CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

AQUA BOXING AGES 13+

ADULT SWIM WORKOUT AGES 13+


A coached fitness class. Participants must swim a minimum of 1500
yards to participate; workouts generally consist of roughly 1800-2500
yards. Focus for the fall quarter will be stroke refinement and high
intensity endurance.

A new way to work the waves! Improve your cardio endurance, muscle
tone and balance in this low impact yet challenging class. Incorporates
kicks, punches, Tabata drills, and equipment for a great transformation!

INDIVIDUAL ADULT GENTLE EXERCISE AGES 13+


Reserved for gentle lap swimming, water running and water walking
for members and guests 13 and older.

ADAPTIVE FITNESS (ALL LEVELS) AGES 13+


A low intensity workout for rehabilitation or improving range of motion.
Moves are adapted to your individual fitness and movement abilities.

OPEN SWIM/OPEN LANES

ADAPTIVE FITNESS (BEGINNER) AGES 13+

OPEN SWIM ALL AGES

A gentle class focusing on strengthening muscles and improving


range-of-motion for people with arthritis and other special needs.

Reserved for casual and recreation swim. Youth ages 8-12 must pass
a swim test to participate without direct adult supervision and to
enter the deep side of the pool. Youth under age 8 must be directly
supervised by a member at least 16 years old.

DEEP WATER FITNESS AGES 13+


A traditional deep-water fitness class that focuses on deep water
running and building strength through deep water resistance. Good
class for individuals who are looking to eliminate/reduce high impact
exercise.

SHALLOW WATER FITNESS AGES 13+


A shallow-water class that focuses on a low-medium intensity
cardiovascular workout, incorporating strength training exercises.
Class is very social in nature.

AQUA PILATES AGES 13+


A shallow water fitness class designed to use the natural resistance of
water to increase range of motion, strengthen core, and help improve
posture and balance. Offers a medium intensity workout.

AQUA ZUMBA AGES 13+


A shallow water fitness class designed to bring the best of Zumba
on land to the water. This medium-high intensity class incorporates
movements in all directions, challenging (and strengthening) all major
muscle groups and your cardiovascular fitness.

AQUA BOOT CAMP AGES 13+

OPEN LANES ALL AGES


Available for private swim lessons or lap swim, but at least one lane
will be available for lap swim at all times. During times that both
ends of the instructional pool are occupied, one lane may be used for
recreational swim if space permits - at lifeguard's discretion.

PRIVATE LESSONS ALL AGES


Private swim lessons are offered various time throughout the day.
Space is reserved for private swim lessons.

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance for families in need is provided by


funds raised during the Community Support Campaign. To

Slow swimmers must yield to faster swimmers.


Be aware of the space in your lane and
orientation of others. If you are approaching
the wall and another lap swimmer is gaining on
you and swimming at a faster rate than you are,
pause at the wall to allow the faster swimmer(s)
to pass.
When needing to pass an individual, before you
reach the wall, gently tap on that individual's foot
to single you are passing. If your foot is tapped
on, you should wait at the wall, allowing the
swimmer behind you to pass.

At the Y, our swim lessons build skills, confidence and character. We


teach people of all ages and abilities how to be safe in the water
while staying active and having fun. Whether youre splashing around
with us for the first time or improving your stroke technique, youll
feel secure knowing that the Y is here to support you.

Circle swimming is the most efficient and safest way to swim in a lane with other individuals. It also allows
proper and quick regulation of lane speeds.
Note: Lifeguards monitor the lanes and may alter the configuration at any time. If they ask you to move a
lane, it is to better accommodate all swimmers, including yourself.
Choose a lane appropriate for your swimming
pace. Lane speeds may be subject to the
individuals in the pool at any given time.
Swimmers should swim single file and counter
clockwise (down the right side of the lane).
If there are swimmers approaching the wall as
you are preparing to enter, wait until they have
turned and started the next lap before entering
the water, so as not to interrupt their progress.
When swimming, stop only at the wall. Once
stopped, stay in the corner of the lane, preferably
in the right hand corner.

Traditional lap swimming with the structure of speed designed


lanes. When more than two people occupy a lane, circle swim will
be enforced. The circle swim format creates a smoother swimming
experience for pool patrons of all speeds. Lifeguards are readily
available for assistance. Water running and walking are allowed in
lanes marked slow. Youth ages 8-12 must pass the swim test and
lap swim assessment to participate. Only youth 13 and over may
swim laps during adult lap swim.

A high-intensity fitness class offering a mixture of land and water


exercises designed to challenge your body to the max. Workouts often
include plyometric exercises for the water, on-deck core workouts,
deep water running and sprint swimming.

AQUA FITNESS CLASS GUIDELINES


Entry to class is prohibited after the first 10 minutes.
Discretion is left to each individual instructor.
Conversations should be kept to a minimum.
Music and music choice is at the discretion of each individual instructor.
Only the class participants may be in the pool during the aqua class
and all participants should be willing to follow the class format.
Only equipment recommended by the aqua instructor is to be allowed
during the aqua class.
