IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE

WARNING: electrical wirings,
installation of the fan coils and relevant
accessories should be performed by
a technician who has the necessary
technical and professional expertise
to install, modify, extend and maintain
systems, and who is able to check the
systems for the purposes of safety and
correct operation.
WARNING: The fancoil is connected
to the power supply and a water
circuit. Operations performed by
persons without the required technical
skills can lead to personal injury to the
operator or damage to the unit and
surrounding objects.
CAUTION:before carrying out
any work, put the proper individual
protection devices on.
WARNING: the device must be
installed in compliance with the
national plant engineering rules.
WARNING: before carrying out any
work, make sure the power supply is
unplugged.

AIRING THE ROOM

Periodically air the room in which the fan
coil has been installed; this is particularly
important if the room is occupied by
many people, or if gas appliances or
sources of odours are present.
ADJUST TEMPERATURE ADEQUATELY
The external temperature should be
adjusted in order to provide maximum
comfort to the people in the room,
especially if they are elderly, children
or sick people; avoid differences over
7C between the outdoor temperature
and the temperature inside the room
in summer.
In summer, a temperature that is too low
causes higher electrical consumption.
CORRECTLY ADJUSTING THE AIR JET
Air coming out from the fan coil must not
reach people directly; in fact, even if the
air is warmer than the room temperature,
it could cause a cold sensation and
result in discomfort.
DURING OPERATIONS

WARNING: Install a device, main

switch, or electric plug so you can fully
disconnect the device from the power
supply.

Always leave the filter on the fan coil

during operation (otherwise dust in the
air could soil the coil surface area).

CAUTION! DANGER! Any use of the

unit not expressly indicated by Aermec
is strictly prohibited.

During cooling function, water vapour

may be present in the air delivery.

WHAT IS NORMAL

DO NOT USE THE FAN COIL

IMPROPERLY

In the heating operation, a slight hiss

might be heard close to the fan coil.
Sometimes the fan coil might give
off unpleasant smells due to the
accumulation of substances present
in the air of the room (clean the filter
more often, especially if the room is not
ventilated regularly).

Do not use the fan coil in animal

husbandry applications (e.g. incubation).

While the unit is functioning, there could

be noises and creaks inside the device

ONLY SUPPLY THE FAN COIL WITH

SINGLE-PHASE 230 VOLT ELECTRICITY
Use of other power supplies could cause
permanent damage to the fan coil.

IFCXTY 1102 - 6191101_01

due to the various thermal expansions

of the elements (plastic and metal), but
this does not indicate any malfunction
and does not damage the unit unless the
maximum input water temperature is
exceeded.
MALFUNCTIONING
In case of malfunction, cut off power
to the unit, then energise it again and
restart the device.
CAUTION! Do not attempt to repair
the unit alone, this is extremely
dangerous!
If the problem occurs again, call the local
Aftersales Service immediately.
DO NOT TUG THE ELECTRICAL CABLE
It is very dangerous to pull, tread on or
crush the electrical power cable or fix it
with nails or drawing pins.
A damaged power cable can cause short
circuits and personal injury.
DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE
AIR OUTLETS
Do not put anything at all in the air
outlet slots.
This could cause injury to people and
damage to the fan.
CAUTION
Avoid any use of the device by children
or incompetent persons without
appropriate supervision; also note that
the unit should not be used by children
as a toy.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING: The fan coil is
connected to the power supply
and a water circuit. Operations
performed by persons without the
required technical skills can lead to

personal injury to the operator or damage

to the unit and surrounding objects.
WARNING :before carrying out any work,
put the proper individual protection
devices on.

WARNING: check that the power supply

is disconnected before carrying out any
procedures on the unit.

ORDINARY MAINTENANCE
The ordinary maintenance, it can also be
done by the user, consists of a series of

simple operations, thanks to which the

fan coil can operate at full efficiency.

Interventions:
- External cleaning, weekly, to be carried
out with a damp cloth (dipped in water
maximum 40C) and neutral soap; avoid
any other type of detergent or solvent.
- Do not spray water on the outer or
inner surfaces of the fan coil (this could
cause short-circuiting).

- Periodic cleaning of the filter

Frequent cleaning of the filter will ensure
more efficient unit operation.
Check whether the filter is very dirty: in this
case, repeat the operation more often.
Clean frequently. Remove the accumulated
dust with a vacuum cleaner.

Once the filter is clean, refit it on the fan

coil following the removal instructions
but in reverse order.
- Visual inspection of the state of the fan
coil for every maintenance operation;
every fault must be communicated to the
After-Sales Service.

For the electrical wiring in particular,

checks relating to the following aspects
are required:
- measurement of the electrical system
insulation resistance;
- continuity test of the protection wires.
The extraordinary maintenance consists
of a series of complex operations that

involve the dismantling of the fan coil

or its components thanks to which
the condition of maximum fan coil
functioning efficiency is restored.
Before carrying out any work,
make sure the electricity supply
is unplugged.

Do not use jets or sprays of water during

the cleaning.
Use the brush to remove any dust deposits.
- Repairs and fitting out: if you
notice anomalies, consult the
TROUBLESHOOTING" chapter of this
manual before contacting the After Sales
Service.

- The fact that the shrouds of inspectable

fans can be removed (operation done
only by adequately skilled technicians)
ensures a thorough cleaning of the
internal components, which is particularly
important when installing the unit in
crowded areas or venues requiring high
hygiene standards.

EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE
Extraordinary maintenance must only
be carried out by Aermec After Sales
Service centres, or by technicians with
the technical and professional requisites
for the installation, transformation,
amplification and maintenance of the
systems, and able to check these aspects
in terms of safety and good working.

Interventions:
- Internal cleaning, yearly or before long
breaks. In rooms where a high level of
air cleaning is requested, the cleaning
intervention can be made more often: It
consists in the cleaning of the coil, fan
louvres, basin, ioniser, and all the parts
in contact with the treated air. Check
also the condition of the filter, cleaning
it or, if necessary, replacing it.

3R and 4R: with water valve (VCF)
3R: with electric heater (RX)
3R: with electric heater (RX) and valve
(VCF)
3R: with hot water coil (BV) and 2
valves (VCF)
Ventilation
3-speed ventilation can be controlled
both manually and automatically.

For systems with valve and Water Probe

upstream of the valve there may be a
delay (delayed ventilation up to 240
max) between the valve start-up and the
fan activation (exchanger pre-heating).
Changeover
The thermostat automatically changes the
functioning mode (heating or cooling).
The change over takes place according
to the temperature of the water in the
system; two change over modes can be
selected by changing the Dip settings:
with minimum/maximum temperature
control only;
with minimum/maximum temperature
control and coil pre-heating (delayed
ventilation up to 240 max).
Only for special systems with water
probe downstream of the valve or with
two-way valve, the change over takes
place on the air side, by operating the
temperature selector; with this setting
the fan coil can be used with a twoway valve in pre-existing systems, but
it is not recommended as it reduces
the electronic thermostat's simplicity of
use (the display of the Heating/Cooling
functioning mode through the LED is
altered, depending on the selected
temperature and on the air temperature
in the room).
Water temperature controls
The thermostat activates ventilation only
if the water temperature is suitable for
the Heating or Cooling mode.
The enabling thresholds 35C or 39C for
Heating and 17C or 22C for Cooling
can be set via the Dip-Switches.

the presence of valves it may be delayed.

