Short-term Stress is Good for Us
There is no person in the world that has never been stressed. It is because life has so
many problems that we have to face every day. We meet problems in all aspects of our lifes, such
as family, school, and society. What do you think when you heard about stress? Harmful? Bad
impacts? Headache? Most of people think about stress with negative concepts in their mind.
People think stress is harmful but actually there is short-term stress that has beneficial impacts
for our health. Short-term stress helps people to perform at their best when facing difficulties and
be mentally healthy.
When we facing difficulties, short-term stress force our brain to work harder and more
creative. Do you realize when we facing difficult condition, such as sudden exam, we become
more focus? It is automatically happen in our brain because we are forced to solve our problem
as soon as possible to get out from that difficult condition. We try to think something that out-ofthe box to solve our problem. Our brain will work harder and try to make several solutions and
may be beyond our usual imagination. It makes us more creative to solve our problems. More
focus and more creative make us automatically perform our best when facing difficulties (Bee,
2009). Why can it be happened? It is because our body release more adrenaline hormones when
we facing difficulties. When facing difficulties, hypothalamus gives signal to adrenal glands to
release adrenaline hormones. Adrenaline hormones instantly boost our physically, such as
increase blood pressure and heartbeat (McGuigan, 2012). It makes both of our strength and speed
increase and makes us more focus and try to think more creative.
Short-term stress also makes our brain healthier. Different with long-term stress that
brings bad impacts for our brain, short-term stress is needed for our brain. Short-term stress
makes our brain works continuously and it is good for our brain health. Like our body, if we train
our body continuously with doing some exercise, it can be healthier and avoid us from diseases.
Short-term stress provides defense against brain illness, such as Alzheimer (Bansal, 2009).

Alzheimer is an illness that makes our brain work decreases continuously and it also make our
memory decreases. Most people think that brain illness, such as Alzheimer, only attacks old
people, but actually brain illness can attacks everybody, not see how old we are. We can do some
sport to exercise our brain, such as bridge, chess and other brain games. These brain games will
give us short-term stress and force our brain work continuously.
It is clear that short-term stress has good effects for our life and health. We may face
difficulties that make us feel short-term stress or we may try to get short-term stress by doing
some brain exercise. Both of them give us a beneficial impact for our life. I believe that all of us
have ever experienced both of them, but we dont realize their good impacts. Now we can define
stress in positive concepts in our mind that not all of stress is harmful, there is short-term stress
which is good for our life and health.
