Program Leader Job Description (STEM Camp)


Program Leaders at the Youth 2 Leaders Education Foundation (Y2LEF) are part-time student staff
members responsible for various duties in the summer residential programs for high school students
facilitated by Y2LEF. The Program Leader is a member of the Y2LEF staff reporting directly to the
summer program coordinator, and ultimately to the Executive Director of Y2LEF.
Program Leaders will comply with all policies, procedures, and conditions set by Y2LEF. Program
leaders are responsible for participants throughout the entire contracted period. All Program Leaders will
alternate break times to allow for all staff to have down time away from the program.
Residential Supervision

Ensure the safety of all program participants throughout the program.

Review all residential and conference service policies set out by UC Santa Barbara, and ensure
that participants are abiding by them.

Maintain accountability for assigned group of students throughout the program.

Ensure that all participants in assigned group are following program agenda. (i.e. wake up time,
meals, lights out, etc.).

Communicate with summer program coordinator and executive director about any concerns or
issues that arise during the program.

Program Development and Facilitation

Work with other Program Leaders to develop activities for participants throughout the program
(i.e. ice breakers, game night, movie night, leadership activities, etc.)

Actively engage in conversations with program participants around the topics of college
readiness, majors, college experience, etc.

Work with summer program coordinator and executive director to plan and execute educational
excursions.

Training, Meetings, and Duty Responsibilities

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, in-service activities, and individual meetings with
supervisor; work as member of program staff.

Assume on-call duty responsibility as scheduled; complete rounds of assigned buildings as


directed.

Assume other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Eligibility

Must be a current undergraduate student.

Pursuing a STEM related degree is not required, but is preferred.

Must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average to be eligible for application.

Must not have a conduct or honor sanction at the university.

Must not hold other employment on or off campus during the employment period.

Must agree to a background check.

Student staff members hired for the summer must attend job orientation meetings conducted the
week prior to the camp.

Compensation

Stipend of $1,700 after the end of the summer program.

All costs associated with the program will be covered by Y2LEF.