IFCXTY 1102 - 6191101_01

The control panel indicates the situation

in which the water temperature is not
suitable for the functioning mode set
through the alternate blinking on the
fuchsia coloured LED C with colours red
or blue depending on the active mode.
If the three-way valve has been installed,
the SW water probe (standard) must
be replaced with the SW3 accessory,
whose bulb must be positioned on the
delivery pipe upstream of the valve.
Valve control
The valve can be controlled in two ways:
optimised : uses the capacity of the
fan coil in Heating mode to provide
heat even when ventilation is switched
off, and in Cooling mode to obtain
continuous ventilation, maintaining
room temperature control by means of
the valve;
normal: the valve opens or closes when
the fan is turned on or off.
Modo Emergenza
If there is a functioning fault in the SA
ambient probe, the thermostat enters
the Emergency mode, which is indicated
when the yellow LED (D) flashes. In this
condition the thermostat operates as
follows:
with selector (A) in position OFF, the water
valve is closed and the fan turned off.
with selector (A) in position AUTO, V1,
V2 and V3, the water valve is always
open and the fan goes through the on-off
cycles;in this condition the output from the
terminal is manually controlled by means
of the selector (B): turning it to the right
increases the duration of the On cycle;
turning it to the left decreases the duration.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Before making the selection please see
the configurations table and that of the
accessories compatibility.
The high cabinet versions (A, AS, ACT,
and APC) are equipped with intake
from the bottom with filter and are
suitable for vertical wall-mounting or
floor installation using the appropriate
feet (accessory ZX).
The low cabinet version (B) is equipped
with front intake with louver and
filter and is suitable for vertical wallmounting or floor installations.
The universal cabinet versions (U, AU
and UE) are equipped with front intake
with louver and filter and can be
installed both vertically on the wall or
floor and horizontally on the ceiling.
The ceiling mounted versions for duct
installation (P, PPC, PO and PE),
without cabinet and with intake from
below with filter, are suitable for both
vertical and horizontal installations.
Can be installed in Ventilcassaforma
CHF. Specific galvanized steel feet are
available (accessory ZX).
In case of duct installations where
pressure drops in the ducts are
considerable, the PO version (with
boosted multi-speed motors) enables
to have the effective pressure needed
to guarantee a correct air flow rate.
The vertical version for duct installation
(PV), without cabinet and with intake
from below with filter, is suitable for
vertical installation and is particularly
suitable for Ventilcassaforma CHF.
Specific galvanized steel feet are
available (accessory ZX).
Where it is necessary to ensure the
exchange of air in the environment the
intake of the fan coil can be connected
with an external air vent. The fan coil
must be equipped with accessories SE
(external air damper) and ZX (plastic
or galvanized steel feet depending on
the expected combination for the fan
coil version).
CONTROL PANELS
The AS, B, U, UA versions have to be
combined with a control panel to
be installed internally or externally.
Consult the characteristics and
compatibility of the control panels
supplied as accessories.
The P, PV, PO and PPC versions have
to be combined with a control panel
to be installed externally. Consult the
characteristics and compatibility of the
control panels supplied as accessories.
The other fan coil versions are supplied
with built-in control panel.
Some control panels can control a
network of fan coils if they are used in
combination with the interface cards

SIT3 and SIT5 supplied as accessories.

VARIABLE MULTI FLOW SYSTEM
All fan coils supplied without control
panel are compatible with the VMF
System.
The VMF (Variable Multi Flow) system
is able to intelligently manage a
complete hydronic system, made
up of chiller/heat pump, a boiler, a
network of fan coils divided into zones
(up to 64), circulation pumps (up to
12) and heat recovery units with air
quality sensor (up to 3), optimising
conditioning and heating performance
to ensure comfort and energy savings.
VMF System, the control panel and the
thermostat are two separate elements.
Select the combination that best suits
the needs of the system between
the available control panels and
thermostats of the VMF System series.
Fan coil applications:
- A single fan coil with VMF System
thermostat and control panel can
operate as a standalone unit.
- TTL network with up to six fan coils. A
fan coil with VMF System thermostat
and control panel can operate as
a master unit if connected in a TTL
network with up to 5 more fan coils
with VMF System thermostat.
- Network with Modbus RTU protocol,
VMF-E5 centralised control panel and
up to 64 zones with fan coils (one
master + up to 5 slaves).
For more detailed information
and for the choice of components
consult all the available VMF System
documentation.
TECHNICAL DATA
The main technical data of the FCX
range are summarised in the tables.
The sensible and total cooling capacities
at maximum speed depending on
the incoming water temperature, its
thermal head and the dry and wet bulb
temperature of the air respectively
for sensible and total capacity for the
3-row coil versions are shown in the
table, the performance at medium
and low speed are obtained by
multiplying the values in the tables
by the indicated correction factors,
and obtained for the 4-row versions
by multiplying the values in the tables
by the correction factors indicated for
each speed.
The water pressure drops, respectively for
the 3-row, 4 rows and 1-row coils (BV
accessory), are shown in the graphs.
The correction factors when the unit
operates with glycol water for cooling
and heating function modes are shown
in the graphs in percentages of glycol
of 10%, 20% and 35%.

The heating output from the 3-row and

4-row and 1-row coils (BV accessory)
based on the water flow rate and
temperature difference between the
inlet water and inlet air is shown in
a graphical form and refers to the
maximum speed; the performances
at average and minimum speeds are
obtained by multiplying the values
obtained from the chart at maximum
speed by the corrective factors indicated.
The total and sensible cooling capacities
of the direct expansion coils (FCX
UE - PE) based on the evaporation
temperature and the wet and dry
bulb temperature of the air entering
in respectively for total capacity
and sensible capacity are presented
in graphical form and refer to the
maximum speed, the mean and low
speed performances are obtained by
multiplying the values obtained from
the graph at maximum speed by the
correction factors indicated.
For the versions without cabinet (P-PVPE-PO), the performances described
above must be considered as referring
to air flow rates equal to those of
the corresponding models in other
versions (A-B-U series) at maximum
speed (rated capacities).
The head of versions without cabinet
(P-PV-PE-PO), according to the air
flow rate and the fan speed, are
shown in the table; the curves are
shown for each reference speed.
For scaling of the versions without
cabinet, it is advisable to proceed as
follows: choose the size that given
a normal flow rate has a capacity
immediately above that required;
afterwards, mark out the curve of
the duct pressure drops on the ratepressure diagram related to the unit
in question in order to find the points
of machine operation at the different
speeds. Based on the output values
of these points, you will obtain the
correction factors that help calculate
the capacity given the actual
conditions of air flow rate. For multispeed models, this procedure helps to
suitable choose the speeds to be set.
The pressure and sound power level
of the fan coils at the various speeds
is indicated in separate tables for the
3-row and 4-row versions. For the
duct versions, the sound power level is
expressed according to the air flow rate
and head, and represented as graphs.

Minimum average water temperature

To avoid condensate forming on the external structure of
the unit while the fan is functioning, the medium water
temperature must not be lower than the limits shown in the
table below, that depend on the thermohygrometric condition
of the air in the room.

The above limits refer to fan movement at minimum speed.

In the case of a prolonged situation with the fan off and
the passage of cold water into the batter, it is possible for
condensate to form on the outside of the apparatus, so it is
recommended that a three-way valve accessory be inserted.

Tw [C] = Inlet water temperature

Ta W.B. [C] = Inlet air temperature with wet bulb
Ta D.B.[C] = Inlet air temperature with dry bulb
Pc [w] = Total cooling capacity
Ps [w] = Sensible cooling capacity
Qv [m3/h] = Air flow rate

NB: The yield values in bold type show the rated value.
If sensible capacity values are above the total output, this means that
cooling is carried out without dehumidification.
If this occurs, take into consideration only the sensible capacity values.

The cooling capacities yielded shown in the table must be multiplied by the following factors:

Tw [C] = Inlet water temperature

Ta W.B. [C] = Inlet air temperature with wet bulb
Ta D.B.[C] = Inlet air temperature with dry bulb
Pc [w] = Total cooling capacity
Ps [w] = Sensible cooling capacity
Qv [m3/h] = Air flow rate

NB: The yield values in bold type show the rated value.
If sensible capacity values are above the total output, this means that
cooling is carried out without dehumidification.
If this occurs, take into consideration only the sensible capacity values.

HEAD OF DUCT VERSIONS

The fan coils in the PO series have been designed to make it
possible to adjust the head supplied by the fan upon pressure
drops in the duct by choosing an appropriate set of three speeds.
The tables show the useful head of the machines with a boost-

ed multi-speed motor on the basis of the air flow rate and fan
speed (L1...L7).
The same diagrams show the curves relating to the models with
a standard motor (P-PV-PE) at maximum and medium speeds.

