The Navy fly boys cannot stay on their "legal" (who says so) patterns. They regularly fly west of their "legal" path when flying with NW
breeze. Repeated calls to the base and the liaison there are a total waste of time. I'm so glad to be spending my summer in Canada, out of
the Evil Empire. Besides, those planes and pilots are obsolete in the Drone Age. Close the Base.

I think if thats your thoughts about the base Ken, you should move off the Island. I lived there for over 20 years before I joined
the military and honestly miss the sounds of those jets. The base needs to stay open, as that is what keeps a majority of the
island operational. You can stay in Canada...

Really, and how does the base keep the island operational? NO revenue from the base, because you can not collect any revenue
off of any federal land, no tax revenue from the Navy Exchange or commissary and most people that work on the base live off
island because they don't want to listen to that "sound of freedom" bull crap. So tell me how does the base benefit the island?
Oak Harbor is ranked in the top ten for crime for military base, google it. http://www.dailyfinance.com/2009/11/16/mostdangerous-military-towns/ Is that the benefit that the island gets?

By command requirement, most military folks must live within 20 - 45 minutes recall of the base. that's within *most* of the
flight paths. As an example, my husband and I own a home near Penn Cove - which is near the municipal airport. So we get
*all* the planes. And we don't complain about it because its as illogical as moving to the Pacific Northwest as complaining about
the rain. In a word - INSANE. We shop locally, not just at the NEX (because frankly, the inventory is wretched and you can
usually find it elsewhere cheaper) or the Commissary (I prefer local, organic, farm raised produce). Frankly, in my husband's
19+ years of service, we've yet to see anything of what Steve is describing from our military families. Most military folks look up
when they hear a plane and start discussing what type of plane it is, whose squadron it is and whether its tuned correctly! We
are proud patriots and we love our planes! If what Steve is saying were correct, you wouldn't see so many Navy retirees living in
our area, but they do in vast numbers. Flying their flags, hanging model airplanes in their homes and shopping at local
businesses - we've all seen them wearing their squadron and retired Vet hats proudly!

So just because YOU haven't seen it, therefore it is not fact. Did you look at the link? Or are you just making excuses. I have
driven over the NEX and Commissary and the parking lots are full, so don't tell me the inventory is wretched. As far as the recall
issue, what are all the cars coming onto the island and turning into the base, just coming for a visit? They are working on base, I
guess they are not subject to your 20-45 minutes recall. If you take away the base most of the military retirees would move
because they wouldn't have the entitlements of the NEX and Commissary, you know it and I know it.

I saw the link and its not telling the whole story - the biggest crime problem up here is drugs, or so the sheriff tell us and that's
not the fault of the military, hon. They are drug tested. Yes, they are coming for a visit, they are coming to the Navy Hospital
for their medical care, they are visiting the museum and visiting friends in service. The retirees love the climate, as well as the
amenities, the NHOH is a bigger draw than our crappy NEX who seems to think our greatest priority is beer and cigarettes.

Well Christina, I will live where I choose. I'm a third generation Coupevillite, my family lived here before NAS Whidbey existed.
Plus. we lived in Coupeville long before the Navy activated OLF during the Viet Nam War. The invasion of our lives by the pig jets
is intolerable and a health hazard. You should move back and live under the flight path if you miss it so much. The NAS Base
keeps the Island dysfunctional.

I agree Ken this base should be closed. As you can see the military is only sending planes that have been retired or obsolete and
planes that no other location wants because there to loud.
As to military says if you dont like it move.
Why doesnt the military move since they keep saying their wanted in other areas. If the military is such a great thing why are
not other cities trying to attract them.

They are not retired or obsolete. Our guys our out flying missions over foreign countries every day on the planes you're
complaining about. These planes are watching out for us and I appreciate them. This base has a huge flying range and will
probably be open for a very long time for our protection, so if you don't like I'd suggest taking it up with a real estate agent.... in
a different state.

The military employes many people from Oak Harbor on the base. Also the military families spend Millions of Dollars in Oak
Harbor. Thus helping the economy of Oak Harbor to grow. Without this financial input this nice town would be in a lot of hurt.
The military children attend the local schools.

Steve Hunter. I don't think islanders like the Navy so much, but that they don't like outsiders, that think becasue they move to
the island, and live there for 5 years or less, think that they ARE islanders. As far as were concern, they need to go live
somewhere else, if they complain about the Navy, which they already know fly jets, their probably complaining about alot more.

You must not go outside at all. You should see the amount of pollution the planes produce you can smell the fuel in the air. the
planes are so loud I have to wear ear muff while driving and even working around the house when the military is flying.

Everyone knows how loud the planes are. They have always been loud. Ever since I can remember they have been loud. Maybe
it's time, for the people who don't like them being loud, to find another place to find peace and quiet...The Navel Air Station is
on Whidbey Island, remember? We as Islanders, know we will not find peace and quiet, during flight times...

Nancy, if you need to feel safe by having planes fly over your house maybe you need to relocate to a safer neighborhood... I totally
understand the need for the continued practice, but to constantly fly over the hospital is ridiculous. I personally seen 2 prowlers fly directly
over the hospital where people are trying to recover, where operations are going on. Is it really necessary to have the flight pattern directly
over the hospital. The pattern can be changed, show a little respect for the people in the hospital, to me it is an easy choice. Just last week,
they were flying over the hospital after 11pm. NAS Whidbey should reevaluate their patterns so they aren't flying directly over or near a
hospital..

Directly over the hospital would be 500 AGL minimum by FAA regulations, and most likely higher, given the municipal airport.
And yes, it would be necessary to fly over the East side of the Island when returning from the OLF when winds require the pilot
to do so for safety concerns.

I guess the next time they fly directly over the hospital I will take a video and shut you all up. Shouldn't take long, because it
happens all the time, I work close by, and see it on a constant basis. Admiral Cove area is even worse, when you can see the
pilot they are to close, period.

With the exception of the touch and goes at the OLF, Navy pilots are 500 feet above ground level, by AFA rules, Steve Hunter.
No closer.

lol, (not really). It is like a homeowner that buys a house in a homeowners association, reads the by laws, buys the house then complain
about the rules later. There is many places you can live that is not is a noise zone!

You know, we live near a NAVAL AIR STATION, there are planes at Naval air stations. People who move into this area sign a waiver because
of the air plane noise. My suggestion is that you rent a hotel room for a couple of weeks during flight operations and then decide if this is the
place for you or not. We are free in this great nation because of our military, if you don't like it leave it.

Why should we locals move? We have been here a lot longer than the base and we dont want the base here. Since you like the
base so much it doesn't matter where the base moves too. we like this area the way it was before the military came to town.

Wow if you were here before the base you must be very old. The base has been here since before WW2 and actually played a
big role in keeping you save. You sir are an unappreciative person and I hope the base stays where it is for many many years.

Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) (IATA: NUW, ICAO: KNUW, FAA LID: NUW) is a naval air station located in two sections around
Oak Harbor, Washington, USA. It was commissioned as an active U.S. Navy installation on 21 September 1942......everyone that moved here
before 1942 - I can only apologize. Everyone after - suck it up buttercup. It is what it is.
