Reliable

The
tool
is
operated
by
locating
the
lower
end
over
the

external
sh
neck
of
the
tool
to
be
pulled.
The
pulling
tool

dogs
latch
onto
the
shing
neck.
Cam
surfaces
on
the
dogs

force
the
lower
end
of
the
dogs
to
be
pressed
inward,

thereby
ensuring

a
strong
latch.
The
RB
pulling
tool
(R
body
with
a
B
core)
pulls
Otis
B,
C,
and

W
lock
mandrel
assemblies
and
mandrel
assemblies
with
full

relative
motion.

Should
the
pulling
tool
not
be
able
to
retrieve
the
downhole

tool,
it
can
be
released
from
the
shing
neck
so
it
may
be

brought
out
of
the
well.
The
shear
pin
can
be
sheared
with

repeated
severe
jarring.
Once
sheared,
the
cylinder
spring

forces
the
core
to
move
up.
This
releases
the
pulling
tool

dogs.
Once
the
lips
of
the
pulling
tool
dogs
release,
the
ERB
can
be

removed
from
the
hole
and
the
shear
pin
replaced.

Operation
(Latching/Shearing/Redressing)
When
the
ERB
pulling
tool
slides
over
the
shing
neck
that
is

to
be
retrieved,
the
tool-string
weight
compresses
the
dog

Upper Sub

springs
forcing
the
dogs
out
as
they
slide
up
the
beveled

grooves
of
lower
skirt
to
latch
on
sh.

Once
the
inner
ange
of
the
pulling
tool
dogs
pass
the

bottom
ange
of
the
shing
neck
the
dog
spring
tension

returns
dogs
to
the
bottom
of
beveled
grooves
of
the
lower

skirt.

When
the
jarring
impact
has
sheared
the
ERB
pulling
tool,

Sleeve

the
core
spring
tension
pushes
the
core
up,
raising
the
dogs

Core Spring

which
slide
up
the
beveled
dog
grooves
to
the
released

position.

To
re-pin
the
ERB
Pulling
Tool,
rotate
shear
pin
retainer
until

of
the
shear
pin
fall
out.
With
the
use
of
a
core

Retainer

extractor,
to
compress
the
core
spring
the
core
is
pulled

down
in
the
pulling
tool
until
the
shear
pin
holes
line
up.

Redressing
(Re-pinning)

Dog Spring

Sheared
pieces
of
the
pin
are
removed
and
a
new
pin
is

installed.

Washer
Rotating
the
shear
pin
retainer
1/4
turn
completes
the
repinning
of
the
tool.

Precautions
When
servicing
look
for
damaged
or
cracked
parts.

Although
they
look
similar
at
a
glance
2"
and
2
1/2"
nominal

size
pulling
tool
dogs
can
not
be
interchanged.
The
2
1/2"

are
slightly
longer
and
thicker
at
the
bottom
edge,
and
if

used
in
a
2"
pulling
tool
the
dogs
will
not
release
when
the

pin
has
been
sheared.