SOUND POWER LEVEL FOR DUCT CEILING-MOUNTING FCX-PO MODELS expressed in dB

The level of the sound power emitted by the fan coils (FCX-PO)
installed in ducts depends not only on the fan speed, but also
the functioning point that is determined compatibly with the
duct pressure drop.
The following diagrams make it possible to determine the level

of the sound power (A-weighted), expressed in dB (A) and

shown at the relative curve on the basis of the flow rate and
static pressure values.

The overall levels of the sound power, expressed in dB (A), are shown at each curve

CHF VENTILCASSAFORMA
Template is galvanised metal that allows the
creation of space directly in the wall to
house the fan coil (FCX_P / FCX_PV).
The template facilitates masonry work
during the construction of the niche where
the fan coil will be installed.
The visible parts are treated with a primer
that will be repainted with the same paint
used for the walls.
When the work is finished, the fan coil will
be completely hidden from sight.

a range of accessories available for
connection to the ducts.

WARNING:before carrying out any work,

put the proper individual protection
devices on.

You are advised to insulate the water

piping properly or to install the special
auxiliary condensate collection basin,
available as an accessory, to avoid
dripping while working in cold mode.

If a three-way valve is installed, the

minimum water temperature sensor can
be installed in two locations:
- in its housing in the coil, MANDATORY
if the thermostat is connected to
a system with centralised control or
monitoring device (example: VMF-E5);
- on the delivery pipe up stream of the
valve.

WARNING: the device must be installed

in compliance with the national plant
engineering rules.
WARNING:keep the electrical and water
connections separated. The water and
condensate discharge connections
should be opposite to the side with
electrical connections.
WARNING: electrical wiring, installation
of the fan coils and relevant accessories
should be performed by a technician
who has the necessary technical
and professional expertise to install,
modify, extend and maintain systems,
and who is able to check the systems
for the purposes of safety and correct
operation.
WARNING: install a device, main
switch, or electric plug so you can fully
disconnect the device from the power
supply.
WARNING: Consult all documentation
before starting the installation.
The essential indications to carry out a
proper installation are given below.
The final touches to all the operations are,
however, left to the experience of the
installation engineer in accordance with
the specific needs.
The water, condensate discharge and
electrical circuit ducts must be provided for.

The fan coil must be installed in such a

position that the air can be distributed
throughout the room and so that there
are no obstacles (curtains or objects) to
the passage of the air from the suction
louvers.
The fan coil should be installed in such
a way as to facilitate routine (filter
cleaning) and special maintenance
operations, as well as access to the air
drain valve on the side of the unit frame
(connections side).
The installation should not be a danger
for people.
The installation site must have maximum
and minimum temperature limits
specified in the "Operating Limits" table
Do not install units in rooms where there
are inflammable gases or acid or alkaline
substances that could irreparably
damage the aluminium-copper heat
exchanger or internal plastic parts.

Check the thermostat manual before

choosing the location of the minimum
water temperature sensor, according
to the preferred control logic. The
thermostat may need the settings of the
dip-switches changed.
WARNING:After completing the
installation check the operation of the
condensate discharge system, the seal of
the hydraulic fittings, insulation of ducts
and pipes. Then perform a functional test.
WARNING: keep the electrical and water
connections separated. The water and
condensate discharge connections
should be opposite to the side with
electrical connections.

Do not install the unit in workshops or

kitchens where the oil vapours mixed
with the treated air can be deposited
on the exchange coils, reducing their
performance, or on the parts inside the
unit damaging the plastic parts.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION
To install the unit, proceed as follows:

- All fan coils can be installed vertically.

Fan coil preparation:

- Remove the fan casing (for units with

casing).
WARNING: some versions provide the
electrical connection with a microswitch
and/or the ambient temperature probe
on the casing.
- If the installation requires the water
connections to the right, turn the coil
and move the electrical connections on
the left side.
- Apply the necessary accessories to the
fan coil.

Only versions with the fan coil

equipped with front tray can be installed
horizontally.

