Final Paper - 4 Tips for Effective Social Media Management
The topic I chose for the Hootsuite presentation was 4 Tips for Effective
Social Media Management conducted by Susan Murphy, the Co-Founder and
Content specialist of Jester Creative Inc. It lays out four different ways in
order to keep your social media organized and working at its most effective
pace. Social media is considered noisy because of the amount of media and
information coming out at you at one time, so social media needs its
designated periods throughout the day and proper maintenance during its
lifetime. The top 3 reasons why most social media campaigns fail is the
misallocation of resources, misalignment of goals, and mismanagement of
time. Although, it can be solved with sleeping, seeing your family, and
actually accomplishing task you set out to do. This will be an informative
passage through the many advantages of proper social media management,
some of the must dos as well as many more helpful key points in order to
run a social media page successfully and effectively with the best outcome.
Social media has grown so much in the past couple years and really
does not show any signs that it will slow down which shows why the
management of social media neds to be taken into great consideration and

be utilized to its full potential. In fact, I would say that the term social media
marketing will soon morph into simply marketing (Tucker 2015). At a
business enterprise level, social media management is the collective
development of using online platforms and tools in order to accomplish the
necessary organizational objectives. For example, social media management
activity was notably visible during the commercials of Super Bowl XLV on
February 6, 2011. Social media management includes the improvement of
strategic plans of action to achieve organizational goals such as increasing
and maintaining brand awareness as well as the companys reputation
(Montalvo 2011). As stated, social media management is as important with
any business as any other part of their company. Its been needed since the
start of social media and for as long as social media is still around, it does
not look like it has a finish line anywhere within sight. This makes for a very
informative an necessary module in the Hootsuite arsenal.
The instructional module is needed in order to help educate the public
on solutions they can use in order to manage their social media better. In
order to help yourself in avoiding becoming overwhelmed and incapable to
get anything done at all, you can refocus your energy on the daily social
media habits made up of tasks you know you can complete. They include
checking the pulse at which you check social media, responding to direct
interactors, stimulating posts to create conversation as well as seeking new
followers (Kumar 2013). The Hootsuite module includes the 4 steps as first
having a plan, setting up dashboards afterwards, then creating a calendar

with important events that overlap with the social media activity and finally
using notifications to your advantage and screening out the unnecessary
alerts (Hootsuite 2015). Social media management drives more user
generated content rather than one that would not be managed properly
(Miller 2013). Creating a personal hashtag for the company or brand can
even help awareness and organize your fans and respond to them faster and
easier (Haselmayr 2014).
In conclusion, social media management is something to consider
whether it is being operated for a company or for personal use. Many
benefits can arise from these social media habits. Both the Hootsuite board
and others sources agree that managing media in these certain ways can
effectively improve the page, teach in better time managing skills and
expand to a wider range of an audience. Modules like these can benefit a
large number of peple, especially because social media does not show any
sign of slowing down in the near future. It was a very informative topic where
I learned that management online is just as important as offline, if not more
important.
