Dance in India has deep roots, evident in the sculpted figures on temple
walls, verses in scriptures, and most importantly, the vitality of the genre in
India today. Dance shines on as one of the most vibrant elements of culture
in India. As the Natyashastra, the ancient Sanskrit text on dramaturgy
mentions, dance encompasses all art forms poetry, music, drama, visual
arts and movement.
Alliance University, Department of Performing Arts intends to preserve the
very essence of Gurukul vaasa training experience in the world of dance
keeping intact the challenging traditional structures and plays an important
role in continuing the un-broken thread of the evolution of dance in India
today and intends to be a vital epicentre of dance activity, where dancers
and students come to learn, share ideas, and interact.
With this nave intention two unique workshop series named Bharathanatya
Abhyasashaala and Kuchipudi Abhyasashaala has been planned which
intends at teaching right from the fundamentals of chosen art form in a
Gurukul way. The planned workshop which will be partnered with host
institution can also be altered according to the needs of host institution.
Exercises, traditional adavus, rare facts and rigorous practice are the
highlights of the workshop.
Basics, Intermediate and advance are the levels that can be chosen in the
mentioned dance forms. The flagship workshop is on basics which drills in
the strong expectations from a dancer and unearths the true strength of a
performer. The workshops will be led by Dr. Vasanth Kiran, Head of
Department, Department of Performing Arts, Alliance University, Bengaluru,
India.
He has also been an examiner for some of the examinations for BA, MA,
Diploma examinations in Dance of different universities. He is the director of
NATYANIDHI INSTITUTE OF PERFORMING ARTS, Bangalore where students are
trained in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi.