- The position must provide enough space

for intake and delivery air flow.
- The position must ensure that the air
distribution can be spread throughout
the environment.
- The wall or ceiling must be able to
support the weight of the unit.
- The position must be provided with the
water connections to the heating and/or
cooling system.

WARNING: some items can not be

mounted simultaneously on the same
unit (Example 1) or need to be combined
with other accessories (Example 2).
Refer to the compatibility table and the
documentation of each component.

- The position must be provided with

electrical connection or power socket.

Example:1 The VCF valve and the BC4 tray

cannot be installed at the same time on
the same fan coil.

- If the fan coil is to be used for cooling,

connection to a condensate discharge is
required.

Example:2 If the 3-way VCF valve has been

installed, the SW water probe must be
replaced with the SW3 accessory, whose
bulb must be positioned on the delivery
pipe upstream of the valve.

- In wall installation with intake from

below, a minimum distance of 80 mm
must be maintained from the floor.

Choosing the installation position

- Keep the electrical and water
connections separated. The water and
condensate discharge connections
should be on the side opposite to the
side with electrical connections.
- See the characteristics of the version in
question.

- If the use of a wire connected control

panel is intended or a centralised control
system, the position must be reached by
connection cables.

- For floor mounting (using feet), refer

to the instructions supplied with the
accessory;
Fan coil installation:
- The frames of the fan coils are drilled
with holes for wall fixing with expansion
plugs. The plugs must be chosen according
to the weight they must support and the

CONNECTIONS
WARNING: keep the electrical and
water connections separated.
The water and condensate discharge
connections should be on the side
opposite to the side with electrical connections.
HYDRAULIC CONNECTIONS
Make the hydraulic connections.
- In the event of disassembly and
reinstallation, use new gaskets.
Refer to the size data for the position,
type and diameter of the hydraulic
connections.
You are advised to adequately insulate
water lines and/or fit the auxiliary
condensate drain tray (available as an
CONDENSATE DISCHARGE
In the event of horizontal installation,
assemble the condensate discharge
connection supplied. Make sure you seal
the connection between the drip tray and
the fitting with silicone. The condensate
drain network must be properly scaled
and the piping situated in such a way
as to keep an adequate slope along
the route (min. 1%). If condensate is
discharged into the sewage system,
ELECTRICAL WIRINGS
The unit must be connected
directly to an electrical outlet
or to an independent circuit.
Install a device, main switch,
or electric plug so you can fully
disconnect the device from the power
supply.
WARNING: it is compulsory to connect
the power cables Phase (L) and Neutral
(N) to the respective terminals, do not
to reverse the connections, and observe
the wiring diagram.
WARNING: earthing is obligatory.
To protect the unit against short circuits,
fit a 2A 250V (IG) omnipolar circuit
breaker on the power supply line with
a minimum contact gap of 3mm. The
use of a B-type circuit breakers is
recommended.
For installations with three-phase power
supply, the following precautions should
be considered:
1. In the presence of breakers or
thermomagnetic switches 3P + N, the
triggering current must be at least 170%
of the total load absorbed by the fan
coils for each phase.
2. The section of the neutral wire must be
of a dimension taking into consideration
the operating current equal to 170% of
the total load absorbed by the fan coils
for each phase.

OF

THE

Use H05V-K or N07V-K type cables

with 300/500 V with insulation, routed
through pipes or raceway.
All the cables must be in pipes or raceways
until they are inside the fan coil.
The cables leaving the pipe or raceway
must be positioned in such a way that
they are pulled or twisted and are
anyway protected from outside agents.
Stranded cables can only be used with
cable terminals. Make sure that the
strands of the wires are inserted
properly.
The wiring diagrams are subject to
continuous updates, so it is essential
to use those on the machine as your
reference.
The control panel may not be fitted on a
metal wall unless this is connected to a
grounded outlet permanently.
When using remote control panels,
the relative wiring diagram must be
respected. Before installing the control
panel, read the instructions carefully
and configure the panel if necessary.
VMF System: see the related documentation.
Connect the valve and sensor to the
terminal board, in the positions
indicated in the wiring diagram.
