Example for configure the client.


NOTE:
In the case of a client on Windows, do as follows.
a. Choose Start > Run. Enter regedit and click OK. The Registry Editor
window is displayed.
b. In the navigation tree, choose My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >
SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > Rasman > Parameters. In the
right-hand pane of the window, check whether the key value whose name is
ProhibitIpSec and data type is DWORD exists. If the key value does not
exist, right-click and choose New > DWORD Value. Then name the key
value ProhibitIpSec. If the key value already exists, perform the following
steps.
c. Right-click the value and choose Modify. Then edit the DWORD value. Enter
1 in the Value Data text box and click OK.
d. Restart the PC for the new settings to take effect.
The configuration of the client is described by taking the Windows XP Professional
operating system as an example here.
# Install the L2TP client software on the user's host and connect the client to the
Internet in the dial-up mode.
# Set the name of the VPN host on the client to client1.
# Create the L2TP connection.
e. Choose My Computer > Control Panel > Network Connections and select
Create a new connection under Networks Tasks. Select Next in the
window displayed.
f. Under Network Connection Type, select Connect to the network at my
workplace and click Next.
g. Under Network Connection, select Virtual Private Network connection
and click Next.
h. In the Company text box under Connection, enter the company name or the
name of the VPN server. This example assumes that the name is LNS. Then
click Next.
i. Select Do not dial the initial connection under Public Network and click
Next.
j. In the VPN Server Selection text box, enter the IP address of the LNS and
then click Next. The IP address, that is, 202.38.161.1 in this case, is the IP
address of the interface that connects the Eudemon to the Internet. Click
Next.
k. As required, select Anyone's use or My use only in Connection
Availability, and click Next.

l. Select Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop and then click


Finish.
m. Enter the VPN user name and password, and then click Properties in the
dialog box displayed, as shown in Figure 2.

n. Click the Options tab and set the parameters, as shown in Figure 3.

o. Click the Security tab. Select Advanced (custom settings). Click Settings,
as shown in Figure 4.

p. Set Advanced Security Parameters and click OK, as shown in Figure 5.

q. Click the Networking tab and set the parameters, as shown in Figure 6.

r. Click OK. The Connect LNS window is displayed, as shown in Figure 2.


Click OK to initiate a L2TP connection.
