Abstract:
This document covers the basic instructions for carrying out the temporary manual test for verifying
that the EDPD function is operating correctly and setting the output power of the RRH to the right
power. This test is to be carried out after the complete assembly and MTP Test of the RRH850 or
RRH2100 and should be the final procedure before the shipment of the unit. Until a new version of
apps code is available to verify this procedure automatically, this manual operation should be
carried out on every RRH850 and RRH2100 before shipment. In addition, a screenshot from the
Agilent MXA Spectrum Analyser should be captured and attached with the complete test results for
the unit for verification from R&D contact (namely Chris Clarke, Richard Bungay, Rich Ellis and
Geoff Patterson) before shipment can be approved.

37

PROCEDURE:

38
39

Starting point is a fully assembled RRH unit of either frequency, connected up fully to a MTP
platform with the latest release of test code.

40
41

1.

Open NI TestStand and log in as Developer. Without issuing the password for this login in
this document, please refer to Burkhard Schermer (NBG).

42

2.

Once in NI TestStand, load the RRH.seq test sequence.

43
44
45
46
47
48
49

3.

Skip the following test in the main sequence:

y TxSRx RF Tests
y Rx RF Tests
y InTDU RF Tests
y Write EBID Data
y Reboot RRH
y InTDU, LNA, Rx Tests Apps Code.

50

4.

Open the Interface Tests sub-sequence.

51
52
53
54

5.

55

6.

Return to main RRH.seq. Open the TxSRx Tests Apps Code sub-sequence.

56
57
58
59

7.

Skip the following tests:

y Tx Pwr Acc OBGC Tests
y Final Signal Quality Tests
y PA Voltage Cal

60

8.

Open the Spectrum Mask EDPD Tests sub-sequence.

61

9.

Skip all tests EXCEPT the Switch to PSA tests.

62

10.

Insert a breakpoint (STOP) in DIRECTLY AFTER this test.

63

11.

Return to the main RRH.seq top level and run the test code (without saving at prompt).

64
65

12.

Run the test as normal, scanning the barcodes for the serial number and CLEI codes. If you
encounter any errors during testing, please click IGNORE and continue. This is normal.

Skip the following tests:

Alarm, Fan, ALD Interface Tests
PSU Alarm Test
Optical TRx EEPROM Read

When the test routine encounters the breakpoint (STOP) perform the following:
y Turn off the master power switch on the RRH.
y Wait 3-4 seconds
y Turn on the master power switch on the RRH
Wait 1 minute.

71
72

14.

While the RRH is rebooting (during the wait 1 minute period above) you may perform the
manual button presses on the Agilent MXA test instrument:

3.

Select Run. Locate the executable file TCI.exe which should be installed under the
C:\Program Files\TCI folder (If not, please speak to Kanin Buapet who has copies of these
files and can provide them).

86
87

4.

With the TCI window open, reduce the lower pane as low as possible to enable full viewing
of the window.

6.

Enter IP Address: 192.168.168.2 and Cell Name: rrh. Click Initialise.

90
91

7.

Wait until the TCI interface establishes the connection with the RRH (see lower pane in
window for confirmation).

92

8.

Click the Test Tab on the left hand side and select RRH Config.

93

9.

Click Next. Enter the baseband type as EX-NORTEL and click Next.

At this point, you will now observe the Transmit spectrum on the MXA Spectrum Analyser. Allow a
few moments for the signal to stabilise. The spectrum should appear as follows:

103
104

Figure: 1

Figure 1: Good EDPD Spectrum for a RRH850

105
106

A good output spectrum for an RRH2100 should appear identical only at 2140MHz.

107

1.

Capture the output spectrum for inclusion in the test report for the unit.

108

2.

Note the Channel Power (for Figure 1, this is the 18.09dBm/5MHz number).

109
110

3.

Open the RRH Calibration file in Wordpad, located in C:\RRH_TestSetCal_850.txt or

C:\RRH_TestSetCal_2100.txt for RRH850 and RRH2100 respectively.

111
112
113

4.

Locate the line (near the top of the file) which starts EAC1 to PSA and record the value
which is the loss/attenuation calibrated out from the EAC of the RRH to the MXA front panel
input connection.

114
115

5.

Perform the calculation: Total Output Power (dBm) = (EAC1 to PSA) + (RRH Channel
Power)

Where EAC1 to PSA = the value recorded from step 34

Where RRH Channel Power = the value recorded in step 32.
The Total Output Power (dBm) should be roughly 45.6dBm +/- 0.15dBm. For the above
example, the channel power was 18.09dBm and the loss from EAC1 to PSA was 27.479 =
45.569dBm = OK.

With the output power verified and the MXA Spectrum Analyser screenshot captured, return
to TCI and click Connection on the menu bar. Then slick Shutdown.
Wait a few moments for TCI to terminate the session. Then return to NI TestStand.
Click the Resume button to continue the test code. Once again, Ignore any further error
messages as this is normal. Once TestStand completes and informs you that the sequence
has completed, OK the message then disconnect the UUT.
Email the results of the Total Output Power (dBm) calculation complete with the output
spectrum capture from the MXA to R&D for final approval before shipment.

Please note that this sequence of instructions is purely temporary and is a last check before units
can be shipped. If in any doubt as to whether the unit is passing or failing, DO NOT SHIP and
contact R&D with the following:
