resolved: When in conflict, human rights protection
ought to supersede state sovereignty in the conduct of
United States foreign policy. For clarification of todays
round, I offer the following definitions:
Word: Conflict as defined by Salisbury.edu, Conflict is an
expressed struggle between at least two interdependent
parties who perceive incompatible goals, scare
resources, and interference from others in achieving
their goals.
Human Rights as defined by the UN Office of the high
commissioner of Human Rights, Human rights are rights
inherent to all beings, whatever our nationality, place of
residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion,
language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled
to our human rights without discrimination. These rights
are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
State Sovereignty as defined by Academia.edu. Stephen
D Krasner defines the sovereign state model as a system
of political authority based on territory, mutual
recognition, autonomy, and control, but he goes to a
great length to show that in the absolute no state can
actually claim complete control over its territory,
borders, and domestic affairs as the definition would
have implied.

The highest value within todays round is naturalistic

observation. Naturalistic Observation is defined as a
method of observation, commonly used by
psychologists, behavioral scientists and social scientists,
that involves observing the behavior of subjects in their
natural habitats in many different situations and
circumstances, according to Psychlopedia.com.
Naturalistic Observation is most important in todays
round because when a situation being observed is
natural, you are employing naturalistic observation.
Naturalistic observation is reliable because there is little
to no chance of human error, as they are not changing
anything or physically testing for anything, simply
observing what already exists.
The best criterion for evaluating this resolution is the
virtue of selfishness. The virtue of selfishness is defined
by Ayn Rand because it is the best tool with which to
measure if my value is being upheld in this debate.

Conclusion Option 2:
Ayn Rand, Russian American novelist, screenwriter,
playwright, and author states that we must Observe
how many people evade, rationalize and drive their
minds into a state of blind stupor, in dread of discovering
that those they deal with their loved ones or friends or
business associates or political rulers, are not merely
mistaken but evil. Observe that this dread leads them to
sanction, to help and to spread the very evil whose
existence they fear to acknowledge. Clearly, we must
affirm the resolution.
